Gravel: New Off-Road Racer Coming to PS4, XB1 & PC Early 2018

No, vibration cannot be turned off on the controller. And there is no multi-class racing, either.

What is with these guys and force-feedback? I know there are people who like the feedback but I don't like the shaking in my hands, it makes them get tired quicker. Such a simple option offered by most racing games out there, yet, as far back as I can remember, their games never had this. Thanks for the reply Pfei.

In an equally bizarre move, you can't use photomode if you use a wheel!

However you can turn off vibration on your PS4.

If anyone here has experience with Baja: Edge of Control HD, is Gravel much better or on par? I'm asking because B:EOC HD is on sale for 8.99 on PSN and I was hoping it can hold me over until Gravel drops in price.

Thanks

I have both, here's a look at Baja.

For 8.99 Baja is worth it in my view, even if it's not the greatest port around.

Upcoming DLCs...

Ford hrx looks like the Mitsubishi racing lancer.
Edit:nevermind it is a Mitsubishi with a Ford written in with crayon

Buying the special edition of Gravel was a gamble, but seeing the DLC roadmap seems slighty reassuring. I'm more interested in the track packs, the game feels at its peak when you are driving on the lengthier stages of cross country environments.

Ahead of the Ice & Fire expansion release tomorrow, Gravel has received another update on the PS4 (Xbox patch should be following shortly). Fixes include:

- Fixed active gameplay commands enabled in Game Options from the Online Pause Menu.
- Fixed incorrect music transition when leaving the online lobby
- Fixed minor issues in Game mode description for Capture the Flag and King in several languages
- Fixed duplicate wooden fences in Namibia layouts
- Fixed UI for unlocked tracks/liveries on the Rewards page at the end of Championship events
- Fixed an issue where the game entered an unresponsive state when exiting the Replay in specific layouts
- Fixed minor framerate stutters in Alaska layouts
- Fixed an issue where the outer wall did not completely block the area in Iceland online arena
- Fixed starting camera during Replay for Stadium tracks
- Fixed an issue where an incorrect element was displayed below the Hummer H3
- Minor fixes in poser objects position in Namibia layouts
- Fixed an issue where an incorrect position may be displayed at the end of Time Attack events
- Fixed an issue where opponents may not be displayed in the minimap
- Fixed an issue where the game may remain stuck if failing to load the vehicle in the background of the Main Menu
- Fixed an issue where the game may display incorrect result positions and timings after online matches
- Improved detection of high-speed manoeuvre to avoid interruption from small bumps
- Improved post process effects in every track
- Improved the running start position for Las Vegas in Time Attack modes
- Improved water and raindrop particles effect on screen in rainy weather and when crossing streams
- Improved UI for Championship Winner page in Championship events
- Improved track loading images for online matches
- Improved warning message for Restart in Weekly Challenges
- Improved shadows for helicopter
- Improved difficulty tuning for Smash Up events
- Improved tuning for default laps in online matches
- Improved tuning for timers during online matches
- Changed gap time in Leaderboards to reference the first time instead of the previous position one
- The Winner event in online matches is now displayed for a longer time
- Vote is now automatically casted at random if timer ends in public voting for players which did not vote
- Introduced a HUD option to remove the display of the Show Points combo counter
- Introduced a blinking effect to vehicles after Respawn and when in a not-collidable state
- Introduced a random balloting phase after voting in online matches
- Improved cast distance for shadows

I really like the Ice & Fire DLC. Lots of ice, but no fire anywhere. The tracks are more technical than Alaska and Namibia. There is snow, ice, mud and asphalt... sometimes all of them in the same stage. A very well-done map.

And a Gravel first: Iceland has a few paved two-lane roads in it.

I was looking for a game to satisfy my Sega Rally fix... Is this any similair in handling to Sega rally?

I think I have noticed the audio of the engines in Cockpit view (PS4 Pro) seem much louder than before and much better? Also some slight graphical LOD improvements of the terrain. I then gave in! after watching @Scaffs video and brought the Season Pass for all the upcoming tracks and cars.

If you like Sega Rally you'll love Gravel. The handling is deeper but very accessible
Really only got interested when i found out the developer created Screamer 1/2/rally.. which I lovend back in my pc/3dfx days of gaming! Downloaden the demo now... does the gameplay in the demo reflect the game well?

I never tried the demo but I believe it's only one snow track. Definitely not representative of the full game.

... does the gameplay in the demo reflect the game well?

As @Pfei said, it is not representative of the game in its current state (as of speaking, the PS4 version is one patch ahead of the Xbox version). The game received a substantial patch around the time of the demo release which significantly improved the visuals, and according to @torque99 , the latest patch has improved sounds too.

I guess the demo is fairly representative in terms of physics, don't think much has changed there.

Yep tested again the cockpit sound in most the cars I use are definitely much louder now on my headphones set up I use.

The iceland dlc beach race no2 track with the plane taking off over you is a great fast track with extreme racing cars. The tarmac screaches and you can feel it slide on the roads.

I do take it back milestone. With each patch it is turning into a great game. No regrets now on season pass.

Graphics are pretty good especially the new Iceland tracks.

Is the multiplayer still unpopulated (PS4) or is it easy to find a game now?
Hope someone can help me out with some info.
Thanks in advance!

@Docker Al

It's not unpopulated but poorly implemented. The ticker starts once someone joins so it's difficult for the lobby to be around long enough for multiple people to join. I did manage to amass five people a couple times. The other problem is you can't join a lobby that's already racing. So you end up with the multiplayer user base splintered and spread out through multiple lobbies.

I hope they change that by allowing to search and join lobbies, even if they are racing. And get rid of the AI cars that fill the grid while they're at it.

@Pfei
Thanks for the response. I was already concerned about the developers plans to split the online community down the middle with paid content.
I normally refuse to support games that adopt such practices but I'm just really keen for a decent online arcade racer on PS4.

Clearly Gravel isn't that game.

Recently tried the Baja game and the most recent Flatout but the multiplayer modes in both were ghost towns from day 1.

Happily playing GTS currently, but would love a successful online arcade racer to mix things up.

There just aren't any.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, though, to see if things improve with Gravel.
