Well.. No because the statement why you always start at the back is because "lower skilled players" could race other cars with the similar machinery. So why would that player also put himself in a disavantage to improve himself? Doesn't make sense i think.
Wouldnt, but to them they would improve on the rear pack firstly, because they are slower than the leading pack, which again would be another improvement.

It just doesn't make sense for the game to have a higher difficulty setting AND beginner-friendly mechanics existing in the same environment, full-stop.

That is correct.

Why not? So a higher difficulty automatically means automatic gearing and no racing line for example? It should be possible to gradually improve your racing. If a difficulty is frustrating hard, people will give up.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the observation that the 'rolling roadblocks' of the back markers are there to provide a challenge for less skilled players, and simultaneously there is the option to increase the difficult Easy -> Medium -> Hard doesn't make sense.

Those easy to pass cars should only be there on the lower settings, in my opinion.

It kinda sends the message that even if you want to play on the hardest setting, you can still get moderate success which is missing the point of increasing the difficulty in the first place.

The reasoning that the single player racing is bad is that PD had no intention in making it good in the first place, because most of Kaz's interest all along was the online racing component. He wanted Gran Turismo to become an online, eSports experience above all else.

It was why starting from GT5 that the offline single player component would start suffering while the online became the most appealing part about the game. Technically his desire for online racing fun can be seen further back from that with the GT4 online demo.

Of course I don't like that direction, I would prefer that we had both worlds with equal focus, but that's the reality I'm living in.
There seems to be another really terrible aspect from GT that didn't seem to ever change before, but they've gone 180 now. Like for example, car customization including paint chip system in GT5, but now GT has a great livery editor. Also car sounds which were vacuum cleaners before, but now it's anything but, with the flaw only being in the shifting sounds for now. May happen for AI when Sophy is actually utilized as hoped.

This makes sense to me for the previous games where there were no difficulty options for career mode events specifically, only arcade mode.
But GT7 does have difficulty options for career mode now, with exception of the pepper events, licence tests and mission challenges.

I could be wrong but I think this is the first time in the series that this feature exists, so maybe they might move away from that chase-the-rabbit difficulty formula in the future.
Maybe.
This won't be enough for Sophy part, I'd wish players get to race the most difficult version of them, so should be the 0-100 scale. And there are no differences in rewards which should happen for difficulty setting.

B-Spec would be something i very much like in the game. But since there is no endurance races in GT7, i don't think it would serve a good purpose. Also B-Spec returning to series seems unlikely at this point.

As is said before, i think the AI will be much improved in the next GT game. Or maybe at least we will have the option to choose a difficulty (like Sophy)?

If you use a starting grid with the option for qualification, a lower skilled player can also race other cars and end up in the pack aswell. At least with this method you give players the option to improve instead of always having to start at the back.
B-Spec is also an AI stuff, so it also depends on Sophy. Sophy is the intended AI for B-Spec if it returns too.

Not too sure they've succeeded here... can't say I've ever seen a human randomly drop 15 mph like this.

What Sony AI has made and how it is implemented in GT by PD are not necessarily the same thing.

For instance, the emojis are not a feature of Sony AI's Sophy.

I could be really optimistic and say they were strategically getting behind you to take advantage of the slipstream (it doesn't really work on the chicane version of Le Mans, and doesn't make sense when it's not the final lap either, however).

Does anyone else here still use the old Logitech G27 with this game?

The G27 steering wheel is not directly compatible with either PS4 or PS5 due to a change in the data transfer protocol between accessories and has not been sold since 2015.
However it can be used through third party adapters that require some configuration and are not the most recommended option.

Yeah this is why I ask. I’m a cheapskate and have been happily using my old G27 with a drivehub and it was fine up until the recent physics update. Now it’s basically un-useable. Well, very difficult more like. The brake pedal is the main thing, it seems to be either fully on or off with not much in between.

I’m wondering if my set-up is lacking that bit of extra finesse the more detailed physics requires.

Time to get the old credit card out, I guess!

I find it interesting that you have at the most 3 chilis you can choose for difficulty but the game has races that clearly go above that. Also, PD ARE capable of making faster AI but choose not to because they aren't specifically aiming for hardcore sim fans that want that kind of difficulty (Although hilarously, they also have licenses that depending on your skill level are just as punishing at brutal as past license tests so...Maybe you'll enjoy it if you like suffering?)

Improving on the qualification you mean?
Otherwise you could also improve during the race (of which there is evidently more when you start way back).

I dont recall how many of the other racing games are doing that, but I think in the current NFS you are either placed randomly, or always at the same spot per event.
In Grid Legends I am sure there was also no qualifications option.
And then some other games will always put you in the back because of reverse finish to starting grid order.

In my opinion this fixation on "I dont like chasing" is lost time, and starting at the front doesnt feel like racing but running away when you have a car inside the regulations, it generally will only be racing when you put sever handicaps on.
In Grid Legends, you definitely don't have an option to qualify regardless of the mode you choose. What you do have for Custom Race is the ability to either randomize where you start (What I usually use for my youtube videos) or manually choose your position. Not sure if this was still the case for Project CARS 3, but in 2 you did have qualifying options in addition to the randomizing or manually choosing your start position. I think currently, the only racing games to still have qualifying are basically anything licensed (F1, ACC, LMU) and the latest Forza game (which you have the option to skip if I'm not mistaken).

(Although hilarously, they also have licenses that depending on your skill level are just as punishing at brutal as past license tests so...Maybe you'll enjoy it if you like suffering?)
However, you only actually need to pass the two easiest licenses to progress in the game

I am intrested to see what they do with my first gt,
Things has slow down a bit for 2024. Less cars has been added, only 1 track.
Very lackluster events etc, their is no way they have their full focus on gt7,
I would not be supriced if next year we see next gt being revealed or teased is some kind of way, in general their is between 4-5 years between gt titles, and its almost 3 years now since gt7 launched.

Just to look in the past gt sport was revealed just 2 years after gt6 released,
It was like 3 years when gt7 was first revelaed after gt sport release.
Maybe the release of my first gt demo, will delay things more.

They just added five cars though. That's two more than last month's update. Plus, it's cars members here suggested. PD are in a roll for delivering what cars players want(on this website anyway). E36, EG6, JGTC NSX, R31... Been a good year of cars added.

Two of the cars added last week were basically little more than reskins, however.

This has been a recurring theme since the beginning though. It doesn’t indicate anything special surrounding their current efforts.

And we've got 1 new circuit (not really new) in a year. Still waiting on the endurance races that were promised too.

Yeah, I've got nothing for that. Pikes Peak should have could have, if it's even on table, been "the one" for the year(got a month to go yet ;) ).

As far as endurance races, I wonder what Kaz has up his sleeve. Could make a whole thread on speculation...

Oh yeah Pikes Peak. Those new Colorado scapes we got, were any of those similar to those promotional images from a while ago that seemed to feature a Pikes Peak like setting?

Just had a look through the Scapes and haven’t found any landscape from those teasers.

So for anyone with the disc version of GT7: Is this happening for anyone else?

Been playing nonstop and yet for some reason, it now goes to this when I try to play it.

Edit: Restarted the console and it works now. No idea why that just happened.

Yes, same here. Still waiting on those endurance races. But starting to think they will never come. I really don't know why this wasn't in the main game to begin with. In about 4 months the game is 3 years old. Also, only 1 track in 2024. I don't see much tracks coming to the game in the future.

I'm really quite bored with this game. It's only that my VR2 and being able to experience some classic old cars that keeps me interested. I lost a lot of interest over time due to the declining sportsmanship standards and lack of proper penalties for dirty driving.

I'll not give up hope, but I'm not overly optimistic, either :-(

I have this problem.
This is a disc problem. I have small scratch after I dropped this some time ago. It sometimes prevent PS5 from loading the game properly. You could also get „corrupted disc” notification sometimes. Useally restarting, getting the disc out of ps5 and putting it again helps.
Check your game if it has any physical scratches or is it just dirty.

Have they been like this too since PS1-PS2 era? And for difficulty level, no reason to not put that faster AI in the higher difficulty, like even if the fans don't want hard race they can just lower the difficulty. PD Licenses seem to be brutal for getting gold (and the better prize with that), but I always felt bronze isn't really hard.

About the choices of cars being added like you listed there, GT would still have an outdated car list so what they add doesn't matter much, it doesn't satisfy what people want of an updated car list, and not a dinosaur one GT employs, like latest GT3.

Well, it's also the monthly/regulary update model. I feel GT7 was very barebones career wise and they try to keep us interested with new content on a regular basis. I have mixed feelings with it. Personally i rather have a full singleplayer experience to begin with and then updates on top but maybe not monthly then. On the other hand are new updates always something to look forward to. But the content itself is.. not disappointing but rather safe and really restricted. 3-4 events and that's it (off course new cars, scapes, menu's.. ).

In the past when I have had issues with discs I gave them a light going over with some car polish. Not super abrasive but enough to clean the disc and remove very light scratches,it might not work for you but Ive had success with this method.Dont go using T Cut or any abrasive polish though.
