What, he couldn't say what vehicle he got for his first car? Sorry to say, but you seem to sound like you own this thread which I find kind of sad since you aren't the OP. The RX-7 can be a perfectly reasonable suggestion for a first car.

Read the first post, this thread is about helping a guy to decide on his first car. Then ND4SPD's post was about his car- not a suggestion- he even said he was not suggesting the RX-7 in his next post. So therefore this wasn't the thread to be posting his first car. That'd be like me saying about my Ute- which you can't even get in America- absolutely pointless. RX-7 might be a good first car for some, but they are thirsty and socomplayer2 wants a car that's relatively easy on fuel. End of.

The multiquote isn't working for me so I'll do this from memory.

On the v6 camaro/firebird I would love a 5speed t-tops (last gen). I don't think I would go for the v6 mustang. Don't get my wrong v8 stangs' are near my favorite cars out there, but the v6 mustangs are mostly girl cars around here and there is just something about them I don't like. The v6 camaros still look like a more "manly" car and also have a t-tops option.

On the gti, I just want to keep it as one of my options, because I really like it lol. I went for a test drive a few weeks ago and me and my dad were really impressed.

Last the Wrx wagon is my faveorite choice. I think I want the 2.0 turbo over the 2.5 non-turbo, but its not a huge issue.

any car is thirsty if you keep driving like your foot weights a ton. a small, slow and maybe even boring car would be good choice. 150bhp is enough to get you into trouble. Just try to find a second hand small hatch, like Fit or Echo.. or maybe even a civic or a VW. just forget V6's and other performance applications.

True he wasn't suggesting it, but he was relating to a point another poster listed which I see nothing wrong with. Now when he went off on a tangent about how powerful the RX-7's are, then I agree that was a bit much. But I see nothing wrong with talking about your own first car in a thread for someone looking for a first car, even if he wasn't suggesting it.

You know you want a Brazillian-built thoroughbred circa 1993... Back when I had a Fox, man, that has to be one of the most-fun cars I've ever driven. Lightweight, tight suspension/steering, good on gas. What a car, what a car!

That is very true. The Suzuki xl-7 (dads car) gets decent mileage when my dad drives. I tend to drive it like a sports car and I have to fill it up before my dad sees how much gas I used.

I think the fox's are really cool, but aren't they rare? I have probably seen 2 in my life.

I would love one, like a fox body 5.0. Unfortunately the v8 would be bad on gas and a killer on insurance.

That's the inspiration in the Forced Induction + Fuel Economy thread is from, me wanting a 5.0L '93 'Stang and dropping a supercharger in it.

Seeing as the stock one has only 205 horsepower and it's older ('87 to '93) it may not be too much of a pain in the insurance, it's got just as much power as that Red Trams Am suggested up there, and it fits criteria.

*4 seater
*Stick shift (I love driving these)
*15/24 for gas mileage, more if you drive easy, seeing as those were the really old EPA ratings.

I'll second ND4SPD's suggestion on the Buick Regal GS. It's a rocketship in disguise, and gets very good mileage for its size. Plus it seats several and is very comfortable.

I didn't see this before, but I agree. And you'll have the plus side of owning a Buick which means lower cost for insurance.

I'm not sure where you are at in New Jersey but here are some options:

Audi A4, 71,000 miles on it, AWD, manual, seats five, V6 engine
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...transmission=Manual&max_price=10000&cardist=2

Another A4
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ransmission=Manual&max_price=10000&cardist=35

Subaru RS, 68,000 miles, AWD, manual, seats five, four cylinder
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ransmission=Manual&max_price=10000&cardist=50

The bottom two are really nice. The top one's shade of blue is unappealing to me.

I certainly hope you're not buying your used car based on color. Certainly you could pass up a hot pink Golf, but if you refused to get that one car because it wasn't red, then you're being really picky.

Sorry to burst your bubble but he'll never be able to afford the repair costs on those three much less the insurance for the Impreza.

Can I just say that you think a Mustang V6 is a girl's car but you want an Imprezza? Maybe America is different but even my sister (who I don't like much :sly: ) owns a WRX.

V6 'Stang, true, a lotta girls drive them, but with just a simple Y pipe(I think such a monster exists) and a new muffler, you'll have one that looks like a GT and sounds much better than stock. Plus, V6 Mustang is less expensive, therefore more than making up for purchasing the exhaust parts.

If I am going to get a car I don't want something that I don't want to look at. Its a really nice car but why get that one when there is a similar one in a better color.

The v6 mustangs are really cheap around here. Ive seen some go for 7k for ones that aren't really that old.

Also there are a few last gen camaros both v8 and v6 at a dealership near my house. This weekend I think me and my friend are going to check them out. Hopefully I will go for a test drive. Unfortunately they are both automatic but it would give me a good feel for how the cars are.

Cool, don't pounce on the first car you see (you probably knew that). If you drive the auto and think, hey this car would be awesome in a manual I really want one, just wait and keep your eyes out for the right one to pop up.

They're hyper-rare in the United States. I could count the number I've seen, plus the one I owned, on one hand.

My friend who ran a local VW shop sold cars on the side too, he said that he had a late-model coupe wagon (yes, they made them that way) and there was a bid war on the car. As I recall he bought it for like $1000 off some old dude, ended up fixing it up a bit and turning it around for over $4000.

They had sedans, coupes, and coupe wagons in the US. It was all MKII Jetta/Golf parts underneath, but it would steal various bits and pieces from other cars. It had the transmission from the Quantum/Passat, so the engine was inline instead of longitudinal, which always threw everyone for a loop...

------

And the Regal GS question?

I'd vote yes. Good sleeper car, good quality, easy to work on and cheap to fix. Can't really go wrong...

I remember seeing a 2door wagon or something similar to that a few years ago.

The only Buick Regal he could get that isn't FF is a carby is it? Not a good idea.

The last of the RWD Regals on the G-Body were carbed, yes. That Oldsmobile 307 was one of the last, I'm afraid.

Which somewhat reminds me: Going to work yesterday there was a bad-ass late-model Regal Turbo T in the parking lot. The guy looked like he was "restoring" it, but man did it have a mean exhaust note. With all the snow around, I was surprised that he was driving it.

Let us/me know what you think of the Camaros when you drive them will you socomplayer2?

GTI, such an expensive car- and keep in mind it's only good for a hot hatch- in comparation it's still FF and still has a 4cyl, though a well thought out one.

My parents have allowed me about $10,000 for a rear-wheel drive, manual, practice car (learning the road, not the driving this time) up until I turn 18 and can get a decent car. Importing a car, if you know how to do it and what to look for, can get you some great deals. Currently, I'm looking at a BNR32 (I know it has far too much power for someone my age, but the GTR is just too seductive) for around $11,000 complied. Failing that, E36 BMW 318i's and 1st-gen Mazda Miata's can be had for cheap prices.

You live in Oz, get a Commodore/Falcon. And when you say learning the road- do you mean sports driving? Plus can I say- you said you were allowed $10k for a RWD car- wouldn't a GTS-t Skyline be better for you than the GTR? Less power, RWD, similar styling. Stll though, get a Commodore/Falcon.

The good part of getting a Commodore or a Falcon is price and availability of parts.

You want a sporty good handling car, a first gen Miata/MX5 is a great choice and can be picked up fairly cheap.

Are you even allowed to have a turbo or V8 on your P's in Vic? Or is that just NSW?

Let us/me know what you think of the Camaros when you drive them will you socomplayer2?

Definitely , I just hope they will let me drive them. Since I am 17 they may not take me seriously. The reason I was able to drive the vws is because I talk to some of the guys there and my dad was there. I have been able to test drive with out my dad so I'll see how it goes and report back tomorrow.

GTI...such a great car.

The new GTi is such a sweet car. I drove an 08 at the begining of January. It was very fast and had a stiff yet really smooth suspesion.
