Kaz has the car companies modelling cars for him now (Vision GT). And by the looks of the only next gen racing game we have seen, PD already have it covered.
I thought I read something last year that said PD does NOT get any cad information or anything of the sort from the car companies. Which is odd and makes no sense, since the car companies want their cars represented as accurate as possible. BUT, if it's true, that's the only thing I can think of that would explain why we *still* have standard cars...

As far as I'm concerned, GT7 better not have standard cars. If they can't do it right, don't do it at all.

They do receive cad information. But they don't actually use that model in game. They more than likely use it as a reference when they make the car.We still have standard cars because the guys at PD simply didn't want them to go to waste and let the fans play with their favorite cars from previous games..Or if you want to be more pessimistic to pad the car count.

They all look the same in the rear view mirror

Thats the thing, don't notice them up front.

Well maybe I'd rather have a few hundred standards than not having those cars at all in the game.. It would take years to make more than 1000 cars into premium cars and they'll probably just evolve through time with more and more premium cars.

from gt website http://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/products/gt6/cars/
In recent years, CAD data of actual cars are often provided to Gran Turismo thanks to our strong partnerships with automotive manufacturers and as a consequence, the time to understand the design of the car has been drastically reduced. The same cannot be said for the development time: a model will still take 6 months to create, and that is because the time and costs saved in the research phase are re-distributed into modelling to further improve the quality of the final product.
If you think in terms of short-time development costs, this style taken by Gran Turismo may sound inefficient. But the passion and professionalism of each members of the modelling team further strengthen the trust with auto manufacturers, and that is what ultimately leads to increased collaborations with them. Gran Turismo has evolved into a project involving the auto industry, going beyond the boundaries of a simple video game.
Take for example the Corvette C7: in the previous Gran Turismo 5 title, a "Test Prototype" was distributed on November 2011, and the "Final Prototype" was released at the same time of the official unveil of the real car at a North American Auto Show in January 2013. Has there ever been a Corvette that has been test driven this much around the world before its release? And of course, its final production form will be included in Gran Turismo 6.

I doubt we will see GT7 next year. We will probably see gt6 with very minor tweaks and meybe some more anti aliasing added to make it look better on the PS4 (some people will probably call it GT5.75 LOL). I would say GT7 will be in 2015 or maybe just maybe 2016 on the PS4

If they receive the CAD data, and yet it still takes 6 months to model a single car...that to me sounds like a huge inefficiency/classic perfectionist Kaz

from Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (2013 or 2009)? thread
"6 months to make a car" is a common statement to several developers :)

Or maybe auto manufacturer's CAD data cannot be directly imported into Gran Turismo. Maybe PD is ensuring all premium models are ready for GT7 on the PS4. Maybe... just maybe.

The CAD data required to actually build a car would be far, far too detailed for the purposes of modeling a car for a videogame. And that's assuming it was directly compatible in the first place.

yeah, like this Ginetta 20+ millions polygons CAD model for Project CARS, they have to scale down the model
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=88932803&postcount=5630

For example, the Mercedes A45 CAD data is 650MB compressed. No usage for the actual game. And not to mention we do not have any idea on which reference level are GT models actually modeled.

We have no idea about what complexity of actual reference-model we're talking about and what is actually done before model is scaled for the PS3-level of usability.

It just popped into my head, but what if Sony offered an "upgrade" solution like they are with BF4, COD:G, AC4, etc? Buy the PS3 version and upgrade to the PS4 version for only $10. I mean, let's be realistic...if GT7 (or whatever they call it) were to actually release next year...less than a year after GT6 comes out, surely it's going to be an HD upgrade of GT6?

Perhaps this is just wishful thinking, but I could see Sony offering this.

Or I could be completely wrong :) maybe it's the under-cooked chicken wing I just ate (before I realized it was under-cooked) that is starting to kill me?

He said 6 months to develop , not model, meaning it still takes 6 man months on average to re-create the characteristics and features, and to input that data into the game.It did cut down the modeling or "design" time as the site states.Because like I said earlier, they have a more accessible reference than an actual car.

I thought gt6 was already HD? Lol how can you HD something that's HD

Do we have confirmation that GT6 is full HD (1920x1080p)?

Don't really see how they could release GT7 next yr when they're just releasing GT6 now, they'll have bugs to fix,DLC,and updates to do while apperantly working on GT7 with the short staff they have.Unless GT7 has a whole different team working on it I don't see how this is possible, even with a next gen console. The only way I could see this coming out next year is if they took out a bunch of cars and tracks.

Nor will we ever know so...

Also for anyone that may hype up the idea that GT7 will be around sometime in the next 13-14 months might want to recheck PD's track record. There is no best case scenario for them over there any road block that can or has come up will come up and has in the past.

nascar is nothing but wwe on 4 wheels with rolling billboards. whoever has the most money wins. and also whoever nascar allows to cheat the most wins. this is nothing but scripted entertainment. its not about driving, its all about the car and the sponsors. you cant argue with facts that track attendance is down as well as tv views

Wow, you really are clueless aren't you?

That Mikeymc92 guy has some weird ideas in his head, especially the fact he won't buy a game based on the inclusion of one thing that he doesn't like. That's like me saying I won't buy GT6 because it has a bunch of Toyota Priuses in it. I hate the Prius, but I'm not going to turn down a game because it has the Prius.

Anyway, I'm guessing that maybe GT7 could either be like GT3 due to possibly coming out in a year and just be a taste of what GT could be like on the PS4 or that it could be some other, random thing.

"Don't argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."

Wise words I often need to remind myself of. It really is true.

I guess to chime in on the actual topic, no I don't see GT7 happening next year at all. Unless they started simultaneous development alongside GT6 months ago.

Another that springs to mind is never argue with a fool cause from a distance people can't tell who is who

While I am not a massive Nascar fan I do watch from time to time. Sorry to say that drivers are athletes these days so D McNabb needs to consult the dictionary for definition of an athlete. Let's all agree however chess is NOT a sport. I find the road courses of Nascar more interesting than the ovals but still appreciate what these guys do which is impressive none the less.

All I know is based on PD's attention to detail will result in an amazing looking game and I feel that this tech demo that's been talked about is legit and will be pretty mind blowing I think

The only thing i hope is that if they do cut like GT3 is that they do update/remodel classic and wanted standards to premiums before cutting all standards.
Few i can see is Supra mk3/4, BMW M3 (GTR lr CSL), XJ220, Veyron (unless it is prem now), normal Zonda to go with the Huyrua and the Caterham Fireblade (because i like see a cars parts in action, the movements and roles. Hard when its in standard def)

Only issue is that those games were launch titles, that's pretty much where it's make or break for them. If they already released GT6 then made it a launch title for the PS4, it would work (for the $10 upgrade). You get the existing users from the PS3 buying it, as well as new users on the PS4. GT as a launch title would have held over it's fans (on the PS4) until their library started to fill out. Realistically, a GT game would still be relevant to a user for a minimum of a year, think about how many other titles could come out during that time! (I'm very displeased with their decision).

I have no hopes or anticipations for GT7 yet, it's still way too early, we'll see how 6 goes first - no gun jumping from me.

GT7 in late 2015 sounds safe, or perhaps a Prologue then full game a year later.
Either way, I'll focus on 6 for now and buy a PS4 when 7 comes.

That is still quite optimistic, I think maybe late Q1 in 2016.

2015 best case scenario, realistically: 07/7/2017
 I agree with that, we're probably both banking that it will take about as long as GT5 to GT6, but maybe we should strap in for GT4 to GT5. Though supposedly the dev kit for the PS4 is easier to work with than the PS3 so, we will see.

This would lead of a significant leap in PS4 sales. As it stands right now. I have ZERO reason to justify buying a PS4 (in January), other than I won't have the money a year from now.

Releasing a "proper" version of GT6 on PS4 in Feb when Japan releases the PS4 will be a positive thing for GT fans.

I seriously don't want to be stuck playing an outdated game on an outdated console for 730 long and agonizing days, knowing that SONY purposely dumbed the game down so the feeble PS3 could run it!

Even if DriveClub released a week and a half ago, that game would still not scratch the itch that only Gran Turismo can!!!!
