How would you rate Gran Turismo 5

Just the bad:
GT5 needs more events and more real-life events. The only reason it has so many tracks is because of multiple different variations. I'd like to see some more real-life tracks, too. The leveling system just seems to prevent people from buying cars. This has been beaten to death, but, while there are 1000 cars, only 200 are premium. GT3 showed, though, that these games do not need so many cars, having 180. I would have rather had 300-400 premium cars than all of these 1000. B-spec is boring and frustrating; to win a new race relatively quickly, Bob's car has to be ungodly overpowered. Polyphony just removed the ability to change TCS in-game via the DFGT for all events AFAIK. The Special events add a little to the game, but in the right direction. Only if there could be more rally events like the ones in Special, NASCAR, etc (and tack them on to A-Spec mode). 8/10

Rated it 70.

It's a fun game, but no doubt gets boring fast. From the beginning, you already have a sense the game seems unfinished, but was pushed out any way.

GT2 had 850 cars

GT3 had 150 cars

??

GT3 came out just five months after the PS2 launch and less than one year and a half after GT2. Also the technical and graphical difference since its preceding game was proportionally immense compared to what there's between GT4 and GT5.

What about GT5?
Four years after the PS3 Launch, five years and a half after GT4.
Came out after GTHD Concept (2006) and GT5 Prologue (2007). We could also say after GTPSP (2009) and the first GT Academy (2009).
80% of the included cars are rehashed content, a cut and paste job from GT4 and GTPSP. A bit less than 10% of them are from GT5 Prologue.
Some tracks are clearly quick HD upscales of older assets (Trial Mountain, La Sarthe 2005, Cote d'Azur, Laguna Seca... if you think about it, they are the last ones that have been unveiled during the development time, I think PD were in hurry or something and decided at the last moment to convert some new tracks to reach just barely the "70+ variations" mark with 71 in total). Why other older ones from GT4/PSP haven't been included is a mystery (although I could guess why).

I often read here the argument that GT5 is the first "big" GT title for the PS3, so it's excused for having less content than GT4. This could have been understandable if it came out in 2007 at most, not at the end of 2010.

Before somebody picks up GT1 as an example that odd numbered games in the series are the base to be refined for sequels, I have to point that the first one was made by 10 people or so.

I gotta admit after playing it close to %50 I cannot imagine a single day of my gaming life without GT5. I would vote 96, but I rounded it up and voted 100. :D

In the beginning it felt meh as a GT game, but the more I played it I've learned to love it, more so with recent updates. It's all in the driving feeling and challenges, nothing else.

By my own standards, it would be a 9.2 (GT4 was a 9.6 - yes, I'm still sour over Mission 34) so I rounded down to 9.0. In all, I'm just not happy with the XP system, everything else is fun and with getting updates and more Premium cars that helps the score too. But having to do the Le Mans 6 times or so just to get to level 40 and do another 24 hour enduro is wrong no matter how you slice it. There are updates, which have been good, but I really doubt we will get much XP Points from playing online. This may be the first GT game I don't complete 100% (well, you know the story with GT2....).

I gave it 80, as it is better than I expected, but still has many things I would improve or change. Maybe the best game in the series, but for me, it's close between this and GT3.

80 at release, 85-90 since the consistent patches and upgrades and the entire seasonal events concept, will either stay there or get even better depending what PD do in upcoming updates.

I gave it 80 because of the updates that are improving the game say's to me that PD think it could be better and so do I. Not that i found it to be bad in the first place.

Have the people who rated this 100% actually played the game? 7/10 at most. It's an unfinished game and in many, many respects massively disappointing.

SHIRAKAWA Akira,

The difference/technical from GT4 to GT5 is MUCH bigger then GT2 to GT3

GT4 cars are 5,000 polygons, GT5 cars are 500,000 polygons. 100x more detailed. They have to model, in 1080p detail, the outside and insides of the cars now even the bottom. Add damage modeling, vastly improved AI, 3D, day night weather effects, online etc and The technical difference from GT4 to GT5 is MUCH bigger then GT2 to GT3

You also dont mention Tourist Trophy, GT5P or GTPSP which took up time in the gap from GT4 to GT5

Im not excusing how long it took for the game to come out. I personally believed the game had numerous technical problems in development because Sony forced 1080p and 3D on GT5. Current consoles arent ready for 1080p gaming. If people realize GT5 is not the product of 5 straight years of undivided attention from PD and lack of technical problems then they wouldn't be so hard on it. We don know all the facts

Im just in awe of people who mark the game a 70 or less because GT5 didnt meet their imaginary expectations.

Meanwhile I'll enjoy what I wanted most out of GT5, incredible on the limit edge of your seat driving physics

How can people rate this game perfect. Lack of leaderboards must mark it down for starters.

I went for 80. Much room for improvement but what it does, it does fairly well.

I rated it an 80. Waaaaaaaaay too many standard cars. I should be able to paint almost any car and put different wheels on it too. I would like to see alot more RM capable cars (what's up with not being able to RM a Viper or Ford GT?) We get the leno tank car AGAIN and so many other forgettables but no Pontiac Trans Ams, GTO Judge, AMC AMX and Javelins, the Golden Age of Can Am race cars and 50's through 70's Formula Gran Prix Cars are glaringly missing. This game is good but it could be SOOOOOOOO much better.

BUT, it's all I'm playing right now and I play it alot....I'm hooked

I gave it 70

The graphics are, on the whole, outstanding. I love the physics, I love the unique feel to every car, I love the tracks. I love taking a car onto Nurburgring and wiling away the hours trying to perfect my laps. In my opinion there really isn't a better feeling than driving around the 'Ring, inside the cockpit, no HUD, night time, full beam, big TV, surround sound... exhilarating.

Sadly, GT is let down by the same old problems and a couple of new ones:

The dumb as steamed carrots AI; I never feel like I'm actually in a race with other drivers. The only way PD create [the illusion of] a tight race is by making me start last and trying to beat a better car with better tyres and a huge lead (see the Focus seasonal event, for example).

The damage model; there isn't one despite the fanfare.

Lack of events; A-spec mode is disturbingly brief (as far as available events go). PD have recently moved to rectify this with the new seasonal events, which is heartening, but these are only available for a limited time and some are maddeningly difficult to beat. Why didn't they just add more championships in the official A-spec roster? Why not add lots of one-make races like in GT4?

Standard and Premium; The less said, the better.

I gave it 70 because what it does, it does very well. But there are gaping holes.

I voted 90 (would have giving in 89 if it were possible). Yes the game could've been much much better and more polished some times. But every single moment I'm reminded of how much I love the game. Beating the RX7 seasonal event for example. That's why I play the game:dopey:

If PD keeps updating like they're already doing and tweaking tiny, subtle things(saving during endurance would be nice as I cannot be online for that long) this game is going to be just awesome.

I rated it a 60.

If you've ever played a hardcore racing sim on a PC, like GTR2, you realize how much realism GT5 lacks. That on top of the "Premium" vs "Standard" cars bs, this game is just short of a fail IMHO. It's utterly incomplete and feels more like it was meant to be the Prologue than the actual game.

GTR2 released in 2006. It has full visual and mechanical damage, and setup pages where TIRE PRESSURES... for the love of god tire pressures matter. It's supposed to be a racing SIMULATION GT5! Tire pressures are one of the most critical adjustments you can make to a car! They can drastically change how the car reacts and handles. It also features every single adjustment you can make to the aero, suspension etc in REAL units. not some 1 to 10 slider scale bull crap.

Get rid of this grinding BS and step up to where other sims are already at, make all the cars look the same, have the same views, then GT5 will get a 100, but as of right now it falls flat on it's face.

Just for clarification I am not a GT hater. I love the series, have owned every GT ever released and still support it even tho GT5 is a load of horse crap.

I had to vote as comparing it to other Gran Turismo´s. 80 is as high as it gets for me, mainly because the game quite didn´t live to the expectations. Sure, its the best Gran Turismo, but It doesn´t come close to the Gran Turismo 5 that lived in the news, before its release. As comparing it to other racing titles, maybe its lacking some features, but the pure driving pleasure that the game gives is enough to beat the competition. I really wanted to give GT5 a 100... but little details like the "Premium - Standard" thing (Although I enjoy the standards at the same level than the premiums), and the lack of events(Tracks are not the issue here. There are enough tracks to make more events, but all the events keep on repeating the same tracks), plus the whole grinding thing, are the only negatives on GT5.

Actually as I see it standard cars like Veyron are a joy to look at and premium cars like old Toyota Supra from '90s looking weird with too high suspension, unnatural and also premium cars have a lot of jaggies while standard not so evident. I really don't care for standard/premium cars as long as the game plays well, also don;t care for B-spec, or rally, or drifting. All I demand is new cars and customization/tuning and tracks to drive on, a balanced online mode that would be a joy for anyone to use it and they come back everyday.

I was thinking the same earlier, but few posts above us, when phil_2001 commented that he rounded up his "96" to a 100, it made more sense. OK, maybe some sense. :D

I have driven NASCARs in the game (I'm a fan of it BTW), and they're awesome and sweet, even though I (still) wish there were Dodge Charger CoTs in the game.

The foundations in the game are amazing, everything is laid out but the game is incomplete, the A-Spec races are too easy and the B-spec mode is too grindy. Driving physics are very good but the racing cars are over the top.

The game is brilliant and it deserves an 8 or 9 out of 10, it would have been a 10/10 if it was not so incomplete.

I feel there could have been more cars offered as Premium and there could be more cars in certain classes, like more race-preppable cars and more open-wheeled cars such as F1 cars from earlier eras, or at least more F1 cars so everyone's not just zipping about in F2007s and the F10s.

95!

+ The best feel and physics of any racing game.
+ Game depth! Racing, Rally, Karting, NASCAR, Tuning, Cars, Tracks, Seasonals, B-spec, Photo mode, Online racing, Track maker and more... so much stuff to do!
+ Graphical beauty (For a PS3)
+ 1000 cars
+ Online racing works great for me

- Some graphical issues
- Load times
- Some engine sounds

To make a long story short, GT5 still is the best racing game ever imo 👍

For my is a 95 in this moment:

+ Huge variety of cars from Kei works to F1
+Physics are stunning
+Photomode and Phototravel
+ Karting and point to point rally (this last as a concept)

- Jaggie Shadows and pop up
- There's no way to make static rain and/or night on arcade mode
- Lack of themes for course maker

It took long enough for me to get a feel for this game, but I think I have finally made up my mind. An "80".

It's actually more like 75, but I have to give them extra considerations for the game's heritage, and unbelievable amount of work that they have put in. But when it comes down to it, I had to subtract points for things like:

1) Fun Factor - I think they lacked more than little bit in this department. And as a real driving simulator, it might've been a no-win situation. Many will like the simulator game, sure. At the same time, the challenge factor does become too high for many gamers who might not want to spend the time & effort polishing their skills, leveling up, earning the cash, etc.

2) Execution - The game is all over the place. IMO, both in good sense & bad. Lots of stuff to do, great. At the same time, premium car/stand car things is not acceptable to me. Operation in many of modes of the single to multiplayer are just awkward.

3) Multiplayer - This is huge part of console games these days. Unlike first person shooters, you can't just go ahead with Team Deathmatch, I understand that. Tracks change everything, cars also change everything. Maybe it is impossible to make a simulator-type racing game as accessible as games like Call of Duty multiplayers. In my personal opinion, this is going to be the beginning of the end of Gran Turismo as one of the top leading games. More complicated the multiplayer game play becomes, fewer players will be online playing it. I do have to admit that I do live in the U.S., and my American market bias is very strong regarding multiplay playability. Mario Kart sounds pretty good to me right about now, and that says it all, I think.

Again, I'd give it a "75" rounded up to an "80".

After 6 months, "50 - Just another racing game. Talk about overhyped!".
Have just gotten bored grinding trying to get to lvl40 and buy more cars. No more challenge for me to it too. Too much time wasted...

80

Dodgy damage, no proper car painting, no proper in-game trade system, horrible menus.

It scored eighty because it looks/drives like nothing I've ever played - AWESOME!

Its hard because I've played forza 3 so much before I sold my xbox and bought my ps3.

Anyway I have given it an 80. With an auction house and livery editor like forza this game is a 90. I do still have issues with the god awful damage modelling, levelling system, and the number of duplicate cars.
