How is a category 1 an extreme threat? I guess the building codes up there must suck.
Perhaps, but the category of a storm means nothing but its wind speed. A tropical storm can pelt it down more than a Hurricane can.
Here in Jamaica, because we not only have the constant threat of urricanes, and a high likelihood of an earthquake, the building quality here is on average, pretty good. As far as I know, most houses are made from solid concrete, while quite a lot of houses in the US are, if i'm not mistaken, wooden. So, while a Category 1 storm may not cause too much damage to homes here, it may give some places hell up there.
