Well I got my first taste of the game today. I had some friends over to play poker; but before any of that happened, one of my friends came over earlier and we were playing some co-op on GRAW. That was pretty fun. Well then two more friends came over and gave the first friend a Christmas present and it just so happened it was GOW. So we played some poker and GOW. Well I have to say that my initial impression of GOW is that it is a pretty dang good game and will be a blast to play on co-op. The friend that got the game is supposed to be coming over later today so we can play some more of it. Definitely looking forward to it. 👍

Congrats! It really is a great game and it makes sense to win all of those awards. The co-op is definetly the highlight of this game. Play through on casual then hardcore then insane and you will get at least 30+ hours of fun. The multiplayer isnt all that great but the drop in drop out co-op is very fun! 👍

The co-op on GRAW is absolutely wonderful. I really need to download Chapter 2 so I can play through it also.

Well after we finished playing poker last night, two of my friends who had lost out pretty quickly were playing co-op on GOW and after I lost out . . . it was a terrible night of poker for me, no cards came my way . . . I watched them play it and it was pretty cool to just watch. Looking forward to playing it more.

Well, first off, sorry for the double post.

Just got done playing some GOW with a friend over at my house. Finished Act 1 on Hardcore, as we just skipped Casual and went straight to Hardcore. I have to say the game is a blast and definitely has kept me at the edge of my seat while playing.

We have gotten all the way through Act 1. That was cake. I would say we are probably half-way through or farther through Act 2. I am somewhat in a bad case right now because I have no rifle ammo, have little ammo for my sidearm, and a shotgun as my third weapon.

I have still yet to get the grenade throwing down on the game. It is probably the only thing I have not throroughly gotten the hang of. I have quickly picked up the cover system and learning the more and more how in-depth it is.

Great fun this game is and looking forward to playing it more. The game is absolute blast on co-op and I cannot imagine the single player beginning to even touch it. The other guys on your team have a nice habit of running up into everything and getting in the way of any possible shot on the enemy. This would definitely be a problem playing by yourself and the only real problem I have had with the game so far.

I had a funny moment in which one of the Locust knew I was trying to chainsaw him and he kept running and running away from me. It was kinda comical and surprised me that the AI would be smart enough to run away from the chainsaw.

Just got this game today - first off, it really looks incredible. Playing it on 50" in HD is intense. It's presentation is virtually flawless. The sound is awesome, too - the way it swells and intensifies during a battle makes you really feel like you're in the middle of a war movie. I haven't played too much of it yet, but so far it's met my expectations, which were pretty high.

One thing I'm not a fan of, though, is the fact that split-screen play is top and bottom rather than side by side. It makes it hard to see what's going on. Is there a way to make side-by-side possible?

Did this game get GOTY yet? I had a thread title that said "GOW will probably be GOTY" but I think it got merged into this thread. RSV is right up there too in my opinion.

I just got the game 2 days ago, what can I say, its flawless. The graphics are amazing, the maps have so much detail in, the weapons are awesome, and the chainsaw...

I'm almost done with single player, and yes it is a little short, but very fun. More fun than halo. This game rocks.

Finally got round to buying GoW and playing it. And it is mightily impressive.
Its visuals are excellent, or the more so because it seems to run at a near faultless frame rate. 60fps? Anyway, very, very smooth.
Most of this is due to good design and a few tricks. Dead Locust "melt" away once dead (there's only a very finite number of enemies etc allowed on screen at any one time, 7 or 8 at a guess). Draw distance is generally fairly short and only occasionally did I notice any pop-up. But the level of detail was impressive as was the animations too.
The audio was excellent. I've never heard a Xbox 360 game use the low frequency channel as much, or as loud as this game. The "booms" really boomed and the 5.1 was well used.
As for the gameplay. Well, I started on Casual and finished single player in around 11 hours over two days. But 2 of those hours was finishing off Raam at the end (what a git!). So now I've started on Hardcore and it's a lot tougher.
I do like how the game plays, using cover etc, finding the right time to pop up and take a few shots. On single player on Hardcore it's mighty tough as the enemy AI always go for you. Your "squad" usually get bumped off quite quickly. Still, it's a fair challenge.
I like the reloading and I got the two Achievements quite quickly. But there's not too much new to the gameplay. But that's fine as it's great fun. And that's most important. Originality is great, but not if it's no fun to play.
All in all a great game and a showcase for the 360 and the Unreal 3 engine. Now how will Mass Effect compare? Or Unreal Tournament 2007? Guess we'll wait and see.

Did you play as a co-op or by yourself? This game was truly designed to be played with a friend via xboxlive. You will really want a friend once you start playing insane. If you ever want a partner just let me know in advance. I always enjoy playing GOW with people. The drop in drop out co-op is flawless.

I may have mentioned it in here - or elsewhere - but the only thing I dislike about playing any mode through Xbox Live is there's about a second delay whenever you shoot. I'm not sure whether this due to our connection or the speed of the response from Xbox Live's servers, but it is quite annoying. In Co-Op it is even more annoying, especially through harder parts of the game. Luckily, playing split-screen on the same console doesn't have this issue.

I have never noticed that and I have played co-op with many people between RSV, GOW, PDZ and any other games. I have never noticed lag in co-op. The only game I notice anything major like this is in COD3 once in a while. But that game has more online problems than I even want to talk about in here. I have noticed a lot of UK players seem to have more online problems than US. Not sure what the problem is but if I play with UK players then I do see lag once in a while like in TDU. I havent played co-op with anyone from the UK.

If you didnt know, 2 new maps were released yesterday. Both free.
Oh yeah I was going to mention that. I downloaded the maps but havent played them yet. As I have said many times the 4 vs 4 multiplayer in GOW gets boring quick so the new maps really havent had me excited. However a couple of my friends just bought 360s and I have been going back throught the co-op campaign with them again. I dont think the co-op campaign ever gets old. Now I have 29/30 cog tags too. Still not sure where the other tag is at. We also played some vs multiplayer together and its more fun with friends but still gets old quick. I still prefer the co-op campaign. I will check the new maps out this weekend.
Here is a video of one of the new maps.
1. New Map Pack intro (17 mb)
2. Raven Down gameplay (19mb)
3. Old Bones gamepaly (20mb)

I absolutely HATE the patch...wtf!? The tagging issue wasn't solved, and now I can't see who's hosting the games...I dunno, I dont' like it.

I heard that they reduced distance you can grenade tag from. Have you tried the new maps?

Wait, didn't you sell your 360?

I sold my 360 to my roommate, and he plays gears. They did reduce the distance you can tag from, but they also increased the stun time, so it's still really difficult to try to fight back after a tag. Not to mention there's still rampant desperation tags going on.

I'm glad they fixed the mic issues though.

I have not been playing a whole lot of the 360 lately with classes having started back up a couple of weeks ago. Having said that, I have been busy playing RSV when I have been playing the 360. I really need to take the time and play GoW some.

Well I finished up the game tonight. Played the whole game co-op on hardcore with a friend off and on since around Christmas. I figured since I had started the game on co-op I might as well finish it that way. Now all I need to do is play through Insane as Dom.

I got my first multiplayer achievement a few days ago, and it wasnt the chainsaw either (HATE the chainsaw, no skill)
Hehe, that was my first achievement. :) I agree though - there is certainly no skill required, but I can never skip the opportunity to chainsaw someone without them seeing me. I'm close to the grenade tag achievement now as well.

I still find it amazing now people become so good. At least I'm improving slowly...

The delay with the shots I was on about earlier in this thread is really starting to annoy me now. It's about .3 of a second delay sometimes, and it can be really critical when trying to kill someone rolling around. Sometimes it's worse and sometimes it's minimal.

I've watched a few videos where some people are the same, but the one I watched of a really good guy didn't have it at all. It must just be poor connection or something... :( I'll just have to develop a new way of killing people by sneaking up on them. I'm only really good at tagging and chainsawing...
