Getting a PS3 this weekend 9/26/08. Time for some questions.

I think he's doing good consumerism, he's trying something to see if he likes it before he commits quite a bit of money to it. Not everyone likes the same thing, it's not fanboyism, it's just how people feel towards certain things. I prefer gaming on my PC over any console, does that make me a PC fanboy? Not at all.

But really, I can understand your opinion, Camaroboy, I hope I didnt seem rude.

I think it kinda boils down to whatever next gen system you had first. Its what youre used to, and if you dont care about Blu ray, Theres not much reason to shell out a lot of money for a PS3, aside from the exclusive games. Same goes the other way, I have a PS3, and it was the first next gen console I owned, and there is no reason for me to shell out more money for a 360, aside from a handful of games exclusive to it, (gears 1, 2, halo 3(which i despise, but would still get so i could play with my friends), mass effect, and others.)

I do not agree with the first part. Trying the system would be flat out buying it and keeping it until he no longer enjoys it. 30days of playing 1-2 year old Ps3 games and missing out on all the hot games coming out the end of october is not good consumerism. I agree with tig .

Even you at first used it for is multimedia capabilities. But had a reason to keep it. I owned both systems until I could not simple revert to a silver member ship so I could buy point and get DLC. There should be no reason why your accounts get suspend for not updating a credit card. They should have automatically changed it to silver despite it being a joke. My only option was use a new card. I did not want to pay for Xbox live any more. Just wasn't worth it for me.

I have played 154 games on the 360. Most of them I bet he never even tried. I seriously hate close minded people like Jeremy and thats why hes on my ignore list. So out of 154 games I played he can only pick 1 game that he calls bad and he probably never even played it. Just because a game might seem bad to you doesnt mean its a bad game. Except return policies are only 30 days in which he can get a full refund of his money. By buying it and selling it when he no longer enjoys it, he will take a hit monetarily as used systems won't sell for as much. Maybe the games coming out do not really interest him, I know most of the PS3 games due out over the next month really aren't of interest to me and the games are multi-platform will obviously be out for both systems.

I still really only use the PS3 as Blu-Ray/DVD player and only sometimes play games on it. I still find it worthless for streaming videos over the wireless connection because for whatever reason the PS3 will loose its connectivity in the process, the 360 is hard wired (because MS thought we all wanted wires all over our house) and it has no problem streaming videos...primarily Top Gear.

Eh, most of the games coming out in the next few months are right up his alley as far as genre and tone are concerned (MotorStorm 2 and Resistance 2 being two of those titles).

I understand he didn't enjoy it, I just think it's a bit premature to say it wasn't worth his money after such a short period of time. But, like I said, it's his choice to make, more power to him.

I finally played Motorstorm for about an hour last night and its quite fun but also very frustrating. I didnt get to try it online yet. I will add it to the first post.

Then I went back to MGS4...12 hours total.
Holy crap you guys were right. Mission 4 was friggin awesome after I got past the first few minutes!!!
**Spoilers ahead!***
I dont even know where to begin. First you get to battle all the Gekko inside the buildings.
After going outside I have to battle with the crying enemy in the robot that has the plasma type gun.
Then I had to beat Vamp. After I beat him the first time then I had to defend Raiden while he finished off Vamp as more Gekko's were attacking at the same time.
Following that I have to get out of the building before all the Gekko's explode within a certain time. While I am doing that I am shooting and crushing Gekko's with my robot.
If that wasnt enough then you get to battle robot to robot against Liquid.
Then Raiden stops the entire massive submarine to what I thought was his death.
Holy crap epic moments through that entire level. Now I am at the very beginning of mission 5 on the sub and there are a lot of enemies coming.
I am looking forward to finishing this up tonight and see what happens. :dopey:👍

Told you so. Now, just imagine if you had played MGS1, which took place completely in that base, and had the huge nostalgia awesome factor to go with it.
 
CAMAROBOY I get the feeling you trying to 'fast track' your PS3 experience and that might be the reason for your disatisfaction... you can't like rent all the games and try them out one after the another like a schedule, its takes like a year to get into a console and giving it only a few weeks doesnt represent the benefit you can get from it over time... From your posts its almost like you are trying to quickly find reasons which justify its purchase over just sticking with your 360. Saying that you didnt want to keep it after a few days really baffled me as some people would give there left nut to have one.

I bought mine expecting nothing, and I still dont really expect all that much out of it at least until halfway through its lifecycle when it will probably start to shine... I am however impressed with all its media capabilities and I use it constantly for Pictures, Videos etc, the gaming part for me at the moment is only a small part as I dont realy see anything that stands out yet.

If I went through everything the console had to offer in one week I would probably think that it was really underwhelming because I would see nothing special.... it would just be a quick blur of averageness because when you dont take the time over something you dont really see what it has to offer.

Its not a knock, just a suggestion, but dont try and get everything out of the system in one go. :)

It's like bag of candy. If you have candy from the bag a day, you will love it. But eat the whole bag in one go, you're stomach will hurt...

I think someone mention FANBOY... And to me... buying a Console then Returning it after 30 days and sticking with OLD console, sounds like a fanboy move... my opinion..

Well keep you're PS3, SOCOM is coming Next week.. Actuallly in just few days, either on Tuesday or Wednesday. After Socom, you are not going back to any other shooters out there ;)

Perhaps fanboy is not really the right word, but I do believe that, with no offense, CB69 bit a little more than he could chew, the thing is that rating a console after just trying it for 30 days is a long shot trying to have the complete PS3 expirience in a month.

Besides it's harder for hiim to move out of a console, simply put you're more used to the other and at least I started having so much fun gaming when I started playing with friends I made online as this takes it to a whole new level, so as I think CB already has friends on XboxLive it's just harder to compare the differences from the gaming aspect.

It could be that or that the PS3 didn't really float his boat, if some people consider that he didn't give a chance to the ps3 is just a different issue, and after all he's saving himself 400dlls, and as CB69 has mentioned earlier at least he's not ready to spend that much YET, he never mentions anything about let's say a year from now, anyway I think I'm just babbling on so I'll shut up now.
 
I finished up MGS4 last night and it was indeed a very good ending. That mantis boss took me several attempts before finally beating her. I had no idea how to inject myself so once I figured that out I was all set.
Not really sure which game to get next. Seems like I have rented and tried all the exclusive titles that my local rental stores have. I guess I could re-rent Uncharted, Resistance, or GT5P. Any other exclusive games or Blu-ray suggestions? I have this weekend and next weekend then thats it. I also have the movie 300 but didnt get a chance to watch it last night since the MGS4 ending took a couple hours.

But if he mention he is not ready to spend 400 bucks now... how he got money in first place? I would keep it.. It really sounds fan boyish. I seen so many FANBOY forums and comments that they say. I had PS3, after few weeks I return it to get a Xbox360, or Wii, or get my money back.. etc.. I am getting tired of it..
 
A fanboy thing would be to never give the system a chance before saying one didn't like it. He tried it and didn't like it at this time, I see nothing wrong with that. In fact he's done more then a lot of people had who bash the PS3 or the 360. And if you are tired of hearing this then don't read the threads.

Yeah, I actually saved beforehand and then watched it the next night.


If you like racing I suggest checking out Formula 1: Championship Edition.

Any other recommendations I could suggest would be PSN games and can't be rented.

How is he supposed to know what was said without reading it? Isn't that why we have these forums, to express our opinions on things as long as they are not offensive and immature. Some people like to add their opinion even if its not helpful :). It's choice right? Why even use this if you are not going to read threads and give opinions?
 
Don't forget Killzone 2, I think it will be much better and strategic then R2.
Maybe next year there will be more Price drops, so then you might get a nice deal.
What was you're favorite game out of all that you play?

CB: Try out Hot Shots Golf, and if you have a chance, maybe give UT3 a spin on PS3 with some mods installed, it's great fun.

Edit: Good edit Nox, because your post was seriously off topic. Having played both R2 and KZ2, I can say they are far too different to compare, but R2 has a bit more depth to it's gameplay, at least online. Singleplayer may be a different story, as I haven't played either of those.

this is KZ2 beta footate,, Multiplayer. I play R1 and KZ1
I think KZ1 was a lot of glitchy and unpolished, but seems more depth then R1 gameplay. In R1 You run and shoot, not really dock for cover, in KZ2 there is a cover system, as well its better when you shoot when you are more stationary like SOCOM.. but SOCOM ps3 is still the king.

Like I said, while I can understand your sentiments, I have played both Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 multiplayer. Resistance 2 is more strategic and offers more depth with weapon variety and team work.

Both are excellent games, and very fun.
 
Well, I would suggest Warhawk but the thing with that game is that the first hours are quite hard as you're getting used to the game and since it's online only there's a steep learning curve, good thing they just implemented the tutorials, that woul've helped me a year ago but better late than never.

Good idea, especially as they put a demo out yesterday and on the Playstation Blog the game's developer said the demo has 90 dedicated servers so that demo players don't get pwned.

CAMAROBOY69, I suggest visiting the PlayStation Store and downloading the Warhawk demo if you don't feel like renting the game just to get overwhelmed when you go to play.
