I was wondering what the greatest racing cars of all time were to the GTP community. I can sit here for ever and list mine. Here are some:
Mazda 787B, Audi R18, Porsche 917, Jaguar XJR-9, Jaguar XJ-14, Mclaren MP-4/5, Lotus 99T, Lancia Stratos, Porsche 935, Mclaren F1 GTR Le Mans, Porsche 918, Porsche 956, Porsche 962, just to name a few. Also, why are they your favorites?

In recent years it would be the Audi R8, Peugeot 908, even further back I'd include the GT1 Porsches. And I can't go past this years Le Mans winner for going faster and doing more stops yet still winning...the Audi R18.

YES! and what were those old open top Porsche's of the 70's called?

What about the McLaren MP4/4, the one where Senna and Prost won all the races but one in the season.

How bout the Williams FW14 and FW15? The latter being the most technologically advanced F1 car of all time.

The Red Bull Racing RB6 and RB7 also comes to mind.

Porsche 917 (1100PS and record holder in LeMans average speed), Porsche 956, Ford GT40, Lancia S4, Audi Quattro, Ferrari 2004 (F1) to add a few.

The 99T only makes your list because of it's driver, as the car itself could hardly be called "great".

I dare say a lot of people's ideas of "greatest racing cars" are to do with the drivers more than the car itself - especially F1 cars.
Not to mention is a car like the 787B or the R18 really "greatest"? As has been well-covered before in this forum not so long ago, the 787B was a pretty lucky winning car and while its circumstances and the machinery are noteworthy, the car itself is hardly one of the "greatest".
The R18 hasn't really been very successful at all either and seems to be more famous for its accidents, though thats no fault of the car I guess.
Goes to show that it depends what everyone's idea of "greatest" really means. For me, I'd have to pick a variety of cars with different backgrounds. Maybe some are highly successful regardless of driver, and maybe some are great because of the drivers.

Lived for a single year* and dominated for a single year.

*Well close enough. It's replacement, the C291 was racing yet the C11 was still used in the 1991 season due to engine troubles with the new car.

The 787B, 99T, and Audi R18 are good in MY OPINION. It's fine what you guys think. Just don't need to tell me it's because o the driver.

2002 Arrows F1, Because it was the only F1 car I know of that disappeared halfway through a season and then pitched up with a different engine in the back and competed 4 years later (Super Aguri).

Contrary to popular belief the 787b was not a fast car in its day, ironically for all the hate for wankels the main advantage it had was reliability and that alone is why it won lemans. They qualified something like 15th
