Would be surprising if there was no update this month, since in december they announced the hyundai ionic 5 as coming with the january update. Maybe, at worst, it comes one week later in feb, but we will likely have the update.

I recall Kaz posting on Twitter, "Update coming tomorrow.." for one of the GT Sport updates on the second last day of the month. I wouldn't worry too much wondering if the update will arrive on time.

Gran Turismo remained strong in Europe but took a nosedive in the US after GT5. So it's good to see GT7 doing the numbers in that market. Some estimations I've seen suggest over 3.4 Million in the US alone, so probably over 10 Million worldwide.

Firstly, struggling to believe GT7 is fifth in units - between GT1 at 10.85m and GT2 at 9.37m, and still behind GT Sport - at almost three years in.

Secondly, what's the deal with making new accounts and spiking the old ones?

I think we need to see the European and Asian figures. Anecdotally (and from the monthly charts on the PS Blog) it seems GT really dropped off in the US until December's price cut & demo.

Gran Turismo 3 - 7,140,000 (Heavily bundled, RRP $40, then $19.99 Greatest Hits)

Gran Turismo 2 - 3,960,000
Gran Turismo 4 - 3,470,000
Gran Turismo 7 - ? (RRP $70)
Gran Turismo 5 - 3,440,000
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - 1,340,000
Gran Turismo 6 - 1,240,000
Gran Turismo PSP - 1,050,000

If those numbers are anything like it won't be long until GT7 moves in behind GT3 for units sold. The respective RRP's are why it's already #1 for revenue.

GT Sport is unknown but didn't perform well on US Circana/NPD charts (revenue based). It was heavily discounted and bundled in Europe some 3-6 months after release.

What does "ranks 1st in dollars" mean?
 
It's worth noting that a lot of that money comes from games being $70 now, and Sony having gone the Nintendo route and not permanently discounting games anymore (whereas Sport for example will have a lot of units sold but a really low average sale price). So it's not quite as impressive as "most money made of any Gran Turismo" sounds.

Still, as mentioned above the game outsold FFVII Rebirth on the PS Store in the EU last year. We can argue about how well the game is doing, but it having done well seems fairly undisputable at this point.

Can't be a FOMO mechanic if (to a high level of certainty) you know it's coming back.

The only FOMO mechanic left in GT7 in its current state is Invitations. Which suck.

Meanwhile other racing titles withdraw car rewards, cosmetic rewards, and even actual races if you don't do them within a specific window and with no guarantee, or even hint, that they're ever coming back.

Such a weird, weird criticism to level at GT7 when there's other, more valid ones.
 
I guess cars like the official GTWS RC F special livery are something players missed out on if they don’t participate during those certain time periods.
