Yeah, and now I have to browse this thread with images turned off. Go 56k.

now we only need to post another 38 posts so i dont have to load the images also

Excellent work 👍 I look forward to this game so much.

Some new information:
  • You can now see Bus timetables and schedules, and also board the bus for transport for a small fee.
  • When Niko pulls out a weapon, the camera positions itself above Niko's shoulder and a small crosshair appears. This may be an indication that manual aim will take more of a part in the game, however you can still lock on to a target (and remain locked on) like in previous games.
  • Stealing a car can no longer be done simply by opening a door and driving off. If the car is locked, you will have to break the window to get in and hotwire the car.
  • Niko can climb wherever possible - fire escapes, telephone poles, etc. Some meetings will take place at the top of office buildings and skyscrapers, and you will be able to throw people off them.
  • As further indication of the graphical advancements, you can through things such as grates in the ground, which may have sewers or subways below them, and the light trickles realistically around the iron bars.
  • Philip Glass, the author of the soundtrack of the first trailer, will be involved in the production of GTA IV's soundtrack.
  • There will be an Easter-European dance station.
  • Dan Houser says they will "certainly be evolving the way the radio works". Stay tuned. :p
  • At the time of the making of this article in Xbox Magazine, GTA IV was 66% complete.
  • Hand-to-hand combat is said to be reworked, and will be "much more natural" than previous GTA games.
  • Boats are confirmed, and the handling is said to be "really nice".
  • Players will be able to change their camera views whilst in a car according to their needs. This however is said to still being experimented on, and that Rockstar want to give better control and "immediacy" to players.
  • Upon selecting your mobile phone, the camera will zoom in and you will be able to use its address book to pitch for jobs from gang members, among many other things.
  • Dan confirms Central Park will be in the game. Its fictional name is unknown.
  • Police behaviour and their reaction to crimes is "certainly evolving". Nothing further was said about this..
  • GTA IV will be much more serious than previous games (although don't exclude the humuor surrounding you on billboards, etc), but "fun, ridiculous weapons" will be available.

I wonder what 'fun, ridiculous weapons' we'll get.

I wonder if that means we can drive buses around, and get $5 for every person we picked up. I must have been the only person who liked that in GTA:VC.

Very cool info in there.

Blake
Probably a return of the old favourites: rocket launchers, flame-throwers, mini guns, etc.
I would say so.

I also thought that was a really cool feature. I've always wanted a non time-limit taxi system (something akin to GTA2 where you drive around and people just hop into your cab, but a bit more advanced), and also the ability to catch buses and taxis (which I'm very pleased to hear is available).

I love the whole "having to break a car window and hotwire to steal a car" thing. I'm also really looking forward to the whole mobile phone thing.

I wonder how the cops have evolved? Possibly just a lot smarter, hiding behind cars, etc in shoot-outs. I hope they employ a Mafia (the game) style system with the law enforcement, though..

Oh yeah GTA4 is definetly combining everything from Crackdown and Saints Row and pretty much all the other sandbox style games all in one ultimate game. This is a very very good thing. I was very happy when I read the part about climbing everything and the buildings. Thats EXACTLY what Crackdown does and it adds a lot of vertical game play. 👍 👍

News is starting to come left right and centre..
  • During the demo, when Niko passed an ATM machine a message appeared on the screen indicating a button to press in order to access his funds. Nothing more official is discussed about this, though it would appear that you'll likely be able to deposit and subtract money from the various ATM machines across the game.
  • As part of GTA IV's new physics, you'll be able to hear/feel the base of vehicles passing by with their radio turned on.
  • Rockstar says that the usual GTA driving controls have been tremendously tweaked and enhanced.
  • When selecting a contact on your mobile phone, a list of several commands are made available to the player, such as "meet me here" etc.
  • Playing the single player game through co-operative mode is not possible, however there will be a co-op mode in addition to all the other unknown multiplayer modes.
  • According to Dan Houser, VP of Creative for Rockstar Games, they haven't yet figured out if GTA IV is going to spark off another set of GTA games connected to it, and they're currently just focusing on this single game. He does say he "would have a certain confidence" setting GTA outside the United States, such as England in the future.
  • When asked about a San Andreas Stories for the PSP, he replies saying that they don't have any plans for that at the moment, suggesting that they likely haven't started at all on another GTA PSP title.
I am absolutely loving things here. The ATM prospect is very exciting, I think, and leaves the door wide open for things. You could possibly withdraw cash from your account and carry a chosen amount of money on you, and leave the rest in your bank. That also leaves the door open to getting mugged, meaning you will have to restrict how much you carry around on you.

The stereo coming through the cars is really cool. Extremely cool if they're tuned into the radio stations and you can make out slightly what they're listening to.

I wonder just how massive the radio stations will be. Maybe you could continually download updates from the internet?

I'm not sure about having a future GTA set in England again, though. I'm not sure they can really pull that off..

Even so.. God I can't wait for this game!

Jimmy I am under the impression you never played Crackdown or Saints Row? Those games already have the car stereo part in them. You can actually tell if its a gang members car approaching, police, or just civilians driving by. You seemed very excited about that so I assumed you never played Crackdown or Saints Row. The ATM part is really cool.

Just an update on the previous list of information, taken from Planet Grand Theft Auto:
  • The editors of the magazine saw pedestrians reading newspapers, people gesturing as they talked on public phones and people sitting and chatting at bus stops. Some of them even visibly flicked dust off of their trousers.
  • When pedestrians get too close to Niko (the main character), he "pushes them aside."
  • As a car passed by the main character, the controller vibrated to the bass emanating from inside.
  • You can be mugged by other criminals.
  • You can bribe characters.
  • Niko has the opportunity to deposit and withdraw money via an automatic teller machine (ATM).
  • In the demo presented to the editors, Niko entered an apartment, gun drawn. The apartment had multiple rooms including a loungeroom and kitchen. Niko exited through a back doorway/window into an alley where "piles of litter, weeds and homeless guys huddling around fires in barrels" were present.
  • In the demo, Niko was struck by a car. He realistically fell to the ground and then got back up.
  • Houser said that the goal for the game is to "create a game that feels like the ultimate gangster crime experience and on the other hand, it's to create a game that feels like the ultimate living in a modern city experience."
  • The eating and body-building features from San Andreas will not be in GTA IV because Rockstar "wanted to focus on physics more and they got kind of conflicting."
  • Elements of terrorism will be in the game, but there will not be a Ground Zero for the World Trade Center. I am in no way saying that you play a terrorist. If you are a politician or you work for one and you are reading this, you better not be an idiot.

This game will be massive. Probably the potential to be the most sold console game (bar Mario)?

I don't think it will even beat GTA VC or SA, due to the fact PS2 and Xbox were very well established by they time those games came out (xbox GTA release being later than the PS2). GTA 4 should certainly increase sales of current generation hardware though.

I agree with Jay. It has the potential, sure. But with the price of the PS3 being so large still, and people still either waiting for the price to drop, or just being content still with the PS2, Xbox, etc., it's not going to come anywhere near the top sellers of all time. It will definitely emerge as the biggest selling PS3 game, and will be a very big contender for GOTY, though.

We'll get a fair chunk more details in the July OPM, I believe, which will probably reach the internet in early July.

New screenshot just released a few minutes ago, it seems. It's not too big, which is a shame, but still nice to get screenshots!

Unfortunately since it's so small you can't get a very good look at the details but you can tell even from that photo the graphics are jaw-dropping! :D

I dunno, I just never felt comfortable as a 6 foot tall black man walking around in a gimp suit and carrying an 18 inch dildo. I always felt like I stood out just a little too much.

I haven't been around the GTA forum for ages. Time to get involved I think. I'll start by saying this game will be superb.
