A little something I threw together today. I ordered this shifter used some time ago for this purpose and finally found the time today to get things put together. Anyone who has used both shifters would agree that the Logitech one is definitely an upgrade over the Fantec one... My driving isn't amazing here, sorry. I was in a bit of a rush.

I wanted to post this to gauge interest in something like this... Enjoy:
(This is through the Fantec PWTS wheel)

I like and want this very much.

Are you selling adapters, or sharing how with the community?

I'm running a CSR Elite.

I might make and sell them if there is enough interest...

While it's not out of the question for someone to DIY this thing, it's not as simple as connecting some wires either. ;) The breadboard in the video, just in front of the shifter, actually contains what's accomplishing this. (just the right side near the shifter, the rest is other "stuff")

One thing to note: The buttons are non-functional when connected to the Fanatec wheel directly. This is because the wheel only accepts gear positions as input and nothing else.

As long as all the buttons on the wheel still function, and there's no risk to frying my $500 wheel, I would definitely be interested. If you decide to move forward, PM me.

I grown tired of waiting for the Clubsport shifter, and miss my G27 H gate.

Oh yes, the wheel functions just fine as do the buttons. :) The circuit basically just outputs what the Fanatec shifter normally would. No frying involved. :)

I'll let you know.

LOL did you say the Logitech G27 shifter is an upgrade from the Fanatec one? That is pretty funny. Even the original Fanatec shifters are beter, the CSR shifters with the metal knob destroy my G27 shifter which barely feels like a shifter at all. To each their own but I think thats pretty nuts.

I will give you kudos though for the adaptor, you'll probably sell a ton of these. :)

It's probably a matter of personal preference. The g27 shifter mechanism is considerably stronger with a more gated feel. It is however a bit more loose. This is because the Fanatec shifter is simply two rotating pieces of plastic sandwiched between pieces of foam. That is why the Fanatec feels so much stiffer. It's also why it feels so difficult to move at it's extremes. (reverse for instance)

Honestly, I cringe whenever I shift my Fanatec shifter too hard. I've seen what's inside them and have fixed a handful that look as though they were soldered by a 3 year old.

The one thing I would improve on the G27 shifter is the stiffness. However, the general feel of it is just better in my opinion, despite this. Like you said, to each their own. :)

I prefer the G27 shifter also.
Although Borg could be a lot better. I do feel as though I know exactly which gear I'm selecting(especially reverse).

I'm on the old chopsticks though and that adds to the problems lol.

So, when are your adapters going on sale ;-)

I just received a Fanatec CSR Elite and pedals and will check it out later.
I will deeply miss shifting an H-shifter though.

I am definitely interested in an adapter, to wire my G25 H-shifter to the Fanatec wheel until a better solution comes up.

Sort the buttons out and you're on to a winner. I bet you could make up a HID interface that'll work with both PS3 and PC via a USB connection to enable the buttons as a separate device. That would be very cheap to do with a PIC but would enable you to inflate the price...!

I went back and connected my G27 shifter and I don't feel the "gated" feel at all. To me, and this is just me, I can barely tell which gear I'm in. The distance between the gates is tiny. I may just for shats and giggles do some of the online mods to the G27 just to see if I can replace some of the parts with machined metal. Might be cool.

I have all of it sorted out, buttons etc. :) USB HID firmware, the lot. I just have to design the boards and send off for them.

When it's done it can be connected via USB to a PC (at which point all of the buttons will be available) or directly to any Fanatec wheel.

As for when, all I can say is "soon." I'm hoping less than a month, I've got quite a bit on my plate at the moment.

As for price, it will not be inflated... Whatever you are thinking, it's probably WAY too high. ;) (within reason of course)

Keep your eyes peeled, this isn't the only thing I'm releasing in the near future. I'll also probably need to sign up as premium so I can post stuff here...

I just bought you a Premium lifetime membership Basher.

I'm looking forward to your upcoming products. Thanks for putting forth the effort in making our sim racing much more enjoyable with compatible hardware!

Say what??!?!?! I don't know what to say... I'm seriously speechless. I am forever in your gratitude XXI. I'll be sending you a PM shortly.

Great news mrbasher and that is very generous XXI - nice gesture!

I have been driving the first laps with the CSRE and Forza 4, and what can I say - the CSRE without H-shifter is a much worse solution, than any cranky old G25 with H-Shifter!

I am completely with that big British guy here, controversial, as he might be - flappy pedal shifters suck.

What are you going to do, when the rear steps out with a flappy car? You just loose it - frustrating!

I am very much looking forward to mrbasher's adaptor and will hook a modified G25 H-shifter up the CSRE, to get back that feeling.

well done mrbasher.....please please please pm me when you start selling these adapters :):)

Mrbasher, being premium allows you to sell personal items, but I'm not sure that it lets you be a Vendor. I'd recommend sending a PM to Jordan to ask permission to offer any products for sale here.

Thanks Eric. I will be sure to PM Jordan and see what is actually involved in with regard to promoting my products on the forums.

Jonnysins,

Thanks :) I will be sure to PM you. This should be ready pretty soon. I have a few projects I am working on at the moment, one of which many folks have been wanting for some time now. This isn't too far out. :) I have a "day job" so most of this is done in my free time.

That's nice to hear! Take care Mr.Basher - I am pretty sure, many here are eager, to get hands on your solution to adapt a G25/G27 H-shifter to the Fanatec wheels.

The Logitech H-shifter is a great base, to modify, and I am looking forward, to built this into a cockpit with your adapter, finally being able to race those under-powered, souped up Japanese front wheel drive compact cars against Porsches and Corvettes in Forza 4 - just love racing those.

I have no love for pedal shifters, but lots of footwork and manual boxes - the more they feel real, the better! If even the buttons are working, that would be a fantastic bonus!

I agree, I love banging through the gears in an old car, well... any car really :D

The buttons will not work when plugged into the Fanatec wheel. It's not just possible since the shifter inputs on the wheel only recognize what the Fanatec shifters are capable of. (which doesn't include buttons) However, sequential mode will work fine. ;) Also, when using it on the PC via USB, the buttons will certainly work.

Nice about the sequential shifter working - so, the good old G25 H-shifter can be switched between sequential and H-shifter mid game and works respectively?

That would be really nice!

Could you test the AutoClutch feature of the Fanatec wheels and confirm, if it works with the adapted G25 H-shifter in sequential mode, as it does with the wheels flappy shifters?

(I use the AutoClutch feature on the wheel for the cars, which actually have a sequential box and in reality no necessary clutch - unfortunately Forza 4 doesn't simulate this correctly).

Yep! In fact, a kind friend over at iRacing donated his old G25 shifter to me so I could make sure it worked with this. :) While the G25 shifter in sequential mode will automatically make the Fanatec wheel think a sequential shifter is connected, the G27 doesn't have anything on it capable of doing this. Because of this I will probably provide a switch on the device so that people using the rubber band or spring mod on their G27 shifter can used it as such. (Where it makes the G27 act like a sequential)

I will definitely test it. However, if when using the Fanatec sequential the autoclutch works, it would work with this. Since as far as the Fanatec is concerned, it's sequential shifter is connected. I'll check it though just to be sure.

Nice! It's getting better and better!

Mr. Basher,
Just wondering how close you are to selling this wonderful adapter?

Approximately 3 weeks is my best estimate, barring any unforeseen complications. That is almost entirely due to shipping, etc. The board design, code, etc. is already completed.

I have some important obligations I must attend to in the meantime. :)

That is GREAT news!:)
Consider 1 (any many, many more I'm sure) SOLD!

My biggest issue with the CSR h-gate shifter, was the fact that the knob was made too heavy for such a weak base. This caused mine to start missing shifts after about 4 months of use. I also had the shifter hard mounted to take away any extra strain during the shifting process. The Porsche Shifters were built properly to last more than the CSR, imho.

I now have the TH8RS and love it. Basher, make an interface one type card for that shifter (For Xbox uses), & you'll have a gold mine on your hands. The person who was making them stopped, and demand is up for them with no date in sight for the CSS.....

Wow, that's really a nice mod with a lot of effort.
Personally I prefer my TH8, but kudos for the mod ;)

All I'm going to say right now is... Good things come to those who wait. :p I don't post about everything I am working on, at least not publicly.
