I would just have the caliper inspected, if the boot was loose, missing, or cracked. Have it re-lubed and the little boot replaced (it shouldn't cost much). Worst case scenario is that the brakes start to get uneven wear over time.

Excessively uneven wear might be covered by the basic warranty of the car. But if it's done negligently (and thus, someone has to pay for it), then its best to get that taken care of soon.

I would imagine that the brake action gets more sudden (leading to skids), or the brakes overheat and warp with more friction acting from the caliper to the disc, with less lubricant.

Rubber boot on the piston, or rubber boot on the pin the caliper itself can slide on?

The pin the caliper slides on.

There's no grease in the piston, just brake fluid. The pin it can slide on is there because the piston is on one side of the caliper, and to accomodate wear on both pads, the caliper has to move. If that movement is restricted, one pad may wear significantly faster than the other, but actual brake function should not be impaired.

Thanks. Interesting ideas.

Basically what happened is that I didn't put the bolt that goes into the end of the caliper pin on with enough force and it fell off during driving. I didn't notice for a few days, got a replacement bolt and put it on. Now the brakes are giving me a bit of vibration under light braking and the only thing I can imagine that would cause that would be that the lubricant dried out.

I'm going to re-lubricate it when I get a chance (and figure out what grease to put on it), but in the meantime I was wondering what damage it may have caused.

Based on rust patterns on the rotor, I'd say that the outer pad is indeed working at this point.

Both pads will be working, there's no way they can't, but it's the release of the brakes that's affected if caliper motion is restricted. If it's not free to slide, it may keep more pressure on one side than the other, and that pad wears faster. Disc brakes actually never remove the pads from contact when you release the brakes, they just remove pressure.

But vibration is a different issue. If you're talking about a pulsing that slows down as the car slows, then you have an uneven rotor surface, the rotor is warped, or thicker in some places than others. That causes the braking action to increase and decrease as the thick areas go through the caliper. Rotors need to be machined flat ("turned.")

I have a patch of skin on my left arm that is distinctly textured; it is roughly in the form of gooseflesh. It is isolated from any similar patch, and is irregularly shaped. Is this something to be concerned about?

How big is it? If it's not symmetrical and you haven't had it since birth (although some things you have when born need to be removed later in life, like a big brown mole I had on my leg. They wouldn't let me look at my leg being cut open and used a pillow to block my vision. ), then I would definitely say get it looked at. Better safe than sorry, never hurts to ask.

It's only been around for about a month or so...the colour is the same. I don't think it's a rash, but it itches occasionally. It's about the size of a quarter.

Sounds like possibly a spot of eczema.

Yeah, probably just a localized itch/chafe. Multiply that by about 50, and then you can join the Eczema Club. ;) (Not that you’d want to… I’ve been fighting a really bad bout for the past two months, and it’s just destroying my skin…)

I don't understand the "I have a patch" and "isolated from any similar patch."

Not that it matters, I just thought I'd ask.

Personally, I think the area is where the larvae have set up to pupate. Next week will be really nasty!

(Sorry. Not helpful, but I had to do it somehow. I was compelled by something.)

Ack! I said that indeed!

There is a slightly similar patch on my other arm, but it's even smaller. For eczema, I will attempt to find if it is, but that is a good inference. Thanks.

Should I post in there or sign up? (somewhat kidding; given my past posts, likely not)

A little question about cars and turbos:

If there are any, what is the difference between a twinturbo engine and a bi-turbo engine? (eg. Toyota Supra twinturbo and an Audi A6 bi-turbo...)

I think a twin turbo uses both turbos at the same time.

A bi-turbo uses them sequentially. So the first smaller turbo boosts at lower revs then the second larger turbo provides boost at higher revs.

Yep. but it can sometimes be a little confusing since some manufactures list something as "twin turbo", but in reality its a compounded turbo. The 2008 F450 is a good example. Also, it greatly reduces turbo lag.

It's impossible to tell what kind of setup the car has based on what the manufacturer calls it, because everyone uses various terms interchangibly. However, I agree with ExigeEvan's definition of "twin turbo," while I would call the second one a "twin sequential turbo." I've only ever seen "bi-turbo" used to describe Audis, or tuner cars from Germanic countries on internet videos. :)

This is more of a rant than a question.

When did we become such a parasitic of a civilization that everyone will go to the door the handicap button to automatically open the door for them? When and why has the world gotten too lazy TO OPEN A DOOR? I understand automatic doors for people with full hands at shopping malls or hockey arenas, but come on people, are you really too feeble-bodied and weak-minded to open the door for your friggin' self?

Haha it's not that bad, I see nothing wrong with using the button to open the door, in fact I do it sometimes since the doors at the dorms are so hard to open. What you should be complaining about is the fact that people in wheelchairs are too lazy to open the doors themselves or rely on others to be nice and help them.

I just do it because I think it looks cool to watch the door open for me.

Sometimes I will even say Open Sesame.

It's never been about laziness because usually it requires going a few steps out of my way to do it, and it is quicker to just pull the door open.

Just this one dumb question....
  • What in the world is (sp.?) means? Single Player? Special?

spelling?
Ooooooohhhhhhhh.......... :dunce:
Where would you find this "sp"?
This:
Esperante (sp.?) GT1, driving by after a long strip of bends. Pretty cool idea if you ask me. It doesn't show the greatest speed, but the camera was relatively low to the ground so that creates umm some aerial perspective, maknig the road behind it look very far away. 👍
and several others I've seen a few months ago which I didn't bother to ask........until now. :indiff:

Haha, poor Muzzy. I asked the same question to one of my friends long ago and they were like "HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW?" Honestly its funny to see people put that on stuff they think is spelt wrong. Most of the time they're absolutely correct in the spelling, which I find amusing. :)

As for a question. How come no-one reviews my cars in my garage? :indiff:

Lack of attention or use of videos. Make them videos!!

Why do I have to click the Start button to shut my computer off?

Heard this on television yesterday, I thought it was a brilliant, yet hilarious question

Why do I have to click the Start button to shut my computer off?

Cause you're using the wrong Windows Version :sly:
