I'd argue that if GT wants to truly serve as a comprehensive collection of automotive history and culture, it needs to cover as many niche eras and car types as possible - and yes, that includes the ugly bits that people generally don't like. Why would the first car from a specific era and market in a specific segment even matter anyway? That’s an oddly specific measure of quality content.
It's not just America either - the roster kind of trails off a lot in general in the mid-1970s after the Kenmeri Skyline and doesn't pick up again until about 1984-5.I'd argue that if GT wants to truly serve as a comprehensive collection of automotive history and culture, it needs to cover as many niche eras and car types as possible - and yes, that includes the ugly bits that people generally don't like.
A pretty egregious example of this currently not being the case is that fact that we don't have a single American car built between 1979 and 1988, and even worse, none built between 1990 and 2002. And no, I don't count the Cosworths - those are European to the core.![]()
I’d say the AE86s are compact cars. Edit: That was answered already. That's a lot of personal opinions. If you try to be objective about it, this update broadens the scope of the car selection more than most.
The F1 car is a totally unique new option, licensed or not (generic formula cars are a staple of the series, but the pros and cons of that are an entirely different topic).
The Civic is pretty unique in being the first 80s JDM compact car in the game, unless I'm forgetting something.
The Toyota is of course not an interesting car in itself, but it fills the gap of "current everyday road cars" which this GT has very few of. The fact it's a crossover is a reflection of the times, like it or not.
The Hyundai is in a somewhat similar category - if you don't like EVs that's fine, but it's not Gran Turismos fault that they are relevant nowadays.

I get it, that timespan was not the best time for the automotive industry for sure. But it's a notable gap.
And the Chevy Citation, too. They had a performance model of that, too.I’d say the AE86s are compact cars. Edit: That was answered already.
Edit:
About no American cars from 1979-1988. That’s where the IROC-Z Concept would fit as a returning car. Any fox-body Mustang and I guess any Chrysler offering from Dodge Omni GLH-S to Shelby Charger GLHS.
Remember the Beretta GT-U and Cavalier Z24? At the moment, the only car I could see PD adding is the GNX from the datamine. And the Chevy Citation, too. They had a performance model of that, too.
Weekly Fomo events, legendary dealership...LITERALLY aspect of 'missing out'None of that is relevant to your "FOMO" claim, which I was refuting. I don't really care about any of this post-rationalisation.
Missing what ? A car that will come back for sure in a few weeks ? The feature is annoying but it is not FOMO.Weekly Fomo events, legendary dealership...LITERALLY aspect of 'missing out'
I mean, it technically is as you have a time-limited window of about a week to ten days to buy the car in question before it is removed from rotation. Should you have enough money, but the car is sold out by then, it will sting, and will take a while before it returns. Chances like these come back every once in a while, so if you snooze, you lose.Missing what ? A car that will come back for sure in a few weeks ? The feature is annoying but it is not FOMO.
But it returns regularly, so you don't have to FOMO and you have time to get the credits (which can be long). I'd prefer those cars to be available at every time but if I can't buy it this week, I have time to plan to get the credits until it comes back.I mean, it technically is as you have a time-limited window of about a week to ten days to buy the car in question
Weekly Fomo events
Are 80% drawn from existing races, the other one is a custom race anyone can set up at any time, and they don't give any unique rewards that you'll otherwise miss out on.
legendary dealership...
Can't be a FOMO mechanic if (to a high level of certainty) you know it's coming back.
The only FOMO mechanic left in GT7 in its current state is Invitations. Which suck.
Like... at all. All your information about it seems second-hand and a couple of years out of date at best.Do you play the game at all?
Except that there is. They're just in a rotation (well... two rotations; the three trophy cars are in a more frequent cycle) and save the rare occasion where PD shuffles it slightly or buggers it up entirely (like the Escudo) it's all fairly predictable, and people have been making rarely incorrect (but sometimes out by five days) lists of upcoming cars for almost three years. And while yes, it will come back eventually, there's no way to predict when the car will return to these dealerships.
You actually intend on making an actual argument or are you just gonna continue with this busted record player act you keep putting on?Weekly Fomo events, legendary dealership...LITERALLY aspect of 'missing out'
A 90s F1 carIts not gt7 worst update. But the choises is quite bad. Instead of the Toyota their could be something like BMW m5 any gen, Ferrari 812 superfast, mclaren 765lt or any Audi rs models. And the update even with just 4 cars would feel less lackluster.the varity is not great here.
Sometimes pd have very strange choises.
Its only good variety if it has 4 700hp midengined supercarsA 90s F1 car
A brand new EV
A late 80s hatchback
A modern Daily driver

Why should be always super cars or GT3 cars?? There are literally a dozen of racing games/sims with that content, if GT has been different ll these years us because of variety and let people play/drive/race with regular cars and affordable sport vehicles🤷♂️
If GT has anything it's variety. Putting a M5 in there would't bring more variety - putting in a tractor would.Gt7 has been out for almost 3 years and there is still not a single BMW m5 model. No Audi rs models. No it dosent have to be just super cars. But more varity would be great.
For a game quite heavily focused on pushing the competitive aspect it's rather embarrassing just how out-of-date most Gr. 1, 2, 3 and 4 lineups are. Aside from the VGTs, the newest Gr. 1 and 3 cars are from 2021 and the newest Gr. 2 and 4 are from 2019. Several manufacturers' lineups are multiple generations out-of-date.Why should be always super cars or GT3 cars?? I'd like to see a BMW m5 model too, it's so weird they have plenty other type models, like m3 and m4. And they even have a BMW m6 Group 3 car. PD should enhance a little variety for each manufacturer at least.Gt7 has been out for almost 3 years and there is still not a single BMW m5 model. No Audi rs models. Just use a different word to say you really want a M5 man.
I'd like to have them in the game as well for sure. But I don't find it stranger than any other car not being in the game. But you have to admit not having a single BMW m5 model or Audi rs model is beyond strange.
In fairness, PD aren’t obligated to add these cars into the game ever despite them being heavily requested. I’d love to see them in the game but that’s mainly up to PD…But you have to admit not having a single BMW m5 model or Audi rs model is beyond strange.
