I´m surprised no one has mentioned the McLaren F1 GTR:

Won Le Mans on it´s first attempt, against things like the Ferrari 333SP, Kremer K8, Courage C34, WR LM94 and Kudzu DG-3 - proper P1 cars. And the Macca wasn´t that heavily modified either. 100kg lighter than the normal F1, but less bhp - "only" 600bhp, due to restrictors.
7 cars was entered in the ´95 Le Mans 24hrs, and 5 finished. 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th overall.

👍
I can't believe I forgot the F1.

And the best thing about it? It still looks as modern as the day it was produced. It just hasn't dated.

The E30, first M3 and a brilliant touring car.

Wasn't that particular car road-registered too?

Also, my pick would have to be the Lotus 49.

I know at least one of the GTR´s participating was road registered. It was driven to and from the race. I don´t know if it was that particular car though (the winner). That car was however owned by McLaren Cars ltd. and was the first GTR prototype.

Greatest racing car of all time?

A car that only ever won a race at a national level?

Alot of people put the more known Japanese Le Mans car in as greatest racers of all time, when in reality all they ever did was win in Japan or national level as you said. I think it's the GT factor, not the person you quote per say, but other people in general. They play a gt game race a cool car and become a fan, when enthusiast like us watched them before we played them and saw what they really ever accomplished.

EDIT:
Though this car below won one race it probably set the ground for Japanese racing in various other classes of racing on an international level. As well as them returning to F1 in the early 2000s.
It's also important to note that it won in its second season, built their own engine and chassis and beat the likes of Lotus, BRM, and Ferrari which were the dominate cars of the time. All as a Japanese team in a euro prominent sport.

It's an easy mistake to make as it's one of the first images that appears on google images, you can tell because the blue winged centre caps are on the wrong side and the 1 is the wrong way round

Idk if it's been posted yet...

591 Horsepower-monster that ended the Lancia-stranglehold on the WRC. First broad-use of four-wheel drive

That's a Gr. 4 car, even before the Group B cars, and the "Lancia stranglehold on the WRC" happened AFTER the end of Group B.

That car effectively ended the dominance of this fantastic duo:
- Ford Escort RS2000
- Fiat 131 Abarth Rally

And cut short the career of 2 promising 2WD new cars:
- Opel Ascona
- Renault 5 Turbo

Ironically, that Audi is responsible for Lancia's return to the WRC, with the most amazing and fastest 2WD Rally Car EVER, the mighty Lancia 037.

Because of this 2WD, Audi needed to seriously up their own game with newer and better quattros. And that's when Lancia brought in the S4. Amazing times ... :)

The BGP 001

It was Honda-designed chassis with an Ilmor Mercedes engine. Ross Brawn even said that it was too heavy, the center of gravity was off, and some parts may not be good. Then they won 8 of 17 races, scoring the constructor's title and Jenson Button won the drivers championship. Then Mercedes bought out the team and well, we all know how thats going.

Yes, and I think they were good looking cars too.

Honda basically gave up the entire 2008 season to make that car, then didn't even stick around to use it.

Where's that Bill O'Reilly meme?

Why we all talk like Cherokee?

Anyway, that's just inspired me to throw an AMG 190E TC around the 'Ring tonight! Cheers

That car's so awesome. I'll be home around 8-8:30 GMT. Mind if I join? (not competitive, just cruising around :p) :)
