G29 Setup

I play on PS4 with a G29.

I don’t like the setup, I have to turn the wheel way too much for my taste.

Looked for a tool on PS4 and found nothing.
Connected the wheel to my Mac, downloaded the Logitech tool and configured it there. Very little options there, quite disappointing.

Reconnected it to the PS4: Feels like no change at all. I still have to turn the wheel 180 degrees to make a 90 degree turn (currently playing Interlagos and all), which I find rediculous and I‘ll never gonna get good times twisting my arms.

I thought I‘d buy a good product for 200 €, but I have to say I‘m quite disappointed with how little I can make the wheel fit my playing style.

Also, there is a good centimeter of clearance to the left and the right when the wheel is centered, like until I feel resistance when turning it. Is that normal?

Is there another way to fit the wheel or should I just get another wheel, and if so what would be recommended?

No you don't, sounds like you are going too fast and trying to counter it by just turning the wheel more, which isn't how it works

I used a G29 from launch and the only time you should ever be turning that much is through an extremely slow hairpin (and even then that's a stretch)

Yeah, the whole „go slow to be quicker“ is completely beyond me. I watch those vids on YouTube and the guy is like „break just before the 50 meter marker“ and if I brake anything later than at the 100 I overshoot into the barriers...

I just want to see someone drive e.g. Interlagos live with me sitting next to him to understand how they do that, I‘d even PAY for it!

Anyone in the Köln/Bonn/Koblenz area willing to show me how to drive a 1:31 on Interlagos? I can’t get much under 1:35 for the life of me... really frustrating!

So, ok, I am willing to accept that it‘s probably my crappy driving... *sigh*

If you're talking about turn 1 then yeah, it's likely that you'll need the wheel over 90° to make the turn.

Check out this real world video where you can clearly see the driver having to turn the wheel 160° - 170° to make turn 1.

What you need to remember is that GTS is intended to be a sim, not an arcade racer, so it will attempt to replicate real world steering inputs.

G29 is a great wheel for the price. Try changing the controller sensitivity to tune for different cars. There are a few threads that talk about the FFB Torque and FFB Sensitivity for the G29, and a lot of posters advocate for low settings. I went along with that for a while, but after 1.24, I'm wondering if higher may not be better. I have been running FFB T at 3 and FFB S at 2. I ran the Gr.4 events at Nürburgring GP last night (Imprezza- that track seems a little slick, and AWD seems to be the meta...) and found that my sense of control AND my lap times improved with FFB T at 5 and FFS S at 10(!) I'm not saying I dropped 5 seconds, but I got a LITTLE faster and A LOT more consistent. Best Q was mid 2:08, but I was able to push much harder and maintain my lines better. I also feel like I can get faster with those settings. I am a pretty casual player; 3-4 days per week, but I've been a simracer for almost 20 years, so I know my way around most every circuit. (Anyone else start out on Sports Car GT or GP Legends?)

What abou GTR2 and it,s Power and Glory Mod??

Even better... dude!

Did you know that GTR3 is announced to be out until the end of the year??

I was a total GTR junkie, from the original mod through GTR2. What a great game- especially the SOUNDS! Marcos LM600? Lister Storm? Epic...

Does it clamp securely to your desk/table/whatever? Those clamps do have a little play in them before you tighten them down. I bought mine from Amazon, and the first one was completely haywire- clearly defective. Amazon had a replacement at my door the next day, and only charges for it if you don't return the bad one. (I had a G25 for 15+ years, so I was not worried about the quality of the product- I am certain it was a manufacturing defect as opposed to poor quality.)
Mirror_Man- I've been a console peasant for a few years now. I work in IT, and I just got tired of f-ing around with PC stuff on my own time. With the PS3/PS4 I'm in-game and driving pretty quickly. GTR3 looks like it will release on PS4, so I'm in...

That’s normal. When you screw the clamp down onto a table, press the knob down & twist to lock it.

It's fine dude.. Once you tighten it, it will work no issues. The clip is a hook, you can remove the hook part and make it flat if you want to fit it on a flat surface.
Ok. Its just that the second one was too shaky compared to the other one which is more contact so i thought it isnt right.

I am also not buying into the "master race". Already had enough f-ing with PC's in my younger years. Now I am all plug & play. Glad to find someone who has the same thoughts!

My suggestion to you is watch the replays of the top 10 times. Turn on all the info and watch the throttle and brake inputs they use. Combine that with what the car is doing on screen and you should get a good idea of how to drive the track. If you use the behind the car view (which I do) you'll be able to clearly see where the car is turning in on corners and also where you can take advantage of track limits. I've found this to really help me improve my times. If you're unfamiliar with this option leave a message and I'll explain in more detail. BTW, I use a G29 and use the default settings which I believe is 5, 5.

Any update on how it is going at the moment? I'm a first time wheel user (G29) and am kind of frustrated that I am 2 seconds slower than with a controller in GT Sport. I blamed the wheel first but then tried Assetto Corsa and was much faster in that game with a controller with only minutes of practice. I really wan't to get better at using the wheel because I like the online racing in GT Sport.

Meanwhile, I have a fully blown Fanatec setup with inverted V3 Clubsport Pedals, an aluminum rig, the works...

Was tired of the plasticy China stuff

Send a video of you turning the wheel and show us teh red dot that shows steering input. If you turn the wheel and the dot stops at the end thats all the input the game will allow anyways.

If you expect to suddenly be quicker with a wheel than a controller, you haven't understood the point of a wheel. It is for immersion, not to suddenly gain time. It is natural to be slower at first, and it is even natural to be of a similar pace to a controller once you've put some more time in.

Give it some time, practice more, and you will soon match your controller laptimes. It is just that you are used to maximising your ability on a controller, and it takes time to adapt. Do some driving school, circuit experience or mission challenges again and keep improving.

I never expected to be faster on a controller right away and was suprised I came within 2 seconds of my fastest controller time on interlagos the first time ever playing with a wheel. I was just wondering if anybody had any tips on how to go faster. I wil try the circuit experience mission challenges:)

Try turning up the "tire Squeel" that way you can hear if you are turning/pushing the car to much.

Bumper cam has improved my times a lot on a wheel. I used hood cam on the ds4 and expected that to be good on a wheel to but it's much easier to catch your car in bumber cam.
