What could the customization refer to?

Kaz showed a slide with number-plate editor listed as a potential feature for GT5 a LONG time ago. I can see obvious reasons they might've decided to exclude it though. I would really like my flag and PSN / Name printed on my car too, as they do with drivers names on race cars. This would be a really really nice detail I think. Could even have multiple names for team enduros :D

That would be cool, I love that feature in LFS. Tiny detail that a lot of people don't even notice.

on the theme of customization, what companies do you think will be incorporated in GT5?

Volk? Work? O.Z? BBS? I hope they have loads of them, maybe they still have licenses from GT4 so we will see the same companies/wheels?

The obvious reasons being inappropriate or offensive names or words I assume?
Although that undoubtedly will happen, it's already apparant when racing online in Prologue whereby questionable PSN usernames are depicted above the cars ( and in other games ofcourse ).
At least those depicted on a number plate are much smaller and PD may include an arbitrary ingame language filter as the PSN username doesn't appear to have many restrictions at all, there were quite a few Hitler's something I've had the questionable 'privilege' of encountering online.

Yes it wouldn't be hard to add a filter. You could use this feature to add clan names etc

I don't see why not. In my book, the wheels and tires are a given, but I would like to see some licensed aftermarket companies for body kits and tuning in GT5 though.

Tyre choice would be new. It's so little to ask for really, but I'd be somewhat surprised if we get it. I dunno why, it's just that the GT series has been running with basically the same features in this area since GT2. Even the freedom to repaint cars is going to take some getting used to! :odd:

re. the language on number plates - I guess the difference is the PSN name is out of PD's hands. People creating offensive messages within the game is slightly different.

Yes it is slightly different but the end result ( being visible for all who use GT5 ) is similar I guess.
Having said that, it might actually be a potentially much bigger concern if it isn't limited to only one name like a PSN username but each player having multiple possibilities on each car they own ( and can change them more easily than creating a new username ).
Still think it could be possible, there are more games which have this option ( Mafia 2 for example ) and they've found a way to implement it.
Or similar to the option often mentioned when debating a livery editor, a "do not display" option for those who wish to protect kids or are easily offended in general.

More wheel selections within a car brand, sometimes their is other wheels, say BMW that make a variety of wheels that you would want to place on your car other than the standard installed ones. So not just aftermarket wheels. :)

Makes sense, maybe selecting them as options when you buy a new car in the dealer section ( or afterwards like the aftermarket wheels in GT-Auto but perhaps only available at the dealer ).

^ Yep. A while ago I made a topic about car configurations. Some cars have a LOT of different options, including wheels. All this is part of the buying experience, and it seems a shame for it to be missed. For example, you can buy the R8 with body-colour, aluminium or carbon fibre side strake thing.

We may need to distinguish between car configuration ( or specification ) which is indeed the ( real life ) choices offered by the dealers/manufacturers themselves ( which I really would like to see appear, not just choosing colour combinations ) and the aftermarket conversions made possible ( bodykits/ wheels/paintshop, etc. ) in GT5.
Both are strictly speaking customization ( although one is merely choosing the same 'limited' options available to all without being a personal 'custom' choice like paintshop offers ) I guess but it would be nice to have both options and not like GT4 where it made no difference if you tuned your car in the dealer section or in the tuning shop/GT Auto.

In the GT Auto screen shot (with the R8), at the menu I swear I thought I saw something livery-related for the last option (was on my iPod, so I zoomed in far).

But It's nice to see a track editor-even if it's basic. Provides people with the ability to test cars out for different situations.

Very true! :D when i first heard about the track editor i wasn't very interested, but then i thought of the things you could do, create a track made to test handling, top speed, both. It just sounds really great :)

That is most likely the racing modification option.

I'm pretty sure the customization is gonna be for the track editor or body parts. Either way, I know I'm gonna be making quite a few touge courses with the track editor.

BBS, OZ, VOLK/RAYS, KÖNIG, I Forged etc etc they must (and i think) they will include all these type of sets. What i wish for doe is that they include some companys speciallized on a specific car manufacture like Carlsson, Brabus, for Mercedes. Or MTM, ABT for Audi, Breyton for Bmw and so on. Thats asking for much i know, but you can always wish. =)

I'm pretty sure we will get after market parts, there already is major tuning brands in the game (based on GT4) and then from the screenshot on GT5's customization, I saw some VOLK Racing CE28's :)

I wouldn't be surprised in terms of wheels that we get loads of different brands, but I feels it is very important we get branded body parts.

Behind the name of the car it says " 19INCH WHEEL OPTION ", do you guys think we will be able to select the size of the rims?

I do not know, beccause in Prologue there was Option as well. Like for the mustang, it said Premium Option, but id did not have the () marks in Prologue, so I hope so!!

I fear it's a different "trim" counting as a different car.
Not that I'm against this practice, but the story is different when there will supposedly be "200+" premium cars.

Maybe when you buy the car from the dealer, there are certain factory options.

I think the + in "200+" or "800+" is the different variations, like there are 200 individual different premiums, then the + is the different versions, like i remember the skyines had the Nur editions and such :)

I hope it's as you say, but I doubt it will be the case in the final build. In GT games, variations have always counted as different cars. GTPSP is a good example of this. The official site advertises it as having "over 800 cars".

didnt they say track editor ?

i hope this anyone who wants to know if gt5 has a track editor because in the extended information it says it will have a track editor/ creator, just think if it's on the gt website and on the gamestop website then why wouldn't they have a track editor in gt5??

here's the links:

On the Mustang GT, Ford used the term Premium to represent the car with all 'The Works', 18" wheels, full leather interiors, etc,. As term is used in GT, now means something different. Thus leading to some confusion. :)

I think I said this 6 years ago when we first talked about the OPTION stuff in the SLR's name but in 2009 the 19" turbine wheels were standard while the 18" wheels were optional. Makes no sense to list standard wheels as an option.

I think the + means that there are more than 200 premiums and more than 800 standards. like 207 and 804.
