Could you guys suggest some AGP video cards that I could buy for around $100. I'll only be playing day of defeat/CS and battlefield 2. I still kind a noob at this stuff, so how hard is it to install myself.

From looking at newegg.com, the best bang-for-your-buck is the x1600 Pro, but the cheapest one goes for ~$124 with shipping. For ~$103 with shipping there is the x1300, but it doesn't really have the performance.

Installation is pretty easy. Just look up a guide and you will know what to do.

I saw some X800gto for around that price too. Next time, post this in the computer section :)

Installations pretty easy. Usually its just a case where you unplug your computer, open up the case, take the old video card out of the AGP slot (thats the brown slot) put in the new video card, boot up and install the drivers. Oh, just in case you didn't know, if you buy an 8x AGP card it wont work in an AGP slot which can only support 2x or 4x.

Well it doesn't require much to play CSS, and DOD. My friend used to play it on a very old Nvidea card. Like 5-6 years old. And i know someone elese who used a crappy Intel Graphics card. So your options are how much your willing to spend. around $100 you can get a ATi Radion 9600SE (my old card) wich easly can play the Source, and HDR engines.

Wrong, it will work.

I currently have a Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb.

I am looking at PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB DDR3 and Sapphire X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AVIVO.

How much of a performance increase can i expect with either of those cards?

If you switched to the X1600, the difference will be minimal. If switching to the X800gto, the difference will be bigger. The GTO is a major overclocker :)

If I was you i would say save up a bit, and buy either a 256MB 6800 GT. Or a 256MB 7800 GS

👍 My thoughts exactly. I've heard good things about the GTO. Before replacing my PC i was looking to upgrade my 9800Pro to a GTO.

You sure you want to spend the money on the Graphic Card?

With Vista coming with DX10 I bet newer game will focus on that to compete with console games. Even the X1900XT use DX9. the bet of money is very high for the amount of time it will tough.

It will only cost about £200 to get my current pc to where i want it. It will be kept as a second pc in a couple of years because it should still kick pretty strongly.

By the time Vista comes out my Athlon64 3200+ might struggle a tiny bit. The biggest problem however, will be that my motherboard is not PCI-E.

I will probably have to build a new pc from the ground up for vista. In the mean time i'll spend a little bit here and there on my current pc to keep it going with the best of them.

The cost for a PCI-E motherboard & all will be the same as what you will spend for the graphic card. You still have keyboard, screen, mouse, box, supply & keyboard.

I'm planing on getting a new video card but its so hard to decide on which one I should get. I dont want to spend more than $150($200 max). I've been thinking about getting a 6600GT but I'm still not sure. :boggled:

True. But for windows vista, I would have to replace the mobo, the ram, the cpu and the graphics card. I might as well get a new computer!

Hey guys,

What do you think of the NVidia 6600 GT ? Is that not supposed to be the least bucks and best performance ratio ?

THe extra 256mb wont help much considering the card is pretty slow compared to the X800.

I seem to just be quoting you all the time in this thread!..

But Dunc i agree. 256 is more than enough for a slower card. The graphics card industry has always released slow cards with huge amounts of onboard ram, but it's all about getting the better overal card not just which has the higher numbers :)

Is the 6600GT the best to get for about $150 or is the X800GTO better? Still trying to figure out what to get.
