The problem with GT7's used car dealership is that it rotates in real time instead of just swapping out every time you play a few races. It's a much less interesting feature when I don't get to stop and check in during breaks in career mode.

If I wanted Animal Crossing progression, I'd play Animal Crossing.
Agreed for this, dunno if this is affected by online stuff, then this'd be another part of GT that is ruined by online (like always online). There were in-game calendars for older GT games.

The returning feature in GT7 isn't UCD, but Online Collector's Dealership.

Something that hasn't changed from GT5's UCD is also that, the GT7 UCD currently doesn't have the car cost half its new price (in older games' UCD), but just slightly cheaper than its newer version.
They really are the last remaining unfriendly piece of it all, and as I lightly raged in my article about it, there's so, so many inspired-by-reality or just more imaginative ways of doing it.

Hopefully they'll do something about it like they did with engines/parts - like make them all available at CL50, or buyable, or specific Six-Star (Invitation) Tickets - even if they don't do a root-and-branch change like any of the things I thought up in two minutes.
Yeah, unlike the Engine Swaps and Ultimate Parts, dunno how'd they implement Invitations in a non-RNG way for now. Engine Swaps and Ultimate Parts are something you permanently own, but Invitations are always made temporary, so I don't know/understand how'd they fix the RNG aspect of Invitations.

Invitations (for later installments) shouldn't be removed, but implemented in different ways, rather like usual video game unlockables.

Which was convenient, but also took away some of the fun factor. I like that there's a rotation in the used car dealership and that there's an element of surprise when you open it.

Inconvenient when you just want a certain car in a certain colour, sure. But more fun than having everything available all the time.

Perhaps in a future GT title you could start the game in, say, the 1950's and buy the cars available back then as new and then as the game progresses you move on to the 1960's, 1970's etc and during this transition cars would move from brand central to the used car dealership and then with time some would eventually go to the legendary dealership...

And if you want to go back in time, you could buy a DeLorean? 😁
Didn't Sega GT 2002 do something like this, long long ago?

My take here is, they should have separated Car Roulettes from regular roulette tickets. As it is, they feel a little too much like Forza Horizon's Wheelspins, and not in a good way since the Roulettes here feel weighted towards small amounts of credits rather than feeling truly random like Horizon. At least tie the Daily Workout to Car Roulettes like GT Sport and leave the regular roulettes for collector level-ups and Cafe Menu rewards.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, it might just be a request to use a song for an update trailer or something like that, I wouldn't jump straight to "GT8 confirmed!".

I mean it's not exactly a secret that GT8 would be under development, confirmed or not. It's just how basic game dev goes.

That said, I don't think Derek Higgins is lying here. But I hesitate to think that the correspondence he got is actually legitimate. I don't know if I believe, as per that video - PD would suddenly be asking musicians to soft confirm their next game by asking them to create videos talking about GT8.

On one hand, I do get and understand that hesitation (Afterall, I myself got an email from a company that, as I would quickly learn, was scamming people on youtube and various social media platforms with promises of a good quality microphone and compensation if they made a short video using said product). On the other though, I can't recall PD being very secretive about Music of all things and given the big presence of Sony music licensed artists in GT7, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the sort of connection with this deal.

Its less the music part about it I have confusion about and more the "make a short video talking about it" - that's not secrecy at that point, its marketing, and that'd be a hell of a sudden tone shift for PD.

At that rate, that feels like someone from Sony representing PD. Of course Dereck also seems aware of shady offers too (and appears to even have dealt with plenty, which isn't a surprise considering he owns all his music) so I'm left thinking he wouldn't be doing this if he didn't fully feel like this was legitimate.

Yet....

I can already hear GT8 menu music or PhotoScape from this:

I think it wasn't anyone planning to reveal anything at least from Sony. It was just Dereck getting excited to get this contract, and over sharing it to the world, to Sony and PD's soon to be surprise..

Edit:
The man's got talent:

I am liking this... Reminds me of my new age electronic years...

This one has a chill ambiance to it...

There are more where this is coming from.

This deal is legit... For both parties... Am excited

GT8 Dec 2027 trailer for 2028 Dec release.... :P lol

Why is it not strange. Its the kind of cars most people expect to see in a modern racing game.
Between gt4-gt6 we had plenty of them
Because both Audi and BMW are currently represented in GT7 with cars that are sportier than the bigger RS and M cars. By “sporty” I refer to a more optimized combination of handling and weight, as seen on the M3. The bigger cars like the M5 are heavier highway cruisers, although still with some sporting pedigree. I understand the cool factor appeal of the M5, but for circuit driving we already have nimbler, and thereby better cars from Audi and BMW.

Then someone might argue there’s a big and heavy Lamborghini SUV in the game. Well, I’m not saying PD has a rigid rule against adding not so sporty cars. All I’m saying is that it’s not outright strange that there’s no M5 etc. Because such bigger cars are not the norm in GT7, hence not strange. Just give it time, there’s an M5 in the datamine. However, in GT5 it was a boat. Enjoy the complete family of M3 models instead. They are more fun anyway.

Not always. Remember the Ferrari@Fuji event we had recently? There was a F40 on racing tires on the grid. You can't do this in custom races.
Of course we can. We can’t mix up treaded compounds. We can definitely add RH to one AI car and the rest of the cars on a grid have default treaded compounds fitted.

I have all 18 AI different Roadsters with RH. Just selected one to have the stock CS.

Most people would expect to see luxury executive saloons and estates in a modern racing game?

These "most people" are weird.
Yes, yes they would. Let's start by reminding everyone that the I5N we get this week (which I love) at 4600 lbs weighs 300lbs more than the outgoing M5, almost the same as the Charger/Challenger Hellcat in game, and just 200lbs less than the current RS6. The GTR we got last update is knocking on the door of 4000lbs as well... Clearly weight and size are not determining factors here.

The M5 is a hot button topic at the moment, what with it's hybridization and massive weight, but it's still a rocket. The previous generation is celebrated and loved, especially in competition guise, and a fitting addition to any modern car-centric game. That said, the E60 is loved for it's handling and V10, the E39 is considered by many to be the best sports sedan ever made, and the E34/E28 were lovely legends that punched way above their weight during their time. Nothing "weird" about wanting any of these at all. I think it's weird not to, and there's no concrete reason as to why they would be excluded more than any other. I mean, BMW was the standard for sporting road cars for many years. See pretty much every top ten/must have car list from the late 70s through the early 2000s.

As far as RS, they are very much not all "executive saloons". We have the early RS2s, a small wagon, the B5-B7 RS4s, also small-midsized sedans/wagons, and all of the generations of of RS3 including the well-loved 8Y (which is another current hot car with amazing performance, and not an "executive saloon" being based on the Golf chassis and available in hatch form). The newest RS3 is also notably present with the initial offerings in AC EVO (pretty darn relevant I'd say). We have the Urus in game, which is nearly identical under the skin to the RSQ8, the biggest RS model, yet it's here... in GT7, so why should any RS model be excluded?

Now the RS6 definitely fits the "executive" term, but it's also a nimble powerhouse that eats up tarmac like nobodies business, and has been a gorgeous well loved part of the RS lineup for years now in the C8 and C7 generations, and less so in the C6/C5s. The current C8 RS6 even has a new GT variant. It and it's stablemate the RS7 are 100% relevant in the enthusiast automotive space. Once again, the reasons these are not included do not outweigh the reasons any other car isn't in GT7, and to say it's "weird" to want them is very ignorant of the thousands of enthusiasts, race drivers, reviewers and normal people that love them.

All of this has nothing to do with the actual motives behind why any car makes it in game, but to say that these models in particular are less worthy than anything else isn't supported by anything real.

EDIT: In response to @Nielsen comment "Because such bigger cars are not the norm in GT7". From GT2: BMW 528, BMW 740, Chrysler Phaeton, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Jaguar XJ, Jaguar XK8, Jaguar XJR, Lexus GS300/400, Lexus SC300/400, Mercedes E55 AMG, Mercury Cougar XR7, Plymouth GTX, Plymouth Superbird, Renault Espace, MANY versions of Legacy wagon, and many Toyota Chasers and Soarers.

What's that about "not the norm"?

And I didn't do either of these things.

The post said "expect" not "want", and it has very little to do with how beloved they are of reviewers, racing drivers, and enthusiasts that people should "expect" them to be in modern "a racing game".

Certainly if you look at the replies to Yamauchi's Tweets, it seems most people expect racing cars in a racing game - which is, I suppose, not too unreasonable. Many of the rest just want to wave the flag for their pet preference.

It was a very passionate but irrelevant defence of the virtue of these cars.

I don’t think most people would. Especially with the interest in cars dwindling. I’m a car nut and I did not expect to see luxury cars in GT2. Let alone to see Accord, Legnum(I didn’t even know what that was before Gran Turismo-one of my best friends owns one) and Subaru(wagons)estates in the first game.

I don’t expect to see an M4 Touring in GT7 and I guess GT8. That’s only from knowing the recent history of PD adding cars. We all still have no idea what to expect.

I never knew you could set Laguna Seca to have such foggy weather. Is this just the overcast/cloudy day setting?

M5 would be better suited than many cars we already have in the game. Their is plenty of heavy or slow cars. So that dosent work as an argument,
Its about creating better varity in the game and fill out the missing gaps on more on the brands.

A m5 would be a better addition than another m3 because their is already 5 of them

"Want", "expect", the difference is trivial here. I understand you're very specific about word choice, but we're getting pretty pedantic about differences that don't really differ much at all.

It's not a modern "racing" game, it's a modern game that celebrates car culture AND racing. There are many aspects of GT that have nothing to do with running a car around a circuit.

PD has shown that race cars are not a priority through DLC updates that provide many more "normal" cars than any type of racing car. If you count the race cars that are relevant, the balance is even more in favor of road-going iron. So regardless of what people want, expect, wish for, or hate, there still isn't any tangible valid reason for anything we've gotten so far to be any more relevant than an M or RS model.

You say it's weird to "expect" them, I say that's completely unfounded, and history proves it.

Thanks! I tried to do this once for photos but wasn't able to figure out a setting that looked how I wanted. I will give this a shot.
Keep in mind it’s “Random”. If you want to make sure you get the clouds, click on the Random and select the weather.
