I know people are going to still be smarting about online play with GT4. I think PD tried as hard as they could. But sometimes, you don't always get what you want. Then also sometimes when you try to accomplish a task all to come up short, some things aren't meant to be. In the past on GTPlanet, I was like "online play should never be the most important aspect of a game unless the game was a sports game or a game MADE for multiplay." Examples include Super Smash Bros. Melee, Unreal Tournament, almost any sports game from Electronic Arts from Madden to NASCAR, the Unreal Championship/Tournament series, and dare I say... the HALO series. But you know what? I don't really have a bunch of people I know online in order to even warrant wanting to play against someone online. A LAN party would be fun, but again, I don't have any amigos who I can try to take down in Gran Turismo 4. So I'm not going to be totally bothered. Now, I'm not trying to totally be against the notion of online play, it's just that I don't really use it, and don't know any real good opponents I can play against.

I'm being truthfully honest and mellow. I'm not trying to be one-sided on this, because every argument has at least one side to it. Probably when I was into my first weeks and months on GTPlanet, I was probably playing Grand Theft Autos 3 and Vice City. I was playing "True Crime: Streets of LA." I was reacqainting myself to GT3. I did some Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3. I was primarily calm about all of this. And like a tiger ready to pounce, I'll await the moment when GT4 hits stores, and hope to have enough money to get my own copy next week, or as soon as I can.

As a bold prediction, I think this game will likely become a Greatest Hit in one year. If the fans REALLY couldn't wait, then at least 6 months, it will be $19.82 USD.

JohnBM01 - I didn't know anyone that played SOCOMII online, but with the microphone you get to know people and have fun playing with them. Also, real people are more of a challenge than AI could ever be. I hope that PD figures out online for the GT series, but as I said I'm not going to be dissapointed with this game unless it is total dog poo. I would go out on a limb and say 90% of people would enjoy racing online more than against the computer. So, if it ever does go online you better at least try it for me, ok?

BloodyBooger
i have one. what kinds of hardware problems are you referring to? no problems with mine so far.
Might be talking about the fact that the square button has been discovered to be less responsive than the other buttons. You can read about it here

At one point, I was thinking about at least renting SOCOM II. I'm not really a war-based gamer. If I played, it would have to be Unreal Tournament or something. I can understand it (online play) being fun, but I'm not seriously bothered by not having it in the game. I'm more old-fashioned and old school.

I can understand the point of online play when it comes to AI. You face different players of different playing styles. One of the biggest criticisms involving racing games (or most other games of that nature) is that online play virtually takes away having to worry about rude AI. GT4's AI isn't perfect, and I can say the same for 25,000 other racing games. One comment I made about this was that for people to say that not having online play in a game like GT4 is like saying that actual people can race in Gran Turismo better than what PD programs. To me, that sickens me. Why so? If I worked for PD and someone said that Gran Turismo's AI is s***ty, this is like saying that a company that can make a great racing game can't devote even 110% of their time on AI. It begins to sound like PD (much less any company) can't even make decent enough AI to the point where even the AI developers can't even create actually intelligent race drivers in the game. All I'm saying here is that... at least the AI doesn't try to ruin your race every step of the way. I recently played "Pro Race Driver." I was in a Koenigsegg C62 (or whatever that Porsche 962 replica was) racing against custom opponents in Toyota GT1s and TVR Speed 12s. When I was trying to brake hard at a race at Fuji, dude rammed into my ass from the back, took off my rear bodywork, and I crashed into the tire wall hard. If you ask me, I'd curse out Codemasters like hell for their thuggish AI. Before you talk about ANY GT's AI, please for the freaking love of God play "Pro Race Driver." Think GT's AI sucks? Play this game, THEN look at GT.

So, I hate this notion of no online play and crappy AI. I've played worse.

I haven't played GT4 yet, but even if it is the same AI from GT3 I could say I have played A LOT WORSE AI. I haven't played race driver, but I have played TOCA race driver 2 - is it the same game or a sequel? I didn't like the AI in that game - it was another codemasters abomination. I'm not trying to say that the AI in GT4 will be sh**ty, I am just saying that I don't think there is enough space on a dual layer DVD to put all the code in GT4 in order to have the AI act like humans. Human ability to learn/adapt/predict is impossible to code. Even a realistic understanding of action/reaction is impossible to code. Could the AI be better in GT4? probably, but it would take so long it wouldn't be worth it. PD made a great game and I will have fun with it, but I will also be racing online with GT4 as soon as they fix whatever has been holding them back.

Okay, it's the 22nd o' Feb. So what's the verdict. Has the garage battles resurfaced in the US version. And furthermore, what about garage-LAN battles. Is it possible?

I'm wondering the same.

Why don't you get it from your buddy in the "online department"...hahaha. Joke only.

ANyway, he must have missed the GT4 we are talking about...because everything you said he didn't say was in, is in...which is slightly confusing.

ANywho, Garage battels are in, that is all that's important. Sweet stuff.

Hope you get yours soon, I got a free copy plus one in a tourney :) it was fun.

Searched but cant find confirmation about Car horsepower stats before the race. Does this apear in the game?
