What could the customization refer to?

I actually want custom to mean livery editor and perhaps body kits etc. Track editor is confirmed right?

I enjoy that part of forza where you could tune your car and paint it etc becuse the rest of the game was crap. *coff forza3pieceofcrap coff*

Btw, i am mainly a racer. But the real simulator cant be real if your cant do everything you can do in real life :P And i also think GT will get alot of new fans with stuff similar to forza. some just piant in forza and never races :O

Agreed, however, GT isn't the real racing simulator, so I guess it doesn't need to simulate anything other than driving.

You know, this is an interesting point. I know plenty of people who own 360's instead of PS3's, and they buy Forza, but are more casual gamers who are hooked not so much on the racing ("all racing games are the same"), but on the level of customization available to them.

As much as sim-lovers might balk at the idea of "appealing to the masses", hooking casual gamers with features they tend to view as important is a great way to get some awesome features for us as well. And call me crazy, but I'd rather have the level of customization that includes bodykits/pieces and a livery editor than a track editor...

Yes and why would the simulation part only extend to the racing/driving aspects?
Could be this whole customization aspect also works on different levels appealing to the casual gamer, a casual aspect to the sim-racer or a comprehensive "sim-like" main element to those who are either creative or just like to build/tune/modify cars in general.
Maybe it even creates a new type of snobbish hardcore "create and share sim"-lover who just frowns upon those who only use GT for racing.....;)

Although I would really love a track editor though.:)

When GT has that sort of customization than it has customization. Of course I don't want to ghettoize my car either

Look at this quote from the GT website.

Build a dream collection from over 1000 of the world's most exciting cars, from exotic imports to muscle cars and performance supercars, to customize, race, and upgrade.

I would think of "upgrade" as performance parts, and "customize" as visual modifications. What do you think?

Would be pretty neat if that's the case. At least, as long as the visual customisation would include stuff like bodykits to improve aerodynamics or even widebodykits... The stuff the tuned cars in GT5P could be a hint at, basically :D

Thinking of that Midnight Club LA pic, I spent much more time, almost the majority of the time just customizing my cars and painting than time actually racing (due to the horrible arcade physics). Another aspect of customization that I love is the ability to make cars that weren't already included in the game. For example, I took the Corvette Z06 and painted carbon fiber trim on it, added some ZR1 badges, added a small spoiler and hoodscoop, new exhaust, changed out the rims, increased horsepower and a new model of car was born.

Meh, I don't take it to mean much. They did afterall say this about GT4:

"All vehicles are fully customizable from tire pressure, ride height to gear ratio."

...and this about GT2:

"All vehicles are totally customizable".

So really, it's up in the air as to what exactly it might mean so far :-/.

Analog - 👍

I must have missed something major in GT4 because I don't remember being able to change tire pressure?

I think a lot of you have let the forza series warp your minds. I highly doubt there will be body mods in the forza sense. Id even be surprised in a robust livery editor. Gt games of past have offered performance part bolt ons, rims, wings, and if you go way back to gt 1, a special race package that gave your car a body kit race look of sorts. I think possibly in my opinion that the so called "concept by gran turismo" might be something similar to that, which is fantastic to me. I really don't see polyphony digital making a forza remake. This is about the sport of racing not fast and the furious.
So just because Forza has bodykits available it's suddenly F&F? :boggled: I'm all for extensive customisation options, including bodykits. 👍 And as it happens, the tuned cars in Prologue already had bodykits, so I guess you should be hating on that game too.

I must be completely mad, because I want a Track Creator. But then, I want all the above so I must have a particularly mad case of madness. :D

you can't. Nor can you complete customize your car in GT2. It's called a lie.

Well... back in the day, GT2 had wayyyy more in depth customization (interchangeable with the word tuning and modifying) than most of the other big racing titles of the same day.

Turbos, engine modifications, lightening, full engine rebuilds, tire choices, wheel choices, suspensions tunes, gearing and racing modifications.

Since the dawn of Need for Speed Underground though, what was once considered a thorough tuning/modifying/customization system was rendered obsolete. Now everyone expects body kits, paints and livery etc.

Just trying to put the words into the context of the time is all, back in the day, GT2 was explosive in it's innovation.

Aha! I feel the same way. I feel the track editor will simply be used to delegate drivers to use the layouts of existing tracks, instead of making items from scratch.

Ex: Imagine having Daytona Road, but without the little notch on the backstretch. It would change how a professional would prepare for the track completely. Now you have to take into account for a huge amount of time spent at wide open throttle going top speed around most of the track. Or alternatively, imagine having Daytona Speedway with the little notch. Now you're spending most of your time at top speed, then once each lap you have to slow alll the way down for one little section only to speed right back up again.

I didnt enjoy Forza as much as any of the GT series. I love racing and thats the main thing in GT games. But it would be also a nice touch to it if you could change livery and perhaps some small exterior changes.

Where did anybody say they'd want that in place of proper tuning?

I love the more proper tuning in full GT games, but having some visual differentiation would be incredibly handy in online races.

CoolCol, did you not grab the free car pack for PSP?

It's in there. If you mean that white portion along the side, you're the one posting grabs from a video... you know it's a reflection.

Yep. I'm at work or I'd post a screenie, but :55 shows it.

It still looks to me like that is white paint. I know what you're talking about, when the car rolls forward the white area gets larger toward the front, but to me it looks like the door is already white and then a reflection goes on top of it. Something like that.

Agreed. Still not concrete, though, eh? :indiff:

I suppose. Though that's like saying the Cizeta in the video has a white wing ;).

It just seems incredibly unlikely that out of that entire intro (for PSP no less), there's a one-second example of... perhaps a livery editor? I wish it would show a different environment, since we have no idea what the reflections are even supposed to look like.

(EDIT) Don't get me wrong, I am really, really hoping for a livery editor of some kind.

If they dont bring Livery + customization they could at least bring back the R-tunes! Level3 Weight redux+80k gets you a race trim for most cars.

A good compromise would be a Track editor coupled with R-Tunes with custom colors and numbers just to shake it up.

Although best scenario would be Track edi + Livery + customization.

I wouldn't consider a track editor to be a compromise, if anything it would be a revolution and not at all linked in any way to customization of the cars.

In that case, so am I!

I am crazy too.
In real life its easier to customize a car rather then build a track.
That way there will be 1000s of unique cars for GT5s Garage Sale, paint your car for your teams colors and stickers etc.
With track editior, take MOD NATION RACERS for example, there is a million tracks to choose, most of them you wont even drive twice. So what is the point? Everyone would only end up playing the custom tracks because the forums have a championship and the member has to have good reputation and creative skills to create a great race course.

So from my crazy mind...
If PD had to choose only one of the features for GT5 it should be customizable vehicles. But, if they can choose the two, why not?
