Couldn't it have just gone under like a tunnel instead of right on the runway? I mean, you've always got that one or two jackasses who don't take subtle hints.

Edit: Oh wow, is that those Railroad crossing things that come down? This just got alot more difficult to comprehend :odd:

Gibraltar isn't the biggest place in the world, looking from the aerials there may be some residential areas on one side which may make tunnels a bit difficult, in any case it's only a minor inconvenience, the airport isn't that busy. Something like 7 flights a day. I know they've reclaimed some land from the sea to allow for extension of the runway. The dispute over Gibraltar with Spain has probably also halted progress on making it safer.

However, bit of research says a tunnel is due to be open soon, although the road will remain in place for emergencies and the like.
