Say what?
So what are your arguments for playing games on consoles?

It's cheaper than upgrading a PC for gaming over the years. Or so that's what I think.

And as for kids...I see it as more for teens to adults due to the huge number games rated between T and M.

Though a lot kids do play GTA IV.

I should stop editing.

My excuse is that I am a kid :D.

I like that to be able to play a game all you have to make sure is that it had PS3 written on it. You dont have to upgrade any hardware and you arent left outside the store after you have bought a game wondering whether your computer can run it.

Who decided it was only for kids? With many popular games such as GTA being given an 18+ rated title (in the UK), clearly it's not just kids buying them. Kind of a stupid thread title if you ask me. Sure, many people under 18 play GTA, but the point is if the government and legal bodies thought games consoles were only for kids, they wouldn't allow games not for kids to be released full stop.

The statement in the OP, and the thread title appear in no way linked, where has the 'only for kids' thing come from? And the reasons for console gaming and certainly nothing to do with age. Consoles are quicker, easier, certainly cheaper and easier to maintain and update without losing the core experience from many titles. Sure PCs can be more powerful, but the money involved just isn't justified unless you have plenty to spare, or really love PC gaming specifically.

The question was more of a like if games are only for kids or also for adults (obvious they are) and what are your (adults) arguments for still playing games (neither console or PC).

Because games are fun, and a hell of alot cheaper then real life. Sure I'm only 19, but my stepdad loves a bit of GT and my mother plays plenty of little puzzle games on DS, iPhone and her laptop. Nothing extensive, just good ol' simple gaming, load up and play, she's not playing things like COD, just very simple, often point and click puzzle games or card games. There's a game for everyone, and consoles make them easy to get hold of quality titles they're looking for without breaking the bank, similarly, in the case of my mother, there's plenty of free or very cheap puzzle games which she can run on her normal laptop with no hassle, she doesn't need them all running in HD at 60fps will full graphics. Games allow you to do things you can't do in real life, or challenge you mentally and plenty of things in between. You can't go jack peoples cars and shoot people like in GTA, and you can't get a quick easy mental challenge provided by a simple puzzle without just using your various computer or console.

It's also worth noting, that they have a Wii between them, and my stepdad is looking into buying a PS3 now I've left home for uni, almost solely for GT5, plus he could use my G25 which I left at home.

But actually the point is there's still a lot of older (40+ mostly) people that look at games as a childish thing, and don't realise how things are nowadays.

Hell most gamers nowadays are already in the 18-25 or a bit older and getting older, because those where the ones that where kids when the games started to show up and were actually mostly for kids, the gamers didn't changed just got older (and started appearing newer gamers that are more kids or older people that gave in to this kind of games).

Nowadays the variety is to big to put any range of age out and actually most of the games are targeting 16-30 year old people, since not only the gamers are getting older and more mature, but also the games that are being released (still those aren't really just getting more mature but also getting to a wither range as already mentioned).

So there's not really a reason to play games nowadays regardless of your age other then because they are fun, and a not extremely expensive way to have fun (it's getting more expensive, but still cheaper them most other entertainment options).

I play on game consoles because I always have and find it much simpler and easier to use and of course GT5 is part of the reason I got a PS3. Also there's always so many good games on consoles and probably always will be and you don't have to do no upgrading which is good for me because I know nothing about PC's and how to install new components so I will always be a console gamer apart from the odd pc game that attracts my attention.

Here's how I see it.

The PS3 racing games do two things for me.

First of all, they are my grown up substitute for matchbox cars. The graphics are the same (:p), and while I can't touch them, I can hear them, drive them, and take them somewhere that depicts a racetrack more than my bed - plus its more comfortable than kneeling on the floor - so its more suitable for a grown up.

The other way I see it is me being able to race people not in real life. With the advances of technology, some PC games are extremly close to real world physics. These games (both on PC and PS3) allow people like me to join a racing group and show my (however small) racing prowess.

These games (most games, actually - not just racing games) spell fun for me. I don't know why, but when I'm in the mood for some GT, nothing satisfies except GT. I reckon if its fun, you shouldn't stop doing it. People not having fun on purpose because they are in the public eye make the world a slightly drearier place I think. People should have fun and be happy. For me, PS3 does that.

I play console games, because i don't feel like frigging with upgrading my PC every year.

I am a kid. I play PS3 because of Gran Turismo! Also it's cheaper and better than PC (for the same price). Each time I buy a PC game I'm always anxious when it installs because I'm not sure if it will run to its full potentail.

I'm a kid at heart so I play GT on PS, because I'd rather be driving than working on my car or getting a speeding ticket and no my PS3 isn't only for kids. It's got blueray so it's for everybody who wants to watch Hi-Def movies too.

As mentioned by people previously,
1. its cheaper
2. less technical knowledge needed (hardware/software upgrades)
3. Im a teenager=likes to play games

Plus console games are more mainstream these days, hence, greater availablity and bigger titles than on the PC platform.

Also, i can't stand playing with mouse/keyboard combo. just doesn't work for me.

Few reasons why Console games work for me:
1. I can keep the same technology for 5 years and it will still play all my games without a problem. You may be able to buy a pc that can still play the games 5 years on. But the PC will cost you a bucket load and will struggle to run newer stuff.
2. Every time I try play a game on PC it will only last me a day or 2 then I give up on the game. I simply don't enjoy games on PC.
3. Plug and Play. Put disk in and play. No need for choosing display settings etc. to suit your PC since all consoles are the same.

I, an 18 year old, play games because they are 'fun' and pass time...
Plus, I remember the PS1 days where my Father and Mother would play with me - taking turns on Colin McRae Rally, WWF, and Gran Turismo. So video games can be used for bonding with your kids as an adult.

My 68 year old Grandfather even has a go on GT PSP, and he loves it! He crashes a lot in most cars, yet if he's driving a classic muscle car (like a Dodge Charger etc...) he's actually really good at it!

Ditto. Games consoles no longer exit, we have entertainment centres now!
