Road elevation might also a contributing factor in the demo gif. When a car dives into a corner that has a rise or dip, it will make it more prone for the bumper or splitter to scrape the road surface.

This was posted before, but I"ll quote it, the R33 in the video dives into downhill corner and the front splitter scrapes the ground.


Have you ever driven a car hard enough in real life that the front splitter gets scraped or cracked ? It does happen.

Starts at 1:40 till the end, the Hosaka Tuning Factory R33 GTR front splitter scrapes under hard braking and this is a track tuned car with very hard springs F 18 kg and R 16 kg. Tsuchiya really pushed the car hard into very corner, now imagine that R33 GTR with stock springs :)

I noticed you can't over-rev the engine. Downshifting from 5th to 1st at high speed is no problem, something is magically protecting the engine. Drivetrain inertia might be a little too low, very quick throttle response but also very little engine braking.

Driving techniques like flatshifting, revmatching on downshifts, downshifting without clutch, either do not work the way they would in the real car (when in "manual" clutch mode) or are simply made obsolete by just using the paddleshift mode.

I think there hasn't been done anything to introduce a proper drivetrain simulation, clutch and gearbox still act the same way as in GT5.

Of course the better suspension, tire and aero simulation is important for every player but not only H-shifter and clutch users would have welcomed improvements on the drivetrain part.

The GT6 demo has full drive-train braking now if you use clutch, if you use paddle-shift there is no effect it just bounces of the limiter.
When in clutch mode if you change down too early instead of it bouncing off the rev limiter it will lock the driven wheels and make you skid or spin off (without even a touch of the brake pedal).
It has huge engine braking potential for handling using clutch gears.
But unfortunately this advantage is neutralised if you use the brakes, as the stopping distances are the same or even worse compared to paddle-shift.

Clutch is disabled on the 370z Academy trial, and on the GTR which is paddle shift only. You can only use it on the 370Z on the club race.

Try going down the main straight on grand valley speedway. In paddle-shift from 100mph dont touch brake just go quickly as possible down through gears, nothing happens your speed just drops gradually. But do it in clutch mode and you can instantly lock the wheels at 100mph and crash out, if you drop to too low a gear, or do it a bit more slowly, progressively down the gears, and go down to about 5mph very quickly.
Its completely different physics.

I can't wait for GT6 after playing around with the Leaf and the 370Z around Autumn Ring Mini and Grand Valley East reverse.

Low powered light cars with narrow tyres will be great fun in GT6 and braking with ABS1 is so much better than in GT5. The front end of the 370 goes light under braking for the final corner at Grand Valley reverse, I've even got it to weave around if I brake at an angle. It is very good if that is in GT6. I hope they don't go back to the GT5 way.

Wow, thanks for clearing that up! I would never have thought there would be a difference in engine braking having "clutchmode" on or off so I only did the downshift-at-100mph-thing once without clutch.

The GT-R being paddle shift only makes perfect sense of course. Was it like this in GT5 too or could you use H-Shift in any car? I can't remember since I used paddles most of the time.
 
I can't get over how much I love the new physics, GT6 can't release soon enough. Love the suspension physics, cars tilting left and right whenever I turn them, I even soemtimes imitate it as well. :D GT5's physics can't even compare....

You could use the H pattern but not the clutch, clutch was disabled.

To be honest, as much as the new physics is nice, didn't any of you get a bit frustrated because its harder to drive? Also, anyone know how to change MPH to KPH?

I find it a lot easier than GT5 :)

To change to kmh, change the in game language options to greek, or change the XMB language to a country that uses KPH, and set in game to use XMB language.

I would agree.

From what's been seen, the car in GT6 is basically scraping the front bar (the actual painted section, not the black flaps) in the same situation.

That said, in more neutral situations (i.e mid corner instead of diving into a corner) it's body roll does appear to be about the same. So, I was somewhat wrong but the car is diving a lot more than what is seen in that real life photo.
Its also cornering a lot harder by the looks of it in the .gif that sparked this in comparison to the picture, yet the difference in dive is not huge between the two.

Your original comment came across as if (along with a number of others) you were implying that the spring rates were totally out and/or the physics engine was dealing with them in a totally inaccurate manner, and that simply is not the case. Its not perfect still, but right now its far, far better than GT5 and its also better than any of the console competition currently available.

Nope I find it easier, the car actually reacts far more like it should in reality now, which for me is easier.

Ok here is the video I made, rough quality but you can see what I'm doing. I only lost control when I hit the grass at the start or when I finally pushed it too hard and too sharp an angle. Otherwise though this was all easy to catch and It doesn't seem right to me.

 
I found it somewhat harder & frustrating because a) not used to it and b) I'm using a ds3 and it seems to be a bit harder to get used to the new physics than a wheel.
But all in all good physics, would be better if it had a free mode, mind you, you can always turn around and do Silverstone in reverse. I'm eager for GT6 to come out in december (I think that's when it comes out???)

Good sports cars that are well balanced are easy to catch, actually very very easy. The car actually catches itself, you just need to be there to accompany it. The old BMW M5 although a heavy car is very easy to drift. There is a video on youtube with a georgian guy who drifts an M5 through other cars, look very easy and controllable, he never once feels unsafe when drifting. You won't see such great drifting even in movies.

Just write "BMW M5 Tbilisi" on youtube.

I agree that the videos are scary. But that's not the point. An easy to drift car is an easy to drift car no matter what the context. I just wanted to point out that there is nothing unrealistic about the 370Z being easy to catch in a drift. That BMW M5 has almost 2 tons and not so much power back then and yet it drifts so easy and controllable it looks almost arcadey like.


P.S. Plus if you're driving with the d-pad to catch a drift is easier, with a wheel not so easy because there is no help from the automatic steering, it's just you.

All i'm saying is if you want to use a video to show me what I was doing is realistic choose one that doesn't feature a moron because I'm not watching it.
 
Samus Fine, suit yourself. But I think you're being a drama queen here, the fact that he's drifting in the streets has nothing in common with the fact that the car is... simply drifting. You can rest assured, though, he's not drifting anymore, his car got into an accident while him being in the back seat, the driver is fine, but he died. Now can you watch the video?
 
No, I won't. Surely if what I was doing is so common you could find other videos.
 
Samus I have no desire in proving anything to you, I don't look up on internet for videos because I have nothing else to do, I just remember these videos because they are different, and informative at the same time. It shows what masterpiece of a car the old M5 is. The Nissan 370Z is very good too, the reviews tell it is a very good sports car because the chassis of the car is well balanced. There is another car with a great chassis that is easy, easy to drift which is Toyota GT86. It is so manageable exactly because of the chassis balance.

Actually the video is pretty good to show what you want to say about car's balance. For the drama queens - the guys is dead now anyway.

Back on topic, I'm very impressed with the body roll I've seen in the videos, it's not perfect, but it's the best I've personally seen from a console game. Unfortunately I can't actually play the demo because my PS3 YLoD-ed on me.

Which proves that you need skills to drift anything, it's not as easy as it looks.

Actually, this is what I wanted. While hard tire compounds give me fits, as I posted earlier, the new physics reflect actual car dynamics so much better. I can certainly understand the choice of hard compounds because the purpose of the demo is to weed out contenders for GT Academy, and that sure does the job well. But it's making me hungry to try out the other tire makes and compounds. Darn, if only...

CoolColJ's torture test videos display a car that behaves very close to the ballistics of a real one. To be honest, I wish PD would go a little farther into simulating physics as I feel that Forza and especially Live For Speed are just a smidge better still - haven't tried iRacing yet. Though that might require the raw computing power of PS4 to take it to the next level, especially with 16 cars online. But the more I race in the demo, the more I love the new physics.

As posted before, the new engine is likely going to make the Nordschleife a whole new experience. I can hardly wait for fall! :D
