I want to revisit what I said about the game's new physics. Some cars / specifically road cars, really struggle to handle it.

The TVR Tuscan, which used to be one of my favorites, has practically become one of the worst. It squirms all over the place at the slightest input. If you make a small steering adjustment on a straight line to realign the car, it keeps wobbling from side to side the whole way until the next braking point. It feels less like the car is fitted with tires and more like it’s on balloons; the way it moves goes far beyond what the tire width or thickness should allow without the tires to break appart. I have close to zero confidence into driving this car anymore.

More generally, it is now more difficult to make a road car close to believable as a race car. Engine swaps and customizable racing parts have less interest than before to that end.
I think this heavily depends on the road car. I have exactly opposite experience with the Volvo 245. Feels like a proper tuned track car now. But yes.. a setting for steering deadzone is needed. Or more centering FFB instead of sway in the middle.

I haven't had a chance to check any cars yet because for some odd reason it awhile to download the update. I started playing Fh5 last night while I was waiting for GT7 to update and after about an hour it was still downloading so I put my PS5 to sleep and let it finish. Normally it doesn't take long so I guess it was my internet. I really don't like Spectrum Internet. Unfortunately they have a deal as the sole ISP in my complex. Hopefully I can get a chance in the next couple of days to try out the new cars.

I didn‘t have much time to properly try the update yet but I was able to make Toyota Team TOM‘s cars from the 1998 JTCC season:

More liveries will follow later when I‘m back home from the gym!

I think I can throw myself into the "likes" the physics changes crowd. After acclimatizing by doing nearly 600 miles on a variety of cars, the tires now feel like actual believable rubber. I think they may have added too much downforce to some cars, for instance the LMH cars where now at stock power they barely hit 200 mph due to all the drag added. And there is that weird quirk where when you let go of the wheel/steering the car feels like it returns to center rather abruptly and then see it wiggle as a result.

I've also noticed AI making more mistakes now, but I was under the impression AI outside of Sophy don't utilize the full physics engine we have? Either way it adds more variability in the rather still processional affair non Sophy races are.

Well, I'm a steering wheel gamer here.
I’ve never really enjoyed driving in this game, but I have to say that since this update, I’ve been having a lot more fun with the road cars.
As many have said here, it feels much more like you’re actually driving on tires, and you no longer feel like you’re scraping the ground at the slightest pressure on the tires.
It’s much more refined, less on-off.

But where I find the driving much more enjoyable is that I can finally place the car exactly where I want it, just like in PC sims.
It’s hard to explain, but I no longer have that feeling of being on a train ready to derail at any moment.
Now the car has more consistent grip.

For these tests, I drove a Clio RS Trophy 16, an SLS AMG ’10, and a Giulia GTA M on the Nordschleife.

However, there’s one major downside for me—and it applies to all three cars—during hard braking, the vehicles turn into slithering eels and slide all over the place as if I were braking on ice.
The cars are stock, and if they behaved like this in real life, Misha would have been dead a long time ago.

Even though I have a bit of ABS, I lose control of the car completely very easily.
Actually, the rear end sways from left to right—it's really surprising.

I’ve never had this problem before in other sims with road cars.

Dirt racing is completly broken, at least on a pad. It's like the game is constantly trying to correct the steering when the car slides, despite all assists being turned off. The results is the car is zig zaging all the time even though I'm not touching the pad.
But the more I drive with this update the more I feel this is also impacting road racing, just a lot less.
I'm not a huge rally fan, but it's always been fun, alot of fun. Once you learnt the track and brake/turn in points, being able to 'throw' a car into the corner then trying to balance and steer on the throttle...

Now it's just horrid, really bad.

I used a stock Evo with just dirt tyres to keep any interfering variables to a minimum and was a bit shocked by how it felt, there's literally no pleasure or fun driving it at all.

It's just all over the place. I turned steering sensitivity down to -2 on the controller, had another go and the car was more controllable, but again, it felt horrible, more like holding on and trying to wrestle something to go in the direction you want, rather than steering with the throttle and floating through a corner.

What a shame, the rallying was a genuine alternative to really having 'fun' if you got a bit tired of road/race cars and just wanted something different.

:(

That sounds like the problem Fanatec had right after the original 8nm holding torque update. Anyone else having this issue? How high FFB setting you have in game? Im currently at 8 and no problems. Might be that the new stiffer FFB is bringing back the Fanatec holding torque issues. Not straight related to FullForce.
My Max. Force Feedback Torque is at 5, Sensitivity at 3. Base settings are on auto, FullForce at 100%. Just did a 40-minute session, and the FFB hasn't cut out yet. Prior to update 1.71, I was running Torque at 6 and Sensitivity at 3. Seeing similar reports on the Fanatec forum about instability after 1.71 — they're saying Fanatec has launched an investigation.

Generally enjoying the update, the Caterham is a blast, the Toyotas are great fun and even the Hyundai doesn't suck 😁 However I've just done the evolution meeting weekly at Colorado and I'm actively having to fight against the car as it is constantly counter steering against slides (with all aids off), it feels very, very weird and not particularly enjoyable. It does seem to be doing it on road courses as well, but not to the same effect

I’ve seen those reports - unfortunately the component variations in production runs means not everyone will have the same problems.

If it is indeed wheel shutdown due to overload, then lowering on wheel base is likely safer than lowering in game - I’d maybe run FFB at 90-95 and FUL at 90 and compensate in game until this shakes out to limit max output by the base

Could possibly be related to auto setup but no hard info yet

For me, the issues actually started when I wasn't using auto settings — I had my own custom setup. After the first two dropouts, I started digging around for info, and one of the suggested fixes was to switch to auto. Probably safer to just wait for a patch and stay off the track for now =)

Having driven some Gr.3 now... yeah, I get it, I'd be annoyed too if I were an A+. That's by far the least risky these cars have ever felt.

I would suggest anyone who hasn't done either of the Nordschleife circuit experiences get those done now, on this version, before they inevitably backtrack on the changes; under these physics is probably the easiest those will ever be.

Ive done a few more laps/hours on Tokyo, which is my go to test track for all cars, and have found some road cars do feel like they wobble a little going into corners. Its like the springs, dampers and ARB need serious tweaking, which would be fine but this is on stock set ups.The stock 2017 GTR had a little body roll but now seems excessive into corners,2003 BMW M3 the same, along with a few others I used.Once race suspension is messed around with its some-what better but not perfect, this may be my driving style so its not conclusive but it will need more time for me to get used to it.Onwards and upwards, but I hope its not going to be an issued like the suspension was on the 1997 M3.Apart from that i`m having fun. 👍

For context, all I’ve done since the update is drive a 996 Cup build around Brands Hatch, as well as the new Caterham in both road and race trim. I drive on a DS4.

The new physics are a disappointment, for me.

They felt a little iffy in the Caterham. More numb than what I’d imagined. I was concerned, but I thought it was just the car.

Then I jumped into my trusty, very well-sorted 996. Again, the feel was lacking, and after a few laps, I realised where my mind was going, in trying to find a comparison to this experience.

Last year, I spent a few days back on GT3. I adore that game, and I had a lot of fun. But compared to my regular GT7 jaunts, it felt quite dated. It was a rather more “floaty” driving experience than I recalled previously. I was reminded of that sensation, with these new physics.

GT3 is what it is… I can’t help but feel GT7 has regressed severely on this update, though.

Is it simply that the DS4 wasn’t play-tested with these physics? I see some feeling like it’s barely different, and that’s far from the experience I’m having!

Maybe it’s just setups needing huge overhauls, but I can’t really see that helping the overall numbness I experienced.

I'm a controller player, and I agree with the complaints about the new dirt physics. I played the Evolution Meeting weekly race, and it was weird.

I move the stick to the right to start sliding around a right turn, and when I lighten up on the stick, the car's nose immediately moves to the left. It's like the game is forcing the nose of the car to point in the same direction as the car's momentum, instead of allowing the slide to continue. This results in an endless left-right battle of overcorrections even on normal straight sections.

As far on-road racing, my FR cars have so much grip now that I'm probably going to turn off the TCS (I currently have it on the lowest setting).

Looking back at what I wrote, maybe the TCS is what's screwing up dirt racing with the new physics? I won't have time to test it over the weekend, but maybe someone else can chime in.

TCS is generally forced disabled for off-road so that's not going to be it. It's mostly fine on wheel, it's something to do with the input filtering applied to pad off-road.

I should have mentioned that I play with a controller; I don't know what to say about the FFB.

Ok - my first impression have never been this wrong. Propably because they were from a 600hp Volvo 245 on mildly wet track. I have now driven few hours of GR3, very shortly GR4 and some street cars. How could i put this politely. Its like driving a semi stiff understeering condom. Jeezzz. I literally couldnt find a car I enjoyed to drive. I dont mind extra grip, but its very weird when you push the car. It comes on and off with no apparent reason, and when its off, its 99% understeer. You drive too fast you understeer. You deive too slow and you understeer, you put comfort tires to a GR3 car - you understeer. Even 900kg Giulia with 600hp UNDERSTEERS. There isnt any kind of way to push the car in a slide or oversteer, it will either grip randomly like it resets grip every 2 seconds and then understeers to oblivion. There is something very wrong in the physics at the moment. Like some weird driving aid is stuck on. I bet Dualsense users love this update.

Maybe there is something wrong with the weight transfer or something..

Edit.

Very weird.. I wanted something raw to test so i took stock Cobra and Ford Mark IV to Nurb with sport and comfort tyres. Just weird. Like there is a water tank stabilizer in the car, that keeps you wobbly straight even if you try to de-stabilize the car, and then suddenly it decided to take you to other orientation and you are stuck in that - often understeer 4 wheel slide, but without latitude forces. Just a watertank floating over the ground. And its the same on tarmac and grass. Then might suddenly snap to oversteer with no apparent reason and stabilize itself back to another angle float. Like the car had its own random physics detached from the world. I recall we have had something similar long time ago in GT7 or GT Sport. Like some randomly self-alining driving aid stuck on. 🤔

I’m relieved to see so many responses mention the auto-centre wiggle when using pad, at least it’s not just me. Given PD have tweaked new physics releases previously, I’m confident they’ll sort it. I am finding this wiggle is making my time spent with GT to be a little less fun.

Exactly what i feel with some road cars. It’s hard to describe, but it’s as if the tires were properly aligned with the road, yet the car's chassis kept swaying from left to right to left to right above them.

Sometimes less really is more. I like the stock Caterham but swapping in the Jimny engine makes it so much nicer to drive. Just the right amount of power, handles beautifully.

So after driving Gr3s a lot more, I can now see why the Sport crowd generally dislikes the changes. Hard to say if it's mainly because of the new physics or the new setups for the cars, but they are weirdly stable at low speed, even with RH (it certainly doesn't help that Gr.3s are incredibly underpowered due to BoP...).

Another thing that doesn't feel right is FF cars with high power. Somehow, turning more while the car is already power understeering helps, instead of causing more understeer? Doesn't make much sense.

Dirt feels alright to me on Gr.Bs (can still throw them around quite easily), but I can definitely feel lower powered cars "wobbling" around sometimes. Snow, which was quite fun, is much worse now. Big slides will just make the car wash out to the outside and crash.

Hopefully PD tweak the physics in the next updates. While some cars don't feel bad, the general understeer most race cars and some road cars now have isn't great. :indiff:

Digit Racing isn't a fan:

I've only driven a GR1 car since the update so can't comment on the 'marshmallow tyres' feel of street cars but I definitely agree that braking distances seem insanely short now. I can brake from 220mph to nothing at the end of the Le Mans straight in like half the distance I could pre patch, even on worn tyres. Other than that though, that particular car doesn't feel much different. Maybe I'm in for a shock when I drive something road legal with less downforce

I tried Yas Marina for 5 laps and Gr3 felt exactly like Gr4. It was much easier for me compared to before the update when I was struggling with 911 and penalties

That’s what I was describing about it feels like more engine braking and I guess more friction on the tyres, aiding short braking distances.

I honestly can't say whether the new physics update is bad or if it's just me who hasn't gotten used to it yet. I will play more tonight and see.

But for now, I think it's a very divisive update. I've seen many people liking it while others are hating it.

It requires less skills to drive, so there are many people benefiting. Unhappy are the people that put an effort to refine these skills
