Do you know how many games have work in progress boxes?
This in the video looks like a promo package, they also had stuff like this on the TGS afaik. I dont know whats on the discs, but i seriously doubt that they have the box finished 6 months before the release.

Not to mention that i also doubt that they need more than 50GB for the game, seriously.

I agree this is a promo box, but my point is that they will have agreed on a box format for the game (number of discs etc) before mocking up physical boxes. Why would they mock up a three disc box if the game was only being released on one disc? Therefore, apart from the front cover, this box is done.

Because the discs contain different stuff, maybe even completely different builds of the game. I could imagine that these are discs for debug units to test and show early assets. Like one disc has the Nürburgring SLS build, one disc has the TGS build and the other one an alpha version of the whole game or something (examples).

This is no indication that GT5 will be out on 3 BDs, which i still doubt is needed anyway.

The actual GT5 game will only be on 1 BD...sure

second disc: Making of Gran Turismo series and in-depth tuning tutorial

third disc: GT 1-4 and TT (!)

....no.

I don't think this is a final design either, but 3 discs would make sense:

disc 1 Arcade Mode / Online
disc 2 GT Mode
disc 3 Online / Content

That way the issue GT4 had because of double layer making it hard to actually read for many PS2s would be solved. :scared:
I really think double layer isn't the best thing for consoles, just my opinion though.

A lot of games this generation are dual layer, Uncharted 2 and MGS4 are both dual layered. The PS3 can read quad layer BDs, so it wouldn't be a problem.

I'll repeat...

EVERYTHING to do with the game in terms of modes (like a "mode" adds so much more space...), and other assets will be on ONE single 50GB Blu-ray. I can quite easily see their being a "Making Of..." etc. disc being included, along with a very hefty manual to go along with it.

Have to agree with you about the single disc.

Maybe there will be two versions (Premium, with nascar, wrc, etc & a standard edition) of the game, but both will run on one disc. It would be a shot in the foot for Sony to use multiple discs, GT5 is one of the few games thats really going to show how much can fit onto one Blu-ray disc. Its Sony's party piece.

As for the manual, maybe, the making of in HD, probably, although im leaning more towards one the three being what i would really love, a really good compilation CD.

The tunes from GT5 on CD. Means i can take the tunes im racing to in game with me in my real car. Some of the music used in the latest trailers has been fantastic.

It's obviously the multi-screen edition:
- The game
- The game
- The game

They should offer a 3 PS3s bundle along with it!

(Just kidding...)

That would be cool I have to admit!

One thing is for sure that that there won't be a install option on game as copying bluray to HD is out of the question.

Someone here said that is how GT5p worked from the blu-ray disk. I can't confirm since I bought the digital version.

So far the PS3 doesn't allow you to swap discs over (admittedly this is but a firmware tweak away)
Yes, it does. Singstar has allowed disc swapping for over a year now, including PS2 discs on non-backward compatible PS3s.

Only problem is, if you crash listening to one of the tracks, the media will have a field day pointing out that GT5 made you crash. :grumpy:
I hope not. I still listen to my GT2 soundtrack.

Looking at that pic you can clearly see the top disc is Gran Turismo 5. And the other 2 dics are not labeled which means its either blu rays dvd's or cd's.

Just extra content videos, making of artwork ect.

very exciting !

definitly will ship for more than 70$, you cant expect 10 hours gameplay in uncharted to be the same price as 200/300h for GT5.

150GB in 5 years seems unreal though :D

to comment on another part of that video, that statement :

Gran Turismo uses one single physics calculation model, so they simply enter the parameters for each car, and the handling characteristics play themselves out within the game. As Yamauchi says, “If the original car is made well, it’ll drive well.”

wasn't it how it was done before ? i mean i'm a third year automotive engineering student, and the handling equations you just plug in weight, suspension design etc and you get car behavior, it only seems logical to have it like that, and not design a behavior for 1000 cars. a bit OT but in that video so pardon me

Can't you see only ONE of those boxes is grey and with the game title on the side? THAT would be GT5.

I think I'm going to be cautious, how old is this video, before E3?, are they still modeling Nurburgring Nordschleife?.
I suspect the box art is early mock-up, kind of bland.:grumpy: In the end it may ship with maybe two discs. Should they still be
modeling tracks such as Nurburgring at this point if the game was originally going for a 4th quarter release of this year.

:)

1. GT Arcade
2. GT Simulation
3. GT car wash/detailing or Photo

Idk, if you pause the video when the spine side of the individual cases are partly shown you can clearly see only one of them is Black(like ps3 games) and only the black one has any writing on the spine(Gran Turismo 5).

So i think that Black must be Game disc, and the others are extras, making of's, the museum content, GTTV content perhaps.

You mean grey/transparent (bottom), the piece of paper that covers the plastic box is black...

Another vote for no way the game spans 3 BDs... there may be 3 discs but the sheer amount of content needed to require more than 1 BD seems totally unreasonable considernig what we are dealing with.

From my thoughts.

the Top Black one is the game itself. A blu-ray disc can have more then 2 layers, and PS3 can read more then 2 layers(that is confirmed), so no need to have game on separate discs.

The Red and Blue Discs may be behind the scenes. Maybe Red Could be something like GT-TV and Blue could be how game was made.

What The_Paladin mention sounds good too, One case could be Manuals and Pictures or posters that PD took while in Photomode.
