Gran Turismo 5 has almost raced to its finishing development stages. According to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, the game is just about ninety percent complete, which may be a reason for the game’s recent delay in Japan.

Speaking with USA Today at the Consumer Electronics Show, Yamauchi told the site: “About 90% of the game is done. We are just working on the last 10% and polishing up everything.”

Yamauchi also expressed his opinion the CES-boasted 3D technology and PlayStation 3’s upcoming motion controller.

“For 3D, I think our level of expression in that technology is not really complete yet. We still have a lot of work in development that has to poured into that field.

“As for motion control it is a brand new user interface. It really has infinite possibilities, of course, for the game industry and other industries. There is still a lot more development that needs to go into it but it’s a major possibility right now.”

What about motion control in Gran Turismo 5?

“It might be used to maybe control the user interface like you would a mouse, but that the extent we would use it for."
 
Interesting.

God imagine driving with the motion controllers! Its ok on Mariokart, but on GT? That would be funny. Glad they're not putting any effort into that as it would just fail lol.

5 years = 60 months

10 % of 60 months = 6 months

Maybe less if you substract all their little side projects from the 5 years.

Sorry but I'm not really understanding the 3D thing.. We can just buy the normal game minus the 3D stuff, correct?

Nope, usually the 80/20 rule applies. That means they did 80% of work in 20% of the time and do the last 20% of work in the remaining 80% of the time. :p :lol:

To be honest i think its the other way around, i think they dawdled for a couple of years then didn't really get down to the serious stuff until they got some extra cash from prologue :D
 
So they announced a released date for a month they knew the game won't be finished.
Doesn't make a lot of sense. It can't be 90%.

It just means the game is capable of outputting 3D, its just another format ( kind of like 1080p/720p ). It doesn't mean you have to use it.

It is a comforting thought knowing that GT5 is almost nearing the end of its long...long...very long production cycle. I have to admit that this gives me reason to assume that we will indeed get a very good quality game. I think GT fans should be excited by this statement, not only will you be able to enjoy the greatest racing game of all time, but this time it's not just going to be a gt4.5 :)

That's exactly right. There wont be a racing game as good as GT5 until GT6. And I can say this for sure.. as much as we do know and all what we've seen, we still have absolutely no idea just how awesome this game is going to be. As You said GT, It sure is a very comforting thought knowing that its 90%. or might aswell say it's finished because they're as Kaz said they're "just polishing it up"

Oh! and when we get it it's going to be like opening up all your Christmas presents on Christmas day as a 9 year old!!

could very well happen though but don't be sad: go play some GT1 and then you'll appreciate the effort :)

Get real guys. Remember when he said the game was basically finished and they could release whenever they wanted? This means absolutely nothing, and trying to read anything into this mystical 10% number that he's pulled out of thin air is an exercise in futility.

Sony is masterful at stringing people along without giving any real information whatsoever, and Kaz is playing along with them, whether willingly or not.
 
Hello again. I really enjoy reading all these threads in the forum, I really really love seeing that others besides me are so anxious for gt5 to be released.

First of all we have no idea what's going to be inside the game. Absolutely NO IDEA. From what we have, 1000 cars, 20 locations, 70 variations just imagine how much time has to be put in beta test in order to give the results wanted by the crowd. Besides all the time to model/program/record/whatever stuff, someone has to check everything in detail so that it lives up to the fans' expectations. That's LOADS of time. I work in 3d modeling and it's very time consuming even to check and compare your models to real life ones. Polishing is a very time consuming procedure..

I suggest that people are more patient, find another game to fill their time till gt5 comes out. I just met newer simbin games (I left them back to gtr2 age) and am really excited and they keep me occupied till the KING comes.

Till then I try to kill my appetite with gtplanet news :D

This 90% figure is suspect is nothing more than a figure of speech. I would take it that the game is in the final stages and more polish is needed to get the game to the necessary standards. That is why I think the release date was shelved. PD simply found they had more work to do that they could do in the time scale.

As I've not been following the March 31st release date press releases, I don't know what has and has not been said by whom. Has it been ruled out by Sony and PD that the game won't be released before March 31st? Wishful thinking on my part, but I like to stay optimistic ;)

OK so If the game came out on December, you would of say BOOOO @ unfinished game. I rater have wait month or two longer for polished complete game.

You don't know that, it's only a (very weak) rumour, please stop spouting it like it's a fact.
