Venari played the 3D build. He described it as looking pretty much the same, but the dashboard of the XJ13 he was driving had incredible depth, with shadows being cast behind the wheel very clearly.

great...but....framerate?

i´ve played Wipeout in 3D yesterday on a 46" Samsung 3D TV, it was nice.. the framerate was smooth and ok (no lag)
but i was not realy impresed!
so i don´t exept to much from the 3D implementation!

Just got back from two days at the GamesCom. My hearing is slowly returning now, what a blast!

There are about 15 racing pods, but not the fancy ones with the circular contraption around it. Some of the TVs were in demo mode and showed the TV's features on screen (alternating between top and bottom). Only one setup had the two-minute time limit and we used that one for the sound recordings, because the waiting times were much shorter (unfortunately this TV was also in demo mode). As Alba said, most of the people were trying the Nurburgring (24h and Nordschleife) and with no time limit, the waiting could be really long at times (each run was limited to two laps though). For someone not used to GT5 even one lap around the NS can take forever! :dopey:

The FFB on the wheels was good and I think it realy is a good wheel. Not so sure about the pedals, but then I'm spoiled with a G25. :sly:

Only one thing disappoints me with this GT5 build: There is still a lot of image tearing, especially at low speeds.

Now for the good stuff, where to begin? OK, the AI are impressive. They can be ruthless, but also timid. And they make mistakes, for example by braking too late and (almost) lose control of the car. In the SLS AMG demo it was suicide to even slightly tap another car on the rear bumper, you would spin-out immediately (looked like a tryout for a new penalty system). This was not the case in the demo used at the GC, now if you tap another car behind one of the rear wheels, that car will spin out, not you (just like the cops do in a car chase).
I did all my races in pro mode and that meant also the AI were pro's and were very hard to keep up with on these new tracks (for me, and having no sound did not help either). There was no indication what so ever of rubber banding, so spinning out means you have to do your darnest best to try and catch up.

We posted earlier today that the AI will back up and swerve around a car that is stuck on a wall (good thing that not everybody knows that the triangle is for reverse). I must add to that, that it took quite a while for the AI to decide that that car wasn't getting out of the way anytime soon (something like 10 seconds). The AI car wasn't trying to push the stuck car out of the way, but it was just waiting patiently at a meter distance. 👍

I got to do one lap around Rome (man, I love that track, must be my favorite for now) with the headphones and everything got together. I loved it, really loved it. I used the GT-R and it has that deep rumble as in real life. The music was on (no way to turn it off), so I wasn't able to hear any car noises besides the 'normal' engine noise. When Alba gets the videos up tomorrow you can hear for yourself. Here is a picture of him at work: ;)

I'm sure I haven't shared all my experiences yet, and I will post them when they resurface in my mind. :)

A few more pictures: The blue flag (we did see a white flag also today), the result of some nice donuts I did yesterday and one of Zocker racing a TT event on GT5 Prologue (which he won, and should, because he also won the German GT Academy and went to the finals).

One more thing: I should have brought my TomTom when I went on the TopGear track, I had no idea what so ever where I was going. And that for someone who watches every new show on BBC2 on Sunday nights. (perhaps I should have used that driving line....) :dunce:

I'm back! Just need to hook up my camera and start transferring to my dad's PC then mine since I don't have the proper jack for it lol. Time to check out the sounds I captured from my laptop on my pc with proper headset on! Weee, today was a blast :D

Was great working with you today Alba. Well, you working, me having fun behind the wheel. :sly:
Greatly appreciate all the effort you have put into this and will put into it for the video's. It also was very nice meeting you. 👍

Nice, nice, nice!!! Hey alba, could you tell us how much vids you have and how many minutes of footage they combine? (but don't tell WHAT you recorded, will spoil the surprise)

25mins of footage total since we used the 2 minutes time limit pod which helped record faster since people would come and go faster as well :)

I think after Denur left we did as much if not more with Andreas and he's had some prior footage taken as well so you can expect quite a lot!

Edit: Checked a few audio files properly, some are good some are average and then you have some where the audio jack was touching my arm a bit which causing a bit of disturbance but at least we got sounds. I'm gonna order them now and then pull the stuff from the camera and start all that tomorrow!

Yep I know, I told you that JUST before you gone offline. Seriously, that was crazy, I wanted to give you the tip, saw that you were online and hurried up with my massage and thought all the time: don't go offline, don't go offline and after having send it to you I saw that you DID went offline in that few seconds I was writing the messega.

edit: sorry for double post

Fellas, thanks for going and collecting this precious, precious info. Alba especially for going to those lengths to get sound! You're the man!

What screen tearing?

And those tyre marks look increadible, almost too good to be true !

There are still a few graphic issues, but then again this is still WIP and not a release intended for the public, aka downloadable demo. The Bravia screens didn't impress me that much to be honest, but I guess there was little chance Sony choosing any other brand/model ;)

hey guys sorry i didnt now where to put this cause i dont have the persmission for creating a new thread... anyway, anybody of you believes this was made in gt5 engine? since bmw is on borad.. graphicwise it looks a lot like GT 5.. here is the link:

pls comment...

PS: sorry for my englisch, and sry for my avatar.. i like^^

That's the name of the 5-series hatchback version and you might indeed wish to change your avatar as it insults every single person here.

I had the same feeling and hope that a better TV will get rid of some of the issues.

From what I understand, in order to avoid tearing, V-sync has to be used. But to be implemented correctly, the frame rate has to be absolutely stable otherwise in case of very little slowdowns in effective framerate, the displayed framerate would be halved for a split second giving a feeling of jerkiness.

I wonder if at 1280x720 Vsync will be activated in GT5.
The Full-HD resolution (1280x1080 in GT5) may be pushing the PS3 too far and some compromises might have had to be reached to use it, by disabling Vsync in this resolution for example.

Uploading a sample of the sounds I recorded (karts) No videos for now, I'll do that tomorrow but at least you get what kind of sounds we got.

Karting sounds

So tomorrow I'll have the hazardous task to edit and synchronize the video & the proper sound and make sure they're as close as possible. Wish me luck, lol.

Quick comment on the screen tearing, there appeared to be two PS3 models being used. The slim and one which seemed to have a flat top. Maybe test units? I only noticed tearing on the ones with flat tops.

You are a cruel man ;)

Personally, I really wouldn't mind just the audio with a still screen grab. That's just me, others might think different.

Nice beard by the way :sly:

Can you make all of your video links on one page once you finish doing it? thanks. Any more sounds that will surprise us?

Many thanks!
The engine appears to sound fairly realistic. The general impression at medium-high rpm is good while at lower ones I can't help but feel that there's something wrong, but I'm not a 2 stroke engine expert so I cannot give any definite judgement on it.
Tire sounds spoil everything as usual, in my opinion.
