Just went down to the shopping centre and pre-ordered the standard edition of the game. Since GT5:P was sold-out within the first day... I could only imagine what GTA4 would be like. So I'm happy to confirm that my copy is now secured... and for $100AUD... which is quite good, considering it's $120 everywhere else.

Cannot wait for the online modes... me and my friends are going to have a blast . Online chat sounds great... and the mini games... well, everything sounds great! 👍 👍

GT5:P + GTA4 … why would you need anything else?

I was going to do the same, but I am weary at the moment and am waiting for news on what is sensored from the Australian version of the game now that we have reports Australia is getting a special censored version.

When I find out I may still buy the Aus version stright away (april 29th) and import another or just wait till I'm in the US again in late may (then trade in the sensored version for another game).

All over the GTA community, apparently a Rockstar rep mentioned it, and apperently soon a statement is coming out with what has been modified for the Australian release. Nothing is in stone though, it maybe a load of crap in the end.

I think some places are saying ratings for the Aus. title list 4 things instead of the usual 6. Strong Course Language, Strong Violence (instead of Intense Violence), Drugs (instead of Drugs & Alcohol), something else, and it doesn't list blood like others.

Not a confirmation, though.

I've not been following the GTAIV online news closely, but am I right in thinking that there's going to be various online events? As in free-for-all violence, team vs. team events, online racing, etc.?

I like the idea of GTPlanet setting up teams for online play, either to play each other or to avoid the general crazy mayhem of Xbox Live by devising teams that can get online and have mucho fun with freeform madness.

But having said that, first things first, we gotta play through the game when it's released, complete the missions, score 100%, setup a record book, and then we can got crazy online.

Yes there will be online play and a lot of it including 16 player free roam with cops, pedestrians, cars, bikes and even helicopters! :sly:

OXM
http://forums.xbox.com/19326878/ShowPost.aspx

The Official Xbox Magazine has some small new details on GTA4's multiplayer. Some of which is exactly what we wanted to hear.

* In all multiplayer modes, the entire Liberty City is available. The host chooses which area people respawn in (the main battle area) but you can go wherever you like.
* Your online character can be male or female.
* The host can determine if Friendly fire and auto aim is enabled or not.
* Money determines your rank online.
* You can get money by killing people or picking it up from around dead bodies.
* Voice chat is included in the game. The host can set how it works:
o Everyone hears you.
o Only teams can hear each other.
o Proximity chat (presumably you can only hear people close to you).
* In race mode anything goes. Use helicopters, boats, or even run across the finish line. If you're first, you win.
* Shooting and driving is pretty difficult.
* In Cops N' Crooks, all players can respawn when killed apart from the main boss. As the boss you either get to the objective and escape, or die and lose.
* You can skim rockets across the ground if aimed correctly.
* Free roam has no rules or cash, and the host can set which weapons are allowed.
* OXM believed that free roam will be GTA IV's killer feature and said it was incredible fun and they believe it will last for years.
* OXM also state that according to Rockstar, perfecting the online multiplayer is the reason the game was delayed.

and here is some more

Play magazine in the UK have a new 8 page preview of GTA4 which includes some new information on the games multiplayer. While there's no major new information, we do have some more details on what we previously heard last week.

* When playing Single Player, simply bring up your mobile phone and launch the multiplayer feature. You can then invite your friends and set up the game.
* Options which can be configured by the host include:
o Time of day
o Which vehicles can be used (mainly for race modes)
o Which weapons can be used
o How much traffic will spawn
o The game location
o The weather
o If you want police to chase players or not
* The more you play online, the more stuff you'll be able to unlock to customize your character. You'll start off with simple accessories like t-shirts and sunglasses, and as you play, you'll unlock new items.
* Pedestrians have more of a purpose and will carry out a number of random actions. Play magazine saw a pedestrian spraying graffiti on the side of a shop.
* Multiplayer will support a maximum of 16 players. Different gametypes can support different numbers of players, and some require a certain amount of players before they can take place.

Further details on multiplayer gametypes and the number of players allowed:

* Deathmatch: 2-16 Players.
* Team Deathmatch: 2-16 Players (up to 8 teams of 2 players).
* GTA Race: 1-16 Players.
* Mafia Work: 2-8 Players.
* Team Mafia Work: 2-16 Players (up to 8 teams of 2 players).
* Cops N' Crooks: 4-16 Players (in two teams).
* Hangman's NOOSE: 2-4 Players.
* Free Mode: 1-16 Players.

Sounds like serious loads of fun to be had with the multiplayer.

I mentioned 100% above. I can't even be sure I'll get it. In Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories, I never got 100%. I didn't even finish the main plot of VCS.

But I suppose this might be a bit different and if the game is as compelling as some of the other games in the series, than 100% might be a goal. Plus, it gives you good bragging rights.

30-35 hours for the main storyline? Sounds about the same as San Andreas.

I am a huge fan of the GTA series and I will be perfectly honest. I have never finished any of the campaign games 100%. I always had more fun messing around with other things in the game and would never end up finishing the story mainly because some of the missions were brutal hard. I put hundreds of hours into each one. However this is one campaign I will finish 100% for sure. 👍
Oh that 30-35 hour is if you know exactly what to do and where to go and rush as fast as possible. Its estimated closer to 70-100 hours long for the casual gamer that isnt using cheats or a strategy guide.

Hahaha, Karl Lagerfeld (Chanels fashion guy) is in GTAIV..:sly: makes him the second guy to appear as himself in a GTA game the first being Phil Collins in VCS. I wonder what missions you will be doing for him!. I like the cartoony GTA artwork..

karl%20lagerfield.jpg

From the vaults of 'you couldn't make this up' comes the news that noted fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director of Chanel, is going to appear as a character in the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto It's due on the 29th April, fashion/crazy driving fans. And yes, I totally had to check with Ms Catwalk Queen to find out which fashion house he worked for...

Not only is he getting cartoonified, he's also going to feature as one of the radio DJs who's station you can listen to whilst playing the game.

The only GTAs that I completed 100% were Vice City & GTA III. San Andreas had those RC missions which crippled me.

I'll probably complete the main story in GTA 4 in about 70-90 hours, but that's only playing about 4-5 hours an evening. People with no jobs (Robin etc :) ) will be hitting this 10+ hours a day. Yes I'm jealous.

I will have the entire week off paid so hopefully I can spend quite a bit of that time playing GTA4. I also have quite a few car projects I need to do too so thats going to take away from the GTA4 time.

I'm off on the Tuesday so I need to get some multiplayer action in with you that day.

Getting 100% is one thing, getting 1000/1000 achievements will be another.

I was curious to know what kind of Achievements there'll be for the Xbox version, so I Googled it and found the following list:

Rockstar comments on the Aus. copy.
http://blogs.theage.com.au/screenplay/archives/009138.html

If you don't know, the content listed on the ratings may be a clue as to what's different.

In US/EU versions, the ESRB/whoever else is rates the following:
  • Partial Nudity
  • Strong Language
  • Strong Sexual Content
  • Use of Drugs & Alcohol
  • Blood
  • Intense Violence

In the AUS. version, these are listed:
  • Strong Violence
  • Strong Coarse Language
  • Drug And Sexual References

I didn't say it was an answer, just possibly a clue.

But, in better news, Grand Theft Auto IV will NOT be delayed!
http://spong.com/detail/editorial.jsp?eid=10109761&cid=&tid=&pid=&plid=&page=4

So, what did I glean? It was confirmed that the game modes are all finished and are identical on the PS3 and 360 versions. Co-op is playable in the multi-player mode, like we’ll be doing later, but it’s not a full story like the single-player is. The rating’s all sorted in the UK as an 18 but the problems in Australia are far from over. Despite what certain toolish analysts might have indicated on certain webcasts, the release date is DEFINITE.

Well Rockstar does say the cuts are "not significant" and I think Rockstar is dedicated to their game so I'm hoping they wouldn't be lieing. I interpret it as insignificant cuts that will not lessen the amount of fun you have with the game.

Its complete crap.

PS3 has no region lock so muss well just buy the UK version.

Any idea where you would get it from?

Anyone know if the US version will differ at all? Like in Multiplayer? My only concern is that I wont be able to play in Australian host/servers using a US version, sort of like JP GT5P online doesn't race against EU/AUS GT5P online players.

I am thinking of getting the US version, because for one I will be in the US next month and for two I could order the US version from Play-asia.

Multiplayer in any game on the Xbox 360 is not rated because these companies can not officially rate how folks will act & speak online. So, yes, it should be the same multiplayer experience.

That's awesome, i can't wait to work for Playboy X.

I like ElectroChoc a lot, but i'm pretty disappointed in Liberty City Hardcore! That's Punk, dammit!

I look forward to Vladivostok FM the most. ElectroChoc sounds ok.

I don't think he meant in content... he meant can he play with AUS mates with a US copy (due to some online games only allowing you to play on servers of that games region).

I want to know this also.. nowadays full games usually do allow world wide online (prologue is not a full game so maybe thats why its region limited). If you can invite from your friends list then it shouldn't matter too much.

I will probably be buying the US version, it seems like it might be the only one which aint capped! :sly: Plus it will be cheaper than the UK version.

Yeah, you are right, that is what I meant.

I don't know if anyone else has posted it, but there appears to be a reference to a MySpace clone on the page for the BitterSweet. Its on the tips section of the BS page.

"Check your email, update your shopping list, schedule a dentist appointment, put in a booty call, catch up on the news and update your MyRoom page all while jaywalking through busy traffic. You're getting things done! You're mobile."

In that case, I still don't see why not. I can play people in France & the UK just fine on the Xbox 360, though I don't know if that's what he's getting it on. Then again, if the PS3's Blu-Ray isn't region locked to a disc, I don't see why the servers would act any different (that you can't play AUS copies with a US/UK copy).

Playboy will be hilarious. I love Niko's response to him.

I actually have the AUS version pre-ordered at EBGames. But I'm seriously thinking of canceling it and getting a US version from Play-asia, hopefully they say exactly what has been cut before release.
