my sister's boyfriend recently purchased a '03 evolution and he's wondering what would be a good blow-off valve for that year of evolution would be?

Nothing beats the JDM MR BOV. NOTHING.

Unless he plans on running higher than 24PSI, then it'll start to leak.

Well, the 4G63 has always been very receptive to the Greddy Type-S. Many DSMs and Evos have them, and they work well. But, like MistaX said, he really doesn't NEED one. Unless he's planning on running a good deal more than stock boost pressures, the stock BOV is sufficient.

If all he wants is the sound, slap him and tell him to sell the Evo and drive a Corolla. He can do what he wants, but that car deserves better if thats his intent for "upgrading" the BOV. 👎 :grumpy:

You're my hero.

Pretty much any brand name aftermarket BOV would be fine, its all about personal chioce (I personally would keep the standard). One BOV I am really starting to hate is the HKS SSQ, everyone in my area has it.

I have kept my BOV standand so far but I still get the loud blow off and induction sound by installing a cold air intake system with a HKS pod filter. the BOV recirculates close to the pod filter which is why its easily heard. I will need to change it soon as I will be running alot more boost through it.

He's going with the APS Dual Vent BOV.
Congrats, now his car will run like crap.

It's going to run really rich between shifts, it could completely ruin the drivability of the car.

The only reason he should've gotten that, is if he were going be running high boost, which he's not. The car would need a full CPU Retune just to run that BOV correctly.

I recomended the JDM MR BOV for a reason.

"It is possible to drive with a bov(open atmosphere). But there are some setbacks. EVERY evo is different and a open atmosphere bov will work differently on EVERY evo. Some have stalling and idle issues and others DON'T, but they will all run rich between shifts.

Compressor surge is very bad for your turbo and it will sound like sss sss sss etc.

Choosing a BOV is like choosing injectors, it all depends on your setup. You will want to pick a BOV according to how much PSI you will run. Just because a BOV may be more expensive or holds more boost does not mean it is better for your application."
