Yeah exactly. I've had my PS3 not even 3 weeks, just having some demos, GT5P and other game data installed I've only got 18GB left.

Might have to have a HD upgrade sooner than I expected.

I dont care if it takes 20 to install it, it would still be worth it. Ive got a 120HD in my 360 so yes i am installing it on there. It will be able to read from the HD so much faster than a disk, and will also save the reader some hours of working time. I have a HD in my PS2 that i just rip games to and it saves so much time as far as load times goes.

BTW, what's with all this install business anyways. I'm confused... is it only a PS3 thing?

Because a hard drive is much faster than an optical drive, on the PS3 the game is installed to the hard drive which improves performance.

On the Xbox360, because only some of them have hard drives, you have the option to either install to your hard drive or run just from the DVD. Supposedly, installing it improves performance.

Oh ok. Well I have a base 360 and last time I saw I have 9.4gigs of space left so I doubt I have enough room to install it.

9.4 gigabytes is way more than enough space to install console games.

Or most PC games, for that matter.

Oh. I didn't know. I figured with how games are these days they'd take more space then before.

It for sure makes a difference. On my PS2 i have vice city installed on my HD in it. You know how in between areas theres that nice long loading screen? Well after its on the HD there isn't a loading screen at all. Wonderful. Also on GT3 how before races there is the little bit of loading, now with it on my HD there isn't any loading there either, just straight to racing with no waiting:tup: Its for sure much better because it just reads the information way faster, and saves your optical drive, whats not to like?

But the Blu-ray/X360 DVD drives read information a lot faster than the PS2 drive ever did, so the loading times of new games may not be affected on HDD as much as they did running PS2 games off an HDD.

No doubt it still makes a difference, but not enough to warrant having to install so many games onto the PS3 HDD.

Newer optical drives are faster, but games also contain much more data, so the faster optical drive can be canceled out by the fact that more data needs to be loaded from the disc.

From what I've read the 360 version has been compressed so that it doesn't need to be installed. The PS3 has a Blu Ray which can hold the data without being compressed, but the Blu Ray drive reads slower so frequently accessed information needs to be installed.

I hope the 360 version has the option to install, just to make gameplay that little bit smoother.

It does have the option to install and a preview I read says that it does improve performance - apparently there are minor framerate issues on the Xbox version that dissappear when it's installed to the HDD.

It's the first game I've known to have an option for install.

It's worth the time and space then to install it.

Ditto.

You do know most folks still have a X360 with the 20Gig hard drive right? So I doubt Rockstar will make it so you have to sacrifice half your space.

Plus, as said before, that's way more than most PC games. GTA:SA on the PC only required 5GB.

Same here, but I'll be doing it.

Oblivion was a massive game and that didn't require install, although it could be the pace of the action in GTA IV which requires the data to be readily accessible.

5gigs is still half my memory but it's well worth it so if it were that high i'd still do it.

I wonder how much space it will need, I think I only have about 2gigs free. I better delete some demo's and video's. :D

8 days to go! 👍

I agree, I wish it was tomorrow. :D

Im so ready for this that i will be at gamestop at midnight to pick up my copy. I can't sleep anyways so i might as do something good with my time other than spin around in my bed. Got to get a jump on the multiplayer before my friend does:sly:

Oh, right. I guess nearly every new site these days has flash elements in it.

New Audio Q&A on Games Radar, Click Me! Sounds good. :sly:

Check out this screenshot.

You can see a body wedged between the two vehicles, ouch.
Actually that body you see is the driver, after he flew thru the windshield upon impact. One of the coolest features they got from Saints Row. :sly:
On a side note. Only 8 more days!!!

I just had a call from Gamestation to confirm which version of GTA IV I wanted. I asked when they were recieving stock and he sort of hesitated. I think they have it now and are reserving the pre-orders.

Almost every single store has GTA4 right now. Any huge title like this always gets shipped about a week early so it can be released for sure on the promised ship date. Which in this case is the 29th.
I am glad I wont be downloading this. I can just imagine all the problems with the entire world trying to download the game at midnight. No thanks I will just put the game in and play.

Is it being offered as a download on the PS3 then? That's crazy, it would take ages in the first few days with so many people trying to download it.

oblivion had 20-second load times.

Yep, the game went gold on the 17th.

It's a-comin'; and as Zelnick said, "trucks are rolling next week and there will be a lot of them."

Zelnick is the Take-Two President.
