Ahh your on a pad. That makes sense. Its fantastic on a DD+ 18nm. I’m sorry about the current state of controllers however with a wheel the feelings are natural to the point where driving becomes visceral again. Whereas the prior state felt more like driving an empty box truck on a somewhat wet back road. I know thats a repeat from me but the more I think about it. The more true it rings in my brain. Hope they can fix yours without buggering ours!

It's amazing that there is always a little minority of people whining and crying every time we get a new psychics update, and these people refuse to adapt to what essentially everyone of us have received, and is also essentially the same for everyone of us. There is no issue with the new psychics update folks. The real issue, are you, you guys that refuse to adapt to it, period.
Adapt, adapt, and adapt. If you keep adapting and practicing, eventually it will come to you.
They should not dial anything back, or fixing anything, because that doesn't make sense at all. We all have it like this now, and we should all be capable of adapting to it.
Real life racing drivers go through the same thing. Some racing drivers adapt better than others. Some racing drivers driving style also makes a difference. It all makes perfectly sense right?
All that said, I do acknowledge what some of you struggle with, I do believe we all do.
Adapting is the real key. 👍🍻
So what you're saying is it's crap but get used to it. I tend to agree: I still haven't played it once since the first day, and I've got used to it.

Not sure if already posted but SuperGT has posted a video discussing the physics
His take on the new physics seems quite balanced; one thing that he highlighted that stood out to me was the steering angle when taking a corner. Races with tyre wear particularly make the angle feel unnatural, and I agree with this. I couldn't put my finger on it earlier but now I understand a bit better why it felt weird sometimes, other than the other more obvious changes like braking distance and the different characteristics of road cars and race cars. Yet to decide on my final verdict myself; I feel whatever is more realistic is better when it comes to wheel users

I am a controller user and I find myself flip flopping in terms of whether I'm enjoying the new physics or not. Sometimes it feels amazing, other times the weird sensation of the game trying to straighten up the car for me is jarring, but the absolute worst is the game countersteering for me (with countersteering assistance turned off); I guess it's trying to be helpful but it's actually annoying as I find myself fighting against the game, particularly in rally. To test it I took my Diablo to the Red Bull Ring and went to do some doughnuts, the game just automatically starts sawing at the wheel left and right constantly with no input from me, it's bizarre.

Controller user here as well. That straighint up the car feels so weird. I drove the MX5 ND in cockpitview and it felt completely off. I haven't touched the game after that anymore.

Adding more steering angle might be faster in qualifying but I wonder if the top players in race C are doing that, or steering how they did pre update to preserve tyre wear so their average laptime is better than if they pushed angle further

RS50 wheel user here. Haven’t bothered with race cars online yet cause they sound awful (low A+) but road cars, although debatable whether realistic or not, feel sooo much better now to the point that I’ve stopped racing online now and will begin to drive PP and custom races for fun.
Also, this guy seems like know what he’s talking about.

An aside, with the new normal, if your one a wheel and have multiple sizes it feels much more natural if you use smaller wheels with race cars, and larger ones with road ones

Ok so I have tried the Gr3. Z4 at CGV on hards and it felt so wierd. The tires were constantly scrubbing and it felt like there was zero grip. Still yet to try mediums and softs AND the stupid Genesis but I can definitely see how people can hate this already.
I will also try the 296 on the Ring with default and the updated setup from the video.

There's some weird stuff in the PP-formula now. Compared the Toyota GR86 RZ '21 and the Subaru BRZ S '21, which are essentially the same car, so you'd expect only differences in the <1PP range.

Toyota / Subaru
SH: 483.13 / 482.64 ... ok
SM: 500.45 / 504.94 ... what the...???
SS: 527.14 / 527.22 ... ok

I really don't know what trickery PD are doing there, but there seem to be some (not so) edge-cases that break the formula.

So, imagine you're running a race where these 2 cars are eligible - and I'm sure the Subaru is not suddenly superior when on SM tyres, but you would be able to tune the Toyota up 4 PP and get an advantage there. That's not right.

No, and you totally don't understand my viewpoint from my original post.
I've never said that the new update is crap, please direct me to that statement.
I use the word adapt in my viewpoint, I could have used the word learning.
Please watch the attached video, watch it trough, and listening to this guy, because that's what I meant, that's essentially what I mean and what I'm talking about.
Maybe I was not totally clear on that from the beginning, and i apologize, if my original viewpoint offended anyone. It was not my intention. I just hope that you all will watch the video, and then i hope that you will come to understand what I originally meant, that's all.

"Never let opportunity for learning something new get in the way of - using that for internet rage and screaming, instead of learning🙂 (I'm talking about others who instantly jumped on the hate train, first hour of update)"

I have no experience driving cars on the limit, have never raced anything, the fastest car I've ever owned is a Golf Estate, and I really don't understand anything about racing car physics.

I am simply amazed by the number of people on this forum who apparently have enough experience and understanding to pass expert judgement on the physics, enough experience to state with absolute certainty that the physics are less or more realistic.

I'm beginning to think that most people don't actually know what they're talking about, this is the only way to explain why we are seeing such a diverse range of opinions.

I've been on and off iracing for over 15 years. Loads of different setups, wheels etc. But, in my humble opinion and taking a very specific example - Suzuka & the RSR. GT7 is miles more enjoyable on a decent DD wheel. More realistic... No idea, I don't have an RSR sat on the drive but I know I enjoy blasting round Suzuka on GT7 more than iracing.

I read you. Whether some have real racing experience or not, each person will play differently and feel these virtual cars differently. Some can look past those feelings in performance and keep enjoying the game. Some understand the physics and may choose not to play any longer. Some understand the changes and continue to adapt. We all have the choice to play or not. To criticise, to use game expertise and educate for those that may not understand or notice changes and the effects.

It’s one of many reasons why I don’t shoot anyone down for their opinions. Doesn’t affect how I choose to play.

Just to ramble on a little bit. Just a little. I post various racing. From old cars to new race cars. What I see are the drivers making lots of corrections during a lap. Driving on the edge has so many factors. The temperature, track surface, tyre set up, the driver/pilot, fuel in the tank, the rigidity of the chassis, many more factors.
I’m on controller and when I set up my cars, I want them to behave like those cars. I don’t want a smooth ride. I don’t get the same feeling as someone using a wheel. However, I still get the immersive thrill of driving at 10/10ths. If the physics continue to change so be it. I’m still going to tune to keep that thrill.

I have had cars that I had to keep in the garage because the tuning was way off due to a change. With the recent changes, adjusting some set ups, I can use all my favourites now.

Now that my brain has "rewired" to steering beyond the limit of grip and adapting to these physics, my enthusiasm for playing how I have for over a year has diminished (mostly, driving stock cars in custom races and gradually completing missions, ce, licences, weekly challenges etc).

There's fun to be had, but because fundamental things are so broken it's too disjointed for me to invest any real time in which is so disappointing as it's one of the only games I play atm.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It's my point of view that if you have to re learn something then what you are doing is something completely new. So either the game has been crap for the last 29 years and is now good, or they've ruined the greatest driving sim ever.
I've stopped playing.

It's not determined by a formula, but by a simulation. If the cars are more or less the same, then there's probably some edge case occurring with the SM tyres, which means the 4 PP advantage would go away by a minor tuning adjustment.

In this scenario there is no definite black or white "the game has been/is now rubbish." we're talking handling physics here, and to an extant that boils down to whether you like it or not. Gran Turismo could've had so-so physics in the past and completely different so-so physics now, but it's hard to judge from any one person's viewpoint because it's hard to distinguish "I don't like it" from "this is unrealistic."

It's a simulation, so it's all based on what you feel, and this is why we need input from real-life drivers. Just because you have to relearn something doesn't mean it was particularly rubbish on either end of the update, nor does it mean it was particularly great.

Are there controller users that can recommend mid PP (450-600) stock road cars that are are really good and/or fun to drive now?

I experienced some that are ok without being able to mention a particularly great one and some weird ones that I will not touch again in the current state, like the 911 Lightweight that i can't cope with and the Alpine A110 17' that has some aggressive lift of oversteer now, which seems very out of character.

A shame, I was never able to drive the old Alpine, it's just to hard for me how wobbly and unpredictable it is. No matter what physics version.

I've never played with a wheel, but from everything I've read since the changeover it seems that you need to spend a couple of thousand on a top gaming rig setup to make GT7 viable now. I can't do that because 1) I haven't got a spare room to dedicate to it, and 2) My wife would leave me if she thought I was that childish.
Playing on a controller felt like a really badly executed arcade game following 1.71, so I've got no choice but to quit. I do feel a bit angry that PD have just been so blase about writing off all the controller users, but hey, there are more important things in life.

Controller is still perfectly viable

I don't see why you'd need to spend thousands of euros.

In France, you can find used DD Pros for 500 euros.

And the most important thing is that even if it costs more than 1,000 euros, it’s a long-term investment.

You start with a basic setup mounted on a wooden desk + pedals that will eventually crack and fall apart after a few months.
Then you buy a cheap rig.
You get into a fight with your wife, and a few days later it’s forgotten.

And then you invest in Fanatec or Moza.
A best rig, more fight with your girlfriend.

And the experience is exceptional (not wife, the wheel the Fanatec products I’ve owned have lasted me for years, especially my 2.5, which has been with me for over 8 years (not with my last girlfriend ).

I’ll never go back to my controller (and girlfriend) (except for rally, which is awful behind the wheel).

Do you use the D pad to steer? Like on the original PlayStation? Or the analogue stick?

Yesterday I was driving Hypercars on a wheel and when my arms got tired I switched to the pad. Both are perfectly viable methods, nobody needs a wheel although they are fun and I remain married (for now).

Personally I like the new physics and driving feel, but the tyres are overly grippy for my taste. I would keep the physics but make RS the level of RH, just dial all the tyres back. And increase the HP of GT4 and GT3 BOP.

Sorry to hear about your wife that doesn't support your hobbies man.

Controller is still perfectly fine. Pace wise I would say there is no difference, maybe just turn down your steering sensitivity if you're struggling but if it's an arcade game now as you say how would a wheel be any easier?
Everyone else adapted in about half a day, really not that much changed fundamentally. I'm sure you can manage too.

I find that a bit alarming. It shouldn't be that sensitive.

It's a massive improvement. Now the PP differences are more reflective of slight differences in the base car. I haven't checked the 86/BRZ to verify, but I suspect there are slight differences that will cause that 4 PP difference. Will it mean a massive difference across hundreds of thousands of players? Probably not.

To say the game "felt like a really badly executed arcade game following 1.71" is so far off base, that I question if you actually played it or imagined this in a dream. If the game is not "viable" for you with a controller, that is 100% a you problem.
