I think the FFB got hotfixed at some point yesterday. I have only driven road cars since the update dropped. My first session the FFB was amazing on DD Pro. So much more depth than before and the physics felt as good as ever. I then did the Weekly Challenges this morning and the FFB was nonexistent, especially in the dirt. It was such a shock that I disconnected the wheel and restarted it, only for it to feel the same. It has felt different ever since. I might have to update the base next week and see if that helps.

Blimey. I’ve never been a fan of rally driving and certainly none of GT’s attempts, but this week’s challenge at Colorado Springs is just a mess. I don’t know if it’s “more realistic” or not, and tbh I don’t really care, it just needs to be fun and constantly yawing the entire race is the polar opposite of fun (on a pad, anyway).

I'm away so haven't tried the update yet, looking forward to it, I love a GT7 update, whatever it contains.

That said, personally I wish they would stop changing the physics. As far as I'm concerned it was absolutely fine as it was 3 years ago; by no means perfect, don't get me wrong, but every update makes things different rather than better or worse, and when your main game mode is multiplayer lobbies and you've got 500+ tuned cars, it's a bit irritating to fix them all. I wish they would focus their effort elsewhere, such as fixing custom races, enabling bigger grids, etc.

Nevermind, looking forward to playing with the new cars, a good selection, and it's great to see how customisable they are. Love the Jimny swap for the Caterham too, more "detuned" swap options would be welcome, I might even allow engine swaps in some of my lobbies in that case. 😁

Testing the new physics now, and asphalt handing seems to be fine for me, and dirt driving (I'm using gamepad) don't looks as bad as a lot of people says here.
I think it's just a matter of getting used to it.
For the cars, that's a nice selection.
Welcome back Chaser, Caterham and Mark II.
I even like the IONIC 6 with that fake ICE sound and transmission.

I knew I would be impressed by the ioniq 6 n but, dang, it is even better than anything I could have imagined.

Has someone who struggles to find EV cars exiting I’m very impressed by what Hyundai is doing with their N cars. For some reason, it doesn’t drive like a boat, and the amount of power isn’t absurd (cough Xiaomi, BYD cough) so it doesn’t want to kill you and went you arrive in a corner you can actually get the car stopped has you are not arriving at 300+ kph. Before the update the 5 n was clearly the best driving EV, and now the 6 n beat it by a mile with it shifting function. For all I know I could have been driving a ICE car…

Very impressed by the car and I’m looking forward to seeing what Hyundai can do in the future. If they keep going in this direction, I might eventually end up driving an EV…

I'm getting dizzy after a while with the new physics :ill:, it's like driving on jelly, or like it's not enough air in the tires.
Street cars are worst than race cars, but it's there as well, the wobbling.

I drive VR only and never had to deal with motion sickness, until update 1.71...

I like parts of the new physics, and am looking forward to when they iron out the wrinkles, but I might have to take a break for a bit.

There would be an official record of it if that was the case.

Well, I'm a steering wheel gamer here.
I’ve never really enjoyed driving in this game, but I have to say that since this update, I’ve been having a lot more fun with the road cars.
As many have said here, it feels much more like you’re actually driving on tires, and you no longer feel like you’re scraping the ground at the slightest pressure on the tires.
It’s much more refined, less on-off.

But where I find the driving much more enjoyable is that I can finally place the car exactly where I want it, just like in PC sims.
It’s hard to explain, but I no longer have that feeling of being on a train ready to derail at any moment.
Now the car has more consistent grip.

For these tests, I drove a Clio RS Trophy 16, an SLS AMG ’10, and a Giulia GTA M on the Nordschleife.

However, there’s one major downside for me—and it applies to all three cars—during hard braking, the vehicles turn into slithering eels and slide all over the place as if I were braking on ice.
The cars are stock, and if they behaved like this in real life, Misha would have been dead a long time ago.

Even though I have a bit of ABS, I lose control of the car completely very easily.
Actually, the rear end sways from left to right—it's really surprising.

I’ve never had this problem before in other sims with road cars.
In the older games like GT6 (I play with a wheel and low ABS too FYI) some road cars would "wobble" at the rear under braking with soft suspension and road brakes, potentially in an effort to make it feel more realistic. I don't know what the physics update is like 'cause I haven't played GT7 recently, but I used to fix this with a brake bias adjustment. However, if the cars are "sliding" into a corner due to the new grip simulation than that might not help. Curious to try this out myself soon

I took the NSX Gr.3 and 4 to set some Daily Race QTs, and to see how the patch affected them.

Understeer. Lots of understeer. Whatever happened with the horsepower nerfs and suspension settings makes it feel worse. The rear is too planted, and the front won't bite.

The tires feel OK. I can brake later, get on the throttle earlier, and recover from slides a bit better, which is nice.

Now that I've had some more time, I would say yes. At least as Gr3 cars are concerned. Haven't driven a whole bunch of others at this point but the Gr3 class is already too slow since the last time PD Nerf'ed the whole class and now they've done it again. Add to that the physics update which makes the cars that much easier to drive. Used to be about finesse and now it's just brute force. Thrown the car in, slam on the brakes, crank the wheel, and use the throttle like a binary switch, the car will respond.

It just doesn't make sense while exiting a turn the car starts to understeer.... the solution is just add more steering input. That's not how it works. If the car is understeering the fronts have started losing grip, adding more steering input would make them lose more grip not give them grip. It's the same thing under braking. Previously if you braked too late you went a bit wide and had to deal with it; now, you can crank the wheel towards the apex and the car turns.

I think the new updates have closed the skill gap and turned the race cars more arcadey than they were before.

I also love how they drop this set of updates before the North American GTWS. The European and Asian drivers didn't have to relearn how to drive their cars and get a huge BoP update right in the middle of their season. Imagine picking and qualifying in a competitive car and at the flick of the wrist within PD now it sucks. I know some of the NA drivers are less than pleased.
I can agree with the first part here. GR.3 has been negatively impacted in my opinion. Road cars have been positively impacted. I've been driving the C5, the 1988 Countach, and the 69 Camaro (not the Camaro race mod car) and those feel more planted, more responsive, and more controllable than they used to.

Weirdly the Countach is the best driving "old" supercar in the game I think. I haven't driven my 959 since the update but I can say that the F40 handling has been negatively impacted from where it was.

I also agree that the race cars are far more arcadey than they used to be. Lots of oscillation down the straights, riding a curb means you're likely coming out of that corner like you're in a 77 Cadillac Eldorado just waffling down the highway.

They also ruined those lmp1-hs' low-speed acceleration, 919 hybrid used to be able to hit 240kph at the finish line after the Ford Chicanes on Lemans, now only 230, while its terminal speed on the Mulsanne Straight is still 20kph slower than reality. With so many times of physics changes, the gr1 cars are still in a mess.
There are the physics change on a side, and the changes of some suspension and downforce values in the other side. It is the later that result in slower lap times.
As an example, they totally destroyed again Gr.1 cars, or at least all of the Hypercars which are now 20km/h slower in the straight lines and 5 seconds a lap slower at Le Mans. They just can't help themselves from twisting reality to shoehorn these cars into absurd performance boxes. That is one of the main reasons why I will always prefer the addition of road cars over race cars in GT7.

Changes made to the physics are really good as a controller player. The downside being all my setups are to be thrown away, as are all my custom race grids....

The Caterham Museum is nice, even though it lacks many photos from the early decades. Their renewed activity in 2013 is quite rich in informations, their closer ties with Alpine are even mentioned (they both went back to Le Mans around the same time : 2013 and 2014). Yet, surprisingly, they overlooked this :

This 2014 "Caterham" LMP2 car was added late in Gran Turismo 6 through an update, but with its 2013 Greaves Motorsport livery.

I hate leaderboards resets, I often bloody fight to place high on them and then PD comes to idea to just wipe them out...

And they did game far less enjoyable with gamepad.
They are going in direction of Project Cars and Assetto Corsa, games I deleted because of bad gamepad support.

I think I can throw myself into the "likes" the physics changes crowd. After acclimatizing by doing nearly 600 miles on a variety of cars, the tires now feel like actual believable rubber. I think they may have added too much downforce to some cars, for instance the LMH cars where now at stock power they barely hit 200 mph due to all the drag added. And there is that weird quirk where when you let go of the wheel/steering the car feels like it returns to center rather abruptly and then see it wiggle as a result.

I've also noticed AI making more mistakes now, but I was under the impression AI outside of Sophy don't utilize the full physics engine we have? Either way it adds more variability in the rather still processional affair non Sophy races are.
Yeah I noticed many more AI outbraking themselves into corners. Definitely different to before the update.

I might be starting to put my finger on it. It is very possible they have just "faked" more progressive grip by massively widening the useful slip angle of the tire. It feel like its not at all more progressive or granular - its just wider and forgiving. FFB (DD PRO) cant seem to report any grip changes within the working slip/steering angle. This wide usable slip angle also induces the massive steering angles we currently have. Feels almost if the wheels have steering angles made for gamepads. I hope this is just the first version of the new physics. If they dial in the angles and grip multipliers there might be something here. The at the moment dog slow MR cars seem to have more dynamic oversteer-understeer behaviour at the limit, and this gives me some hope what it might become.

Thinking back on the older games again, this kind of reminds me of the skid recovery force back in GT5-GT6. It aided the usability of the controller, but was unrealistic in a practical sense. Interesting theory of yours, their seems to be a lot of confusion/divide on what has evened changed and what is an issue and what is more realistic and enjoyable. The different characteristics between wheels and controllers isn't helping either

Its weird how some players say the cars feel wobbly and some say they dont, for me some road cars do get the wobbles and dirt driving feels awful now. What I dont understand is why a physics update now at this time of the games life? Its good they are still supporting the game but I dont understand the reason behind the update. All good though, off to try a little more. 👍

If you have a PS5 I would recommend using the motion sensors for steering. It takes a while to learn (around a month in my case) but once you get the hang of it it's a lot better than steering with the stick.

My previous lap time as Suzuka CE is now faster than the new WR:-))

It could be justified understandable if they intend to extend the life of the game more than they planned a year ago. You know, there're some little clues pointing to PS6 not coming as early as expected and thus, GT8, could as well be tied to those deadlines (even if I'm pretty sure GT8 will also be cross-gen)

In fairness you can't expect a dedicated simulator to cater to gamepad users much else it ends up hindering the physics for wheel users. Games like FH are more designed around pad users

I get that. The biggest gripe is all those tunes people made over time will need looking at again, like the last physics update. It is what it is though,we just have to get on with it.

Not everything is going to be “so easy now” like people are saying — that’s not the case.

Did a proper test of the new physics today at Suzuka Circuit Experience. Previously I was 1.9% off world record. Today, best of 5-6 attempts: 1:47.930. WR today is 1:46.965. So I’m ~1 second off, 0.9% off WR.

Here’s the thing — I had this circuit experience dialed in with muscle memory. Previous PB was ~4 seconds inside gold. Today, only ~2 seconds inside gold. Same track, same car, different physics, and I’m slower.

Braking the way I used to = massively overslowing the car now. Gear selection feels different too. My old muscle memory is actively working against me now.

And all Circuit Experience times got wiped — new gold threshold, my old PB, my new PB all showing at once. Confusing mess. Honestly not a fan of how this was handled.

I think the center wobble comes purely from FFB and thus depend on the gear you use. Maybe people are also speaking of two different wobbles. The one on the straights and the one under braking/acceleration while steering is loaded. One comes from FFB and the other from physics.

I feel you. I have several custom race grids that will need to be thoroughly revised. If it's the price to pay for a 'better game' in the end, I'm willing to pay it
