Time to talk about this weird way to fix an Xbox 360, which has the Red Ring of death.

That's halarious!
Makes sense though... I mean, someone was bound to smack the thing a few times after getting the red lights. :ouch: :ouch:
Btw, I watched a few of the other videos and was suprised... Hair-dryers and beach towels were used to fix the problem in other videos (but not by hitting the box with said items).

I got the 3 red lights (overheating) last summer when it was somewhat hot in our house, about 3 or 4 times, always when playing the same game (FIFA World Cup 2006).

The way I fixed it was I hold the power supply suspended on 2 stacks of audio casettes, rather than letting it stay on the wooden floor. Haven't had the 3 red rings since (either with FIFA or any other game), and it's been about a year since.

It sort of makes sense, but I'd like to know if it's a long-term fix. Since the actual cause is long-term heat breaking solder joints, it seems that he's just knocking it back into place. As the solder degrades further, does he have to hit it harder? And how does this affect the DVD lens? Are there now more or less scratches on the discs?

Maybe I'll wait until after Christmas to see how the Elite does....

Nothing new to me. When my Wii was pulled off of its shelf by my dog walking into the Gamecube controller cord, causing it to hit the floor, it wouldn't read discs until I gave it a good smack. It's been perfectly fine ever since.

Meanwhile, the PS2 in my room here has gotten so bad that every time I switch discs, I have to take out the disc, pick up the side of the PS2 that has the disc drive, slam it against the surface it sits on, put in the new disc, and hit the reset button. Just to avoid getting a DRE.

Then there are the computer speakers that I use for my consoles (TV has a crappy mono speaker). The left one likes to cut out and crackle a bit, but a good smack to the top of it brings it back.

If the red ring of death can be fixed as shown in this video, that means I won't have to worry if I invest the money in getting a 360. Awesome.

This reminds me of the original Nintendo. Usually if you gave it a few good slaps, it would then work. That definitely brings back some memories.

Only problem is, I would never feel comfortable beating a 360 like that. Just does not seem like an overly smart thing to do and something a consumer should not have to deal with to get an electronic device to work. But hey, if it works, more power to those guys.

Yep. Smacking always works.. My dad brought home a 'not-working' GameCube one day from work, and after I found it and discovered it wouldn't work, I slammed it in frustration and it functioned perfectly for the rest of its stay with me.

It's odd how all these people have the red rings of death when i've had my 360 since last christmas and i've played with it on the carpet (Horizontally) and the power supply is on the carpet too, never had a single problem with it althought i've had a bad experience of picking it up while it's running (which was a stupid idea anyhow) I picked it up and ever so slightly tilted it on accident and I heard this terrible grind sound (CD scratching on something) and it gave my GH2 disc a pretty nasty scratch. But of course... *knocks on wood*

Wow, really, that scratched the disc? My PSOne and GameCube have been tripped over. As well as my friend's PS2 Slim--and pulled more than 6 inches horizontally off shelves 3 inches high, and nothing happened.

 thats really funny. Can't remember when was the last time i did that....another good way of repairing a console is with some elbow grease (literally) But i guess if you don't have the money to buy a new one or you can't repair it by yourself, you could always do these kind of stuff.America should really have a modding community like we have here in Malaysia.(especially if you were in Sungei Wang.Home of console modding!)(actually i don't really know a lot about console modding in the US.Supposed to be illegal there is it?)

Another way of keeping your consoles safe, put your console near an air conditioner or fan.Keeps the console nice and cool

Yeah, the 360's disc drive is ridiculously sensitive to tilting.

lmfao.gif

Could that not have been a problem wit ha connection (like the AV lead) and the hefty whack put it right? Well, whatever. But I certainly would'nt want to keep on whacking something to make it work. Back to Microsoft it would go.

Funny. My TV does the exact same thing. Doesn't work when I plug in the 360 to the AV ports, but then I utilize my cable box as a battering ram and it works fine.

Wow, small world. My brother did the exact same thing, and there's a ring around the edge of his GH2 disc too...

Of course it happened to me with the original Xbox and my brand new Halo 2, only I didn't tilt it...

Nice 97 word sentence ;). Anyway Why is it odd that M$ screwed up it's system's design to the tune of a 1billion replacement plan? MY 360 works fine because it just not used. My friend's 360 got the RRoD and he hasn't received his back form M$ and they wont reimburse him for his 2 months of XBL. My disc tray doesn't open all the way sometimes. I've had my 360 longer than my friend.
