How would you rate Gran Turismo 5

Curious to see if the newer members/voters would affect the poll, or if anybody has changed their take on this game?

Voted 80 though I feel it's closer to 85.

Likes:

-Sheer number of cars to try out with GT5's better physics (and my G27) compared with GT4's. That plus arcade mode's infinite lap races/time trials at the Nurburgring 24H (and others) equals hours of bliss. :)

(To be more specific on physics, I can do proper donuts and it's much easier to correct oversteer.)

-It's the (hopefully only) main numbered GT on the PS3, so how can I dislike it too much? :sly:

-Visual active-aero effects on most cars fitted as such.

-PD put working light/handbrake indicators on pretty much every premium, even those from Prologue!

-'Super' premiums like the Mac MP4-12C, Maserati GTS, Nissan Leaf, Lambo Miura and Aventador, Toyota Vitz and Supra. (Working analog/digital trip/odometers, hybrid/electric car power meters, oil pressure/boost meters, analog/digital clocks and well modelled exteriors.) 👍

Dislikes:

-Cannot enter premium's interiors in photomode. (The static models are generally brilliant!)

-Interface does not seem as well designed or 'smooth' as GT4's.

-Shame that PD cannot really do anything about the stripy shadows. (Why I hope the next GT is a launch title for the PS4.)

-I believe Digital Foundry said that the file format system used causes slow loading times.

-B-spec singleplayer exclusive events are maybe a bit pointless.
(Correct me if I am wrong but weren't they sort of optional in GT4 and could be used from the pits for the A-spec endurance events?)

-Compared with GT4 or even GT PSP, arcade car selection is a scrolling mess and why can't we unlock stock cars we bought in career mode?

-Funky low-speed physics (well documented elsewhere in GTPlanet) and non-proper clutch action. (Cannot slip the clutch to move off from a stop.)

-Inconsistent Premium car models/driving characteristics/performance.

I would repeat some points from my recent 1000 word essay in the feedback section, including 'why do only some cars have working 'secondary' interior gauges?' (Or worse, wonky speedos like the C3 Vette, Viper ACR and Alfa 8C!)

Or some 3D models seeming 'incomplete' with 'blocky' looking parts (M5 and FD2 Type-R) or
average/incorrect wheel size/placement/modelling.
(This is why the Infiniti G35, Nissan 370Z (Fairlady), S15 Silvia and Mercedes SLS are off the 'super' premium list.) :grumpy:

Or cars with traction control based 'eLSDs' being given 'proper' LSDs like the Golf GTi, 135i, front axles of the road-going Audis, LP560-4, LP640 and Aventador..... yet not those like the Minis.

Or non-active 4WD fore/aft torque splits (though I doubt any other sim-cade/simulator does so).

And why do the Evos have AYC yet the GTRs with similar systems don't?

To conclude:
I feel that GT's role is to provide super high detailed cars of all types, with accurate driving characteristics and 'feeling'. Thus allowing you to 'test drive' whatever car in the virtual world. (Also the reason I would prefer more road cars in future DLC.)

haha Perfect ^^^

Me too. I agree with everything you said.

I gave it a 90, but it's more of an 85.

I gave the game a 4 out of 10 at the time of its release. After the 2.0 update it deserves 6, at least. Still way too inconsistent regarding quality and in comparision to previous games.

I give it 80% B why cause I dislike it being called real driving simulator when No one on earth know what an X2010 is then they even made a time trial with that car in order to get platinum but still 80% is still pretty high that the only thing I dislike about GT5

That's pretty unreasonable. just saying

The inconsistency of the entire game is a good part that should be considered when grading a game. One car isn't.

I gave it a generous 70.

+ Great physics
+ Premium cars look amazing
+ Photomode is still the best in any console game I've played
+ Track Editor

- Standard cars aren't that great looking (although some do look good which makes me think there are actually 3 tiers of cars)
- Load times are terrible even after installing the game
- Damage
- Lack of customization (say what you want, but this feature is becoming more and more standard, especially with this style of game).

It just feels like half of a game, still great and I will still play it until GT6 but it could have been a lot better.

You read my mind, this is what i was also going to say.
I would also like to add,

+Seasonal events

- Multiplayer

And out of all the games i have, i still keep coming back to play this game for seasonals, and multiplayer competitions, even though it has given me a lot of grief.

For PS3 owners, and car lovers, this game is the no.1 Racing/driving game.

After a year 16 months or so playing I wonder how expectations have altered.

Personally I am glad some of the areas are "too easy" as it lets you as a driver make your own difficulty level - and have fun growing your skill sets with the win badges and free cars.

I don't like the licence tests for the stop start nature, so the fact you cn pretty much ignore them is a boon. I like the aspect that someone who does put the effort in for the licence tests gets a free car or two.

The Level XP thing is odd, having to drudge away to get XP to level up to do a certain race is a chore if you are in a rush.

But that is the best aspect to GT - you have plenty of options to muck about with. Plenty of cars to have a dash in.

Prize tickets - I confess I used to cheat with my 1000 tickets to cash them in at the end of a session - if it was a good car - I saved the game. if it was a car I didn't like, I quit out of the game and my ticket was safe for next time I played.

You can't do this (As easily) now -

Paints Horns and wheels
Useful if you have a "Leno" garage of cars and you can't remember which GTFour is the one with the stripped out interior and the steroid filedl enginebay. Being able to paint a car a colour that you know is "Race spec" is useful

There are odd bad cars, dodgy sounds. But there are far more good cars, And it is good there is variety in the game.

Too Many Skylines?
Japanese game made by folks in Japan. They will have a wealth of data on these cars, 90's Japanese 276's - This is the games strong area. The other bits are other bits. But GT's core has been these cars.

I voted "zero".why? because of kids that voted "10".kids if you think this game is perfect then you are brain dead

peace

just those retarded screen shakes and screen movement when braking etc. makes it an average game

They voted 10 and they think it's perfect, you can vote anything you want, it's simple

I was thinking wether I should give it 90 or 80. In the end I gave it 80.

On one hand it is everything I was hoping for, actually it's more than I was hoping for... I would have been happy with GT5 Prologue with only a couple of more tracks and some more cars.

The premium models are beautiful, I like the car selection (although I would love the latest Volvo S60 and SAAB 9-5 (fjord blue!), but hey I fully understand that the game was not made in Sweden...)

The standard cars doesn't look as good, obviously, but I think the variation compensates more than enough for that, it adds another dimension to the game. When racing you can't really tell the difference between standard and premium and it's not what you focus on either.

I'm driving with the DFGT wheel and it makes the driving experience even better.

The effects from daylight progression and weather is fantastic, the Nordschleife is in itself worth more than 100 points on this scale...

The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2.

On the other hand, while I find the driving aspect absolutely brilliant, there are many things in the user interface and other minor features that still seems to be in alpha or beta state... It has been improved through patches, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

The seasonal events, that was a fresh addition in the start, has become rather uninteresting. It's fast cash and it's a way to farm helmets and suits, but that's all there is for me. I would appreciate if they thought about new ways to renew the game through seasonal events, without making every seasonal event a copy of the previous one.

The game progression is more about moving up to more and more powerful cars, rather than facing more and more skilled opposition. The last endurance, for instance, on Nürburgring 24h I would prefer racing against GT cars (with highly skilled AI) over the totally unrealistic LMP cars (would any LMP actually survive 24 hours around that circuit? I think not). A way to incorporate the B-spec team in the >4 hour races would be nice as well, and it would give B-spec a better reason for being a part of the game.

The online connection has been worse than other games. During one period I was constantly disconnected from servers without the game even giving me a hint of what might be the problem. All connections can't be expected to be perfect for gaming, but the software should tell you why a certain connection doesn't work. Maybe it's just something that has got to do with the fact that online gaming is a rather new field for PD still...

The paint chip system is cool I guess. There are some really nice colours and I like that there are metallics and pearls for instance. But sometimes it's annoying that you need to earn paint chips to be able to paint your car. Why can't I just head over to the paint shop and pay the people working there to paint my car in the colour of my choise? And why is the chip gone once I've painted the car?

General improvements that would raise the grade:

The track generator is great, I only wish it gave you more artistic freedom and not just random layouts based on the parameters you chose.

Weather and daylight transitions on all tracks would be fantastic.

Some sort of free roam mode would be great. For occasions when you want to drive that gorgeous car, but don't feel like racing. It doesn't have to be a huge space, if they could just open up the roads inside the Madrid and the London tracks it would provide some nice city driving. They could open up all variations of the Eiger track (just removing the barriers) to have a free roam mode there.

The inclusion of a livery editor would make me spend the rest of my life in front of my PS3 so maybe it's good that there is none... yet it doesn't stop me from wanting one :)

So, as a total the game gets 80 from me.

Nice review I agree but just want to give my two cents on paint chips system, I think they've done it they way they have so that everyone doesn't just paint all their cars gold chrome or something like that as it would look terrible, that said I don't like the current system and yearn for a decent custom livery editor and more rims and body kit options.

80%

10/10 game wrapped up in a 4/10 package. It had so much potential, but most of that fizzled out. Why couldn't it be more like an updated GT4 (or even GT3)?

You think everyone is a brain dead kid in all of your posts. :boggled:

Gave it a 40%. GT5 falls flat on just about every level. It's fun to play with friends, but that doesn't make the game itself enjoyable. By itself, GT5 is very boring, and even over a year later it still lacks many of the modern features we've come to expect from racing games. A lack of customization, poor UI, and very inconsistent visual quality really hurt what should have been a fantastic racing game; And that is just the tip of the ice berg. The list of baffling design choices still to this day hurt the game a lot.

GT5 is packed with simulation like features, but Polyphony Digital forgot to include gameplay along with it to actually give the player something to do. And certain parts of the game are still a downgrade over GT4.

I really hope GT6 is better.

80, I think that's fair as it's not a 10/10 game, but it's not a 2/10 either...

Great idea! And if you press "see poll results" button you can see people organized in groups:

- ultimate fanboys
- fanboys
- moderate fans
- complainers
- annoying kids
- scumbag steves
- trolls...
- etc..

Awesome! And very useful thanks.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the few who said 10 either have extremely low standards or are just KY and PD worshippers. I gave it a 6/10 and I have loved the GT series for the longest time. This game, could have and should have been great, but it fell way short in to many areas. Some aspects of it are simply amazing, but they do not override the many flaws that are present. The game just needs an overhaul.

Played it for countless hours, by that I mean spending more than an hour on a single driving license test, or special event and lots of online racing.. oh and I use a DFGT and a home-made stand lol

I give it a 90, it had everything I was hoping for and more. Definitely has its flaws but to me its a 90 still.

And the 34 people or so that have scored it 50 or lower have extremely high standards or are just trolls or fanboys of other games.

See how that works?👎
