How dare you! (Matt Neal fan by the way) :p

I've been reading all your posts, some very interesting info and great that you communicate with us on here, thanks....... but all that is wasted now you've announced you're a Matt Neal fan :scared:

Great, and enjoyable game apart from that.

It's believed that GAS was always intended as a send-off for racing games on the last generation of consoles. Putting it on next-gen would have only dampened the intention.

Also, Microsoft and Sony are both losing money on the next-gen consoles. Developing a game for them isn't really an option for Codemasters, at least until the consoles start to turn a profit.
That doesn't seem to be the case

Very poor sales for GAS as it could only manage 7th in the UK chart. That clearly shows going last gen was the wrong choice.
What a silly thing to say. Bad sales because on last gen, as if no other factors have any impact.

Profit = minimum R&D, minimum cost, maximum sales.

If you only spend $1,000,000 on a game - designing, developing, programming etc., then every penny you make back above that is profit.

As a random example, 1,000,000/60=16,667 copies and they break even.

Honestly, their overall profits are probably noticeably higher since this is their third venture on the same platform... Meaning that they were already well-acquainted with the platforms.

And don't even get me started on how PC is a next gen platform at this point.

It's been said from the start of this thread: if you want great graphics, buy the PC version. Buy it. It's a great game and complaining about how it's not a next gen game is a lot like complaining about Colin McRae's Impreza because it's not the 2015 - for which fewer parts are available, harder to work on etc.

Err.... having done previous games on the platform also means they resources such as graphics / physics engines that can be directly used or tweaked. All the initial development cost is creating everything. Anyone here remember Kaz Yamauchi on the PS4? He said "it's a clean sheet" when it comes to working with - everything is new. Having to develop everything ground up will be the most time consuming and expensive process of all.

And PC does pretty much trump every single console going out there.

You're agreeing, right?

Why start with "err..." If you agree? :odd:

Anyways, yes. That's what I meant, though. However, I think most of the items here weren't directly ported from one hand to another, but at least changed a bit.

HAHA! Cheers.

The day Matt came to the studio for a tour and to give feedback on Grid Autosport :)

He's very tall.... I'm 6 foot 1 :D:D

Sadly, the games cost a LOT more than that to make. You can check company records...they're all public. Sad to say, but profits? what are they? :(

Hopefully Grid Autosport will be the start of a new era for Codemasters and we'll get back to where we belong... as the best at making racing games :D

Have none of the drivers said "no, it's all wrong, change the physics?"

They gave a lot of feedback and a lot of things changed. They all got the fact that we're not making a Sim. The most important thing was that they all said the cars had the right characteristics and they felt good to drive. All of them had a great time playing the game. We had a hard time getting Rob Austin off the D-Box....and many have said they want to come back and play some more..... that's all the clarification we need.

Oh oh oh oh! Now that the game is out, can you post the lap times and rules for the challenge? Let's compare GTP vs. BTCC...

Edit: @Silver-Sylph

Heehee... they were never a secret....they've been all over twitter. The drivers were having a bit of a battle.

Drivers and their times:

Rob Austin (BTCC) - 1:26.228
James Cole (BTCC) - 1:26.533
Alice Powell (GP3) - 1:26.566
Patric Niederhauser (GP3) - 1:26.990
Will Buller (Formula Renault 3.5) - 1:27.151
Henry Neal (Matt's son and Scottish legends driver) - 1:28.087
Mat Jackson (BTCC) - 1:28.215
Jack Clarke (BTCC) - 1:28.815
Matt Neal (BTCC) - 1:30.702

My fastest time is a 1:24.128 :p (but I've had all year to practice)

Rules are:
Ford Focus Touring Car (Liqui Moly).
No setups.
No Flashbacks.
Manual Gears.
ABS off
TCS off
Maximum of 5 laps in Time Attack (all drivers were only allowed 1 attempt... as in only 5 laps)

Track:
Brands Hatch GP

Setup:
D-Box (which is harder to be fair)

The interesting thing was.... everytime a new driver came in, they set the fastest lap. So you can actually see the order in which they visited....lol

I don't think it'll be hard to beat those times..... but to be fair to the drivers, they had never played the game.... this was done on their 1st attempt.... so that in itself is pretty impressive. Watching them go from the 1st lap where they were going off track, crashing, spinning out and getting gears wrong, to their 5th lap where they were setting their best times was amazing. Was incredible to witness how a professional learns and adapts in such a short space of time. Patric had never been to Brands Hatch before. He'd never played it on any games and didn't even know what the track looked like.... but he set his time after only 3 laps!!!! :O We've all played racing games and had a decent amount of practice in Autosport already.

You do realise that Codemasters wouldn't receive anywhere near $60 for each game. I've read somewhere before that they only see about $15-$20 for each game, and development and marketing etc costs then come out of that.

I'm using it as an example, but yes. Taxes etc.

This is where all the Rob Austin Owners Club should point and grin at Matt Neal, but he's half ninja so probably best not to

I'm getting annoyed with the event rival function. I always get Nathan McKane as my rival. But this is a problem because I'm not racing McKane. He's got an unassailable championship lead. I'm racing Evan Kennedy for third place, so when I call Sherman to tell me where my rival is, I want to know about the guy who is a second behind me, not the guy eight seconds down the road.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Sherman referring to your event rival and your team-mate as "your event rival" and "your team-mate" is lazy? I've only heard McKane and Wittenstein referred to be man's.

so i'm restarting again... and it seems that i've got different team offers at the beginning. I've got offers from Kickers this time using Golf R and Subaru BRZ. Is it because i've got first place at the prologue ?

They felt really good to drive, but some cars like the BRZ needs a bit of tuning for me, i almost always spinning out in that car everytime i try to power slide

I actually hate it that we need to do all disciplines to enter the Grand Slam. I can manage with drift event but somehow i really hate the endurance events. But if i don't do all the disciplines then i can't finish the game :banghead:

Have you tried setting the car up? All of the endurance cars are twitchy with basic settings.
it's not that the cars are twitchy... it's because the cars a bit more unpredictable than in other disciplines. I don't know, maybe because of the pressure of tyre wear ? the AI seems to be a lot faster too.

Tyre wear is scaled to race distance. If you use your tyres properly, you should have about 30-40% life left depending on which tyres take the most punishment at the circuit in question (and allowing for the odd mistake). It's not about door-to-door racing (even if the AI think so); success is about consistency and the careful application of throttle, brake, steering and gear changes. Run at about 90% of what you're capable of normally, and save the extra 10% for when you need to pass someone.

If you're still having trouble, do what I do for Tuner events - turn the difficulty and the race distance down.

the lowest race distance is "normal" right ?, what i can't get is how fast the AI were in the endurance events, their tires should have worn out to over the time right ? but i can't seem to catch them no matter how focused i am, and i conserve my tires quite well too.
