Getting a PS3 this weekend 9/26/08. Time for some questions.

Oh right, no I had gathered you had seen the movie!! Theres no way someone would want it that bad if they hadnt seen it! :sly: I was just wondering if you were interested in the extra special features and how it faired on Blu Ray as apposed to DVD. IGN seemed to give its release on the fomat good rep.

I have already seen the movie and absolutely loved it. I usually use this link http://dvd.ign.com/articles/909/909242p2.html for blu-ray reviews. They gave it a 4.5/5 video and 5/5 audio. Cant wait to get Iron Man. I really dont care about any of the extra stuff, I just want the movie. đź‘Ť

lol Thats actually the link I was supposed to post but ended up copying the same one he posted. Thats why I said they gave it a 4.5/5 video and 5/5 audio. Yes thats the exact site I go to for blu-ray reviews. I will correct the link above.

I will be getting it this Friday the 26th. What exclusive titles am I missing out on? I have the xbox360 already and have played over 154 games on it. I need a few ideas of games to rent this weekend for the PS3. I will try to at least rent GTP5.

Be sure to rent Ferrari Challenge its not a bad racer. And its not on the Xbox360. You are the creative type so I'm sure you will be looking into Little Big Planet?? First PSN title you should get is Super Stardust HD.

Motorstorm, but motorstorm 2 is coming out soon, so just rent the older one.

SOCOM is coming out in just few weeks
UNCHARTED, you will be amazed by the graphics.
FOLKLORE , its a realy good and soild title if you like RPGs
Metal Gear Solid, (it comes with MGS:embarrassed:nline) This is best games of all time and best franchisees ever, in my opinion. Just amazing game and experiance with HIGH replay value and LONG LONG LONG game, took me 24 hours in my first try!!
Ratchet n Clank, really fun and I think best platformers out there.

There are also good PSN download games, and I think this week WIPEOUT HD is coming out this week, IGN gave it a 9.0 its a sci-fi racing game, looks great and good game play.

About Gran Turismo 5 P, rent it, but it's really best if you have a wheel for it without the wheel you are missing half of the experience. I personally love it since I am a Hard Core sim player.

F1 game, I have it, but did not like it too much

These are all exclusives (i think) that I own, I also have other games but they are not exclusive just to PS3.

Keep in mind that there are a ton of demo's on the PSN. If you let them, they'll keep you busy for a good long while. Plus it obviously lets you know what games you'll want to buy, rent or skip.

Not to mention the new Blu-Ray goodness you're about to have. :D
 
Thanks for all the game ideas and thats a great point about the demos. I remember when I downloaded the Crackdown demo for the 360. I put over 24 real life hours into that demo. I put hundreds into the full game. Same with the Test Drive Unlimited demo. Looking forward to Friday to see what the PS3 has to offer. đź‘Ť

Looks like today is the big day. I will be picking it up after work. I heard this PS3 does not come with an HDMI cord or Component cord. Please tell me thats not true. :ill:

Its true, so you will need to grab yourself a HDMI, no need to spend a fortune on one (after all its digital better wire doesn't transmit 1 and 0's any better) so long as its reasonably well made.

$400 system and doenst even have the HDMI or Component cables. :dunce: I read through this entire thread and I dont think a single person mentioned that. Are you sure there arent any other surpised I need to know about?
 
I was a bit surprised with the lack of HD cables when I bought my system, but you can get them off the net for something like $5. Although it is annoying.

No way am I waiting to get the cable off the net. lol I will be playing this rig tonight and watching a blu-ray movie for sure. :sly:
 
I used my old ps2 hd cables before upgrading my TV and getting a $4 6 foot HDMI cable from amazon.com. Its not a big deal since component cables are easy to find at game stop for PS2. They use the same mulit port.

I did the exact same thing, although my HDMI cable came from monoprice instead of amazon.

Oh dang now I wish I would have kept my PS2 component cables. I am pretty sure I gave them to my sister. Thats ok I want to see how HDMI looks anyway since I have never hooked HDMI to my tv yet. My 360 uses the component cables and looks simply stunning.
 
I'd rather the PS3 come without an HDMI cable so i can buy a nice clean one rather than that mess of a composite-style cable that comes with the 360.
 
Why not just have it come with an HDMI though? I mean if it's an HD capable machine it should be HD ready right out of the box.

I dunno. I'm glad they didn't though, because it probably would have added $30-$50 to the price tag.
 
I was also suprised when I opened my PS3 box and only sound the standard old AV cable (I remember when RF was the norm and AV was this pesky cable my TV had no input for :P )

I also underestimated the difference when I finally ditched the AV for a HD cable, wow.

Ahh STOP COMPLAINING, you are getting a decent quality BLURAY player!! haha just kididing, but to think of it, its still good deal.
Another thing is...
No mic, but any USB mic or bluetooth will work, so you are not stuck to just buy sony products like the MICROSOFT does with xbox ;)

You will find many games online to be quiet.. only game that people talk is SOCOM beta, that is from my experiance.
There is a new official Bluetooh headset for Playsation to come out in just few weeks, Get it with SOCOM. Much better then COD4, Halo3, Counter Strike, ETC, best shooter out there.

OH crap thats right no headset either. lol Jeez I guess I will just hold off on getting it. j/k Since I wont be playing many games on this its no big deal. I will have to check out that Socom beta. Anything special I need to do for that beta?
When you say decent blu ray player what do you mean? I thought this was one of the better blu-ray players?
 
Almost any bluetooth earpiece will work aside from wired headsets. Its good to have choices and to not be stuck with proprietary devices.

And adding an HDMI cable would not drive the price up, just production cost. Sony doesn't need that if its not necessary.
