PD should really give us more options how to 'tune' the AI, while AI Sophy can't be tuned to be slower but can be coded to be consistent for 100s of laps. While the AI in GT3-GT4-GT5-GT6 weren't good it were decent. It has good & fast maneuverability as to not drive into me. How come PD can't fix/improve the regular AI to not drive into me regardless if I'm 2 seconds in front or 5-10 seconds??

It's not a matter of adding some lines of code *when opponent is there then don't hit". This is really advanced for an AI to be fast and still be able to predict when it can't do a divedomb.

Had some fun testing out a 86 GRMN spec series. Test track was Road Atlanta and the racing was good. This one was a 30 minute race with 1x fuel and 3x tire. AI started going in with around 5 laps left. No idea why because I had enough tires and they went for tires. Then the rubber-banding happened. I was up by 23 seconds and it was only 1.xx gap at the finish. lol

Then I tested a 30-minute Fit RS series at Tsukuba. Kinda boring as it was like a parade. AI wasn't even challenging the other AI. I'll try another track next time.

Reading these posts thinking how elite it would be if PD had a showcase mode for events that people made. Not a new idea I know, seen folks suggest it before. Would be great though.

That + custom championships that can also be posted + local/non-server based track editor would be awesome. This bit is stretching it but a thumbnail and art maker for events (maybe using the livery editor as a base toolset?) would also be great.

Huge thanks to this thread - really has transformed my experience with GT7 (along with VR). It's how I play 80-90% of the game (with stock cars).

This would be soooo good.

Online races using such events could/would be amazing too. My best times racing online were in TOCA 3 and Race Pro with a group of guys going through different classes of cars with no assists.

GT Sport doesn't really scratch that itch.

This thread alone would prop up a showcase custom race feature for ages lol. Folks have made tons of great grids and races. Online custom events would be awesome too! I hope PD considers it.

FYI - For anyone who downloaded the race manager and wants an update, DM with your email and I will send one over.

It's not on my website anymore. I can't say much. All good things, but I had to take it down.

The Custom Race feature has definitely helped me appreciate the original Gran Turismo car list. With the exception of not having Acura and exact Aston Martin and exact TVR models, I’m glad I’ve got pretty much all the cars from that game( 🙏 for the Primera  ). Still waiting on the return of the C2 Corvette in the LCD to complete the list.

Thanks to Kaz for finally adding arguably the best feature to this game.

What is this please?

I understand you're the pioneer when it comes to custom races so am interested.

I started out making a custom race manager and then I went a little wild and ended up making a complete/proper single player experience for the game.

All I originally wanted was something to give me a starting order and track finishing order for a "championship".

Now, it's considerably more and I need to have it not be public for the time being.

Any idea why applying the exact same custom settings to different tracks gives very different money rewards ?

I am doing 30 min races with Group C cars and reward varies from 130k to 200k.
I have no idea.

Using GT SOPHY:
  • One minute at Red Bull Ring is 6,500 Cr. Two laps at Red Bull Ring is 22,700 Cr.
  • One Lap at N24 is 67,400 Cr. Ten minutes at N24 is 69,500 Cr.

  • Thirty minutes at N24 is 208,500 Cr.
  • Thirty minutes at Spa Full Course is 180,700 Cr.
  • Thirty minutes at Tsukuba is 208,500 Cr.
  • Thirty Minutes at Laguna Seca is 208,500 Cr.
  • Thirty minutes at Road Atlanta is 208,500 Cr.
  • Thirty minutes at CGV(Regular AI only) is 208,500 Cr.

Do you have the same circuit experience completion level on each track? The custom race rewards take that into account and boost it up to 200% for a full circuit experience completion for that track.

It's credit balancing. I don't know what formula they are using, but given each track's unique configuration, it's feasible to earn more credits/KM/time on different tracks IF the credits paid the at the same rate on each track.

For instance if you had a 30 minute race at Route X, where you are flat out the whole time, you would travel a greater distance than if you were doing 30 minutes at Fisherman's Ranch. I believe that they reward you by the KM, so they would need to adjust the payrate/KM down so people didn't use route X to grind for credits.

Again, I don't know the exact balancing formula, but that would be your answer as to why they differ.

grid starts can cause a bunch of chaos like on monza tonight it was a huge traffic jam on the 1st turn causing a quick caution. an ai went flying on a bump on the first turn on the final lap trying to take another ai with it.

Really depends on how each player plays. Car choices, car settings, player skill, etc. For me, since I don’t nerf the car I use, I’m not running into scenarios where I’m way faster than the AI in the same car. Two races I just did just then to check the difference:

Boost Off
IMG_8050.webp

I steadily moved up the field. Caught P1 on lap 2 and the battle was in the high .5 range until we got to the Porsche Curves. I stretched out to 1.5 range at the start of Lap 3 and then at Indianapolis high 2 second range.

Boost Weak
IMG_8051.webp

P3 started ahead of me both races. I trailed behind it for the entire race as it steadily picked off cars. At one point in Lap 2, I almost felt it would leave me behind. We caught P4-P6 in a train and were behind the, first quarter of Lap 3. Soon fter we both dispatched them, running P2 & P3 to catch the leader. I was able to over take the MR-2 for P2 before Mulsanne. Closest I got to the leader before the finish was 5.9 seconds and that was just part of being quicker through the Porsche and Corvette.

Unless everyone stick to using the exact same set up(cars, tracks, settings, skill) there’s really no magic bullet. Everyone finds what works to how they get the most out of their play and that’s fine… but frustrating. :sly:;)

What has been providing the most fun for me is gr 3 and 4 races, Bop on, weak boost, and fuel map 2 or 3 for me. I find that the sweet spot to a competitive race.

I don't know if it's me or what, but Sophy seems to be doing different moves, especially defending. They are also far more aggressive (annoyingly) and won't hesitate to push you out any opportunity they have. At least it's been like that for the races mentioned above.

Sooo.. after my DTM grid I wanted to do Super Taikyu and keep it a bit in the same range as DTM. Not completely realistic but the 630pp is such a sweet spot for great racing. I also added some JGTC GT300 cars because why not. All these cars are AI tested to complete, but also working on perfecting each tune so its also great to use as tune as player.

I will post some screenshots from historical accurate races later.

That's absolutely some great work you're doing with your custom race grids! Loving it!

I'm using your DTM grid from your post back in December (see below) and see in the embedded Google spreadsheet that you must have updated or fine tuned some of the tunings (power, weight, down force, weight balance ratio).

I know your tuning base is that of Praiano, but you seem to avoid widebody kits or increasing rigidity, right?

I've tried to replicate the updates from the Google sheet but don't seem to match completely.

Would you mind sharing the updated tunings?

Hey here are my tunes. Think most are very similar wit other users tunes. I went for this also because it surprisingly keeps up with my WRX Gr. 4 which I use for other touring car events such as BTCC and JTCC.

BMW
Mercedes Benz
Escort
Supra
Alfa Romeo
R31

I just realize I forgot to add a R32 which i use for other group A races.
Everything has been tested on multiple circuits with basically racing versus 19 identical AI cars and see what fastest lap was/total race time and adjust. But sometimes its nice to edit a bit in BHP and weight for balance. Then I did custom races with mix of all 6 cars in 20 car grid and renaming the driver name with starting position to see how much they gained/lost and if that was in balance. So with 3 of each you can see if it was just a lucky race or if all 3 overperformed.

Yes I try to avoid widebodies and body rigidity for at least the AI cars as its just costing me money and AI doesnt gain that much from it. I sometimes use widebody on cars I use myself to improve handling. I'm also a poorly rated B driver and not that good, so with equal cars I will lose for sure.

Im thinking about how to share all tunes and liveries in a feasible way, even thinking about asking AI to create some website or something, as i also have a table with 7000 liveries for multiple racing competitions. Will try to share the DTM tunes, but I dont think i have noticably improved them compared to my last post though.

Amazing work! Photos of tunesheets and Showcase links to liveries are probably the best method I can come up with, re: sharing…

I find for whatever reason the AI really doesn't like certain Hondas. I initially thought it was all Hondas, but the Integra I use as an Accord substitute in my BTCC custom races is the only one that ever does okay, even then I still have to run it with an extra 30-40bhp but it is at least competing.

Ran another GRMN race. I'm now up to 14 cars. Just a lot of work to do each livery. lol Anyway, 30 mins. at N24. I think my settings were 1xT/5xF. Good close racing the whole way. Didn't notice much rubber-banding. Just the usual AI takes any opening available so a lot of banging around. We all pitted for fuel after 2 laps. I guess the AI doesn't figure out remaining time to fuel because I took in less fuel and was able to jump 3 cars in the pits. Ended in second at the finish.
