When we finally get custom models in the PS2 and PS3 GT titles it will be a good day, but it is not this day.
It's such a shame that the GTPS2ModelTool made by Nenkai is still unfinished, and unless a programmer just as skilled as Nenkai picks it up and continues its development, it probably always will remain unfinished...

Early stages modding Isle of Man.

What? But, how? Is this for real? How did they manage to do that? Despite the hardcodes and the file formatting. Is it now possible to make custom tracks? Or is it an unused track that is modified? How? What? I'm confused.

I don't know how adding tracks is done. I just saw a Reddit post about some modded tracks and cars.

Apparently there is a private Discord server that I really wish I knew what is needed to get invited to it.

Not a fan of the fact that AI coded tools were used for both of these things. As far as I can tell they were just existing public knowledge plugged into LLMs with the express goal of importing one or two proofs of concept and no real understanding of what makes them work. Usually this sort of thing will get people's attention just enough to consider the problem "solved" and no attention will be paid to a proper solution, so overall it's a detriment to the game's modability.

If I am not wrong, I think for the GTPSP car models backported into GT4 apparently, they probably used Nenkai's incomplete GTPS2ModelTool for it. Either that, or maybe they used a fork of it using AI. I don't know. Either way, I'm sure the GTPS2ModelTool was involved in some way or another.

As I said, existing knowledge plugged into an LLM without any genuine development.

They've been shoving all of my personal research & tools into LLMs without my express consent and hoping it comes out with something useful due to desperation.
This would have been already achieved otherwise from me or anybody else otherwise, but we didn't make tools to apply that research because there is far more to be researched to get anything usable for any user, and that's ignoring all proper documentation that needs to be created.

Please do not give these videos any attention. They are not advancements by any means, and does nothing but contribute to the overall tainting of all the resources that are available and created by human beings and are verified to be correct.

Is there any way to add/restore tracks? like Complex String from Gran Turismo 3 to GT4 and several others? ..
Maybe, especially considering that somebody's recently backported the Minolta Toyota 88C-V, Nissan R92CP, Audi R8 LMP, Suzuka Circuit, and even Nürburgring Nordschleife into GT3.

Plus, I've heard that Smokey Mountain might have been ported into GT4 lately, but I'm not sure if it happened or if it's just baseless rumors. Either way, I am so glad to see such advances in this department of GT modding.

Like on these videos?

Yup. It's really exciting seeing how advanced GT Modding has become lately.
Yup, with the help of AI technology, everything's will be easier and faster.. also the Lancer WRC Prototype (which appeared 1st in GT3 and did not appeared on succeeding GT games) (the Evo 8 I guess, correct me please if I'm wrong can also be remade on this..)

I think it was actually the final Lancer Evo VII Rally Car from GT Concept that got ported into GT4, last time I heard. It was seen in some early beta GT4 screenshots from early-2003 by the way.

But yeah, imagine a Project A-Spec equivalent for both GT3 and GT4. That would be peak. I might even brainstorm a list of cars that might be added in such mods (if they ever will be a thing).

AI can be useful as an aid, but if you don't use it correctly, it generates a lot of slop and is highly inefficient. It will be interesting to see how much actual time and individual knowledge is being put into these mods or if they're just slop that can't be used for much good beyond a cool video. From what I understand, they're using AI to mess with other peoples tools rather than putting in any hard work themselves, I hope they prove me wrong.

That mod of Sonic the Hedgehog running around Test Course in GT4 is definitely made by AI tooling, and seeing how meme-like it is (having Sonic of all characters being driven/played around in GT4), and also how janky-looking that model of Sonic is in this, it was done just for show.

As for Orewa W's conversion mods (the ones with Minolta Toyota 88C-V at Nordschleife and Nissan R92CP at Suzuka), I don't think they were made using AI, and even if AI was used, maybe it was used properly and as an aid of some sorts, and not a low-effort AI slop. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Orewa W's work.

I'm yet to be convinced, as I'm not aware the tools exist to do what those videos show in a good way. At the moment I'd guess this works on emulation only and there's a hack for asset swapping that's going on. I'd be happy to be corrected on that, I'd like to see the tools they're using. But I'm going to guess that they don't want to share those, because they're someone else's that they've messed with without permission and used AI to fudge things in.

I still don't understand - what's the problem with using AI, does it spoil something or, as opponents say, "Devalues human labor"?
Two problems, one there's no skill and it's inefficient, so what you get is generally poorly coded and poorly optimised slop that's a mess to work with. Secondly, they're using it on other peoples tools without permission.

AI alone isn't the problem, it can be a useful tool to help you, but that's the clue, it can help you create something good. I manage a workflow management system as a minor part of my role, sometimes I ask AI to help me with a line of code or a formula I'm just struggling with, but that's a small piece of the larger jigsaw that I have strong knowledge of.

If I used AI to build the whole thing, a lot of it might work, but it would be inefficient and if I had to change something, insert a new process or fix a bug, it'd be a nightmare. With these mod, I believe (emphasis on believe), that they aren't being made in good faith or with permission of the authors of the tools they're using AI to mess with.

If someone makes something original with AI, that's well coded and isn't stealing other peoples work without permission, people may still have an opinion on that, but at least it's done in a better way.
