Here's another idea.

Disc 1: Gran Turismo 5
Disc 2: Gran Turismo The Movie
Disc 3: Gran Turismo The Animated Series

Also, GT5 is going to require the Eye Toy because how the game works is kinda like The Eye Of Judgment... you buy a real car, and when it's in front of the camera, it appears in the game!

Not a bad idea. I might pay to see a movie of Gran Turismo.

Is everyone here really convinced that the game will need 2 or 3 disks for all the modes and features? I honestly think that box set is some kind of special edition with lots of special literature or swag. I dont even think gt5 will use all 50gbs.

Look at the video and you will see that only 1 of the cases is clear and has writing and a logo on it. The red and blue ones so not have that writing or a clear case. If you look at other ps3 games on the market you will notice that they are all clear. So I think the clear case on its own will be regular and the other 2 are part of a special edition.

Disc 1: GT 5 game disc
Disc 2: "Making of" documentary
Disc 3: GT 1/2/3/4, the second coming of Jesus, all questions in the Universe will be answered.

.. or maybe GT mode is so huge it has to be over 2 discs, then Aracde mode will be on the 3rd disc. Perhaps.

That would require loads of races, since every event would only need a few kB to specify:
-Track
-Laps/time
-Allowed Cars
-Types of cars to race against
and maybe:
-Time of day
-weather condition

Let's say that each event will need 100kB (which is a high estimate), then to fill 50 GB would take 500000 events, which I think is a bit much...

Edit: This is assuming all the cars, tracks and code are stored on disc 1, so not duplicate

Don't forget the event image... :p
But still, GT Mode doesn't need two discs.

There are some games that would make crap movies. Gran Turismo is one of them, and therefore you shouldn't try to make a movie of it. What are you going to do for a plot?

i've got a genius idea. it's about an amateur racer's rise to the top! could be awesome. :D

A crappy driver starts out in an amateur league. He has a crappy car, a crappy girlfriend, a crappy life. He meets this knowledgeable man who helps him out some. Then he starts to get better. Fans start to like him. The races get better, so do the cars! He meets a hot babe at the concession stand=winner!!

I think Toca did this already...

IGN: "Recently we saw a video of the Gran Turismo box with multiple discs. What exactly is on those discs?"

Kazunori Yamauchi: [Laughs] "That's something else we can't really talk about yet, but I'm surprised at the level of detail everyone is focused on."

These 5-6 months will drag on.

Surprised at the level of detail? We only express the same attention to detail as you do in your games

May have already been suggested, but because of the memory constraints involved, could one of the discs be the rumoured track editor as a stand alone system? like the 2 discs in GT2 had arcade on one and gt mode on the other?

Could there be a single disc and a 3-disc version?

Fifth wind says that reunion will happen in two forms, one greater than other and bird tamers will have freedom to decide which reunion they will attend. Greater reunion will ask for great sacrifice to be made in order to get all present and future treasures without new sacrifices needed, while smaller reunion will come in form already known, asking for more sacrifices if future treasures catches the eyes of the bird tamers.

Disc 1: Tracks & Skylines
Disc 2: Includes tuner Skylines
Disc 3: Includes bonus video about how they contributed to the Skyline's entertainment thingy.

The game is going to be HUGE from the start, with everything there. So, the track editor suggestion seems silly. It'll probably be collectible stuff, as usual. A keychain, a small signed picture or a code for a car. Probably 4 or 5 goodies in those canisters.

Edit (about everything being included on day 1): "“Let me be clear on this. There is a massive amount of content in this game, I don’t think there are many teams that put as much into a game as we can. The launch of the game isn’t a start, we are releasing a full game. Everything we want to put into the game is on the disc when it ships. Having said that, we do have a sizeable online team that will look after it once it’s launched.”-Kazunori Yamauchi

After thinking about it, the game could be approaching 50gb or more. Looking through my SHIFT folder, most the cars are 25-30mb and tracks 50mb ish and they aren't massively high res. I believe high res versions of cars and tracks in GTR are often larger than that. My RACE07 data in steam (includes STCC and Evo, but not Race ON) is around 5gb, and that game only has 50 cars and from memory about 20-30 tracks. Imagine 20 times as many cars and maybe double the tracks, it'd be quite large.

Disk 1- GT5 in full, all singing all dancing
Disk 2- GT1-4 with a track editor
Disk 3- Making of and all GT TV content plus a bonus of all the GTs sound tracks

I think that is a very healthy attitude, especially in this day and age (EA and T10, I'm looking at you!). 👍

EA and T10 can't help that the Xbox360 "only" has a DVD-drive.
But I agree when it comes to the PS3. I'm not an expert on the PS3 hardware but I think that you should be able to compress textures and sound with no ill effect. Even use 5.1 Dolby TrueHD och DTS-HD Master Audio. All that and the game should be able to fit on one BR-disc.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this , but I picked up a pamphlet from my work's home entertainment section in a store in australia, its a Sony playstation Pamphlet ;), and it has Gran turismo 5 confirmed along with GOW III and heavy rain as early 2010 games, dont know what others think of that, it is an official sony piece of paper, and if anyone wants ill scan it and post it as proof.
