Why are these two cars even in the game. They have nothing to compete with and I really hope it isn't with each other. Sorry, but this sort of thing is pointless to me.

Of the categories of racing present in this game, Endurance was my most anticipated. However, after your quite impressive line-up of cars for the Touring category, I can't help but feel disappointed if those are all the cars you have in store for this discipline. Endurance racing is pretty big, has plenty of great cars and I think this list falls short of an appropriate representation of the category. Allow me to explain my opinion on this in more detail.

First, the Aston Zagato. A better choice could have been made here, namely the Vantage GT3. The Zagato in question isn't a GT3 car (there is a GT3 version but this isn't the one) and really shouldn't be racing together with the likes of the SLS and the R8, considering there is no multi-class racing in this game.

Second, as another user above me pointed out, the inclusions of the Mazda 787B and Lola B12, while nice, are a bit pointless without having anything to race against (remember, no multi-class in this game). The Mazda is a Group C car and the Lola is a modern LMP. Very different in performance. At the very least something like a Jaguar XJR-14 should have also been included, as well as something like the Oreca 03 or a Zytec.

Third, no LMP1? Would have been nice to see the Audi R18 E-tron and the Toyota TS030 racing against each other.

Those critiques being said, a plus point for the Super GT500 cars. Nice addition.

Licensing..... :(

@anim8r_uk Is the licensing for touringcar easier to arrange than licensing for GT/Proto's ? How does it work? You call Ford and say: hé we are creating this awesome game. Can we model a few cars and put them in?

Answer Ford: no problem. Pays x-amount and you can have focus and mondeo

Any insight on this?

I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea about how licensing works :( I imagine there's a hell of a lot more to it than that, but something along those lines maybe.

Remember.. other games will have exclusive licensing for some vehicles etc, so no amount of money will change that....sadly.

Licensing..... :(

I honestly think licensing is getting harder and harder these days, and that's affecting the content quantity and quality in games. It seems like all the big brands and the best cars are only for developers with large budgets. From my understanding, Codemasters is not a major developer but it's not what you would call small either (correct me if I'm wrong, please). I hope the DiRT game you're developing has more luck with licensing, rally cars seem to be easier to get(and that's good).

Regardless, I'm curious to see what the other categories will have to make the car list reach over 80. I'm willing to bet the Street class will be the most numerous.

I just watched the Endurance Trailer... Why are the cockpit blacked out? Specially at night time, that just defeats the whole purpose of having a cockpit view. They are also extremely blurred during day time and they don't seem to give any useful information. If I want to play with the HUD off then I'm stucked with a useless cockpit view not to mention that behind the blur you can see a poorly modeled cockpit.

Like I said before, who are they trying to sell this game to? what's the purpose of this game?

It's a fun, simcade racing game, not a full on simulator and not trying to be one. It's targeted to anyone that wants to have fun on the track, but isn't interested in full on sim physics, nor dealing with arcade driving style limitations either. Take it or leave it.

With games like this, this happens:

Grid Autosport's cockpit cams are slightly different beasts to their predecessors in the Codemasters stable, with a pronounced field of view effect blurring out the interior details at speed, placing attention firmly on the track ahead. It's not dissimilar to the approach taken by Slightly Mad with its Shift series, and there are comparisons to be made, too, with the hack-mods introduced soon after Grid 2's release by fans - and it's their work Codemasters has lent heavily on for the new viewpoints in Grid Autosport.

For the record, I wish the cockpit just stayed in focus myself, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. This won't be my "serious" racing game in the future, just a fun one.

If you're driving a car on a track (something I'm quite familiar with in real life) you're simply not looking at your gauges... Just oil temp., water temp., and air-fuel ratio...

Which some cars don't even have gauges for.
Honestly, you don't need gauges when driving on a track. You trust yourself, on that you've put enough fuel in, you get your sense of speed naturally, and you use your ears.

Why is that every racing game on the eve of being released, has a first hand look by someone that is slamming into cars, driving off the track and hitting walls with horrible commentary. Thank goodness for the official trailers! I'll form my opinion in the morning when I go get my copy next month.

I don't know about you, but I quite like my car. When I go to a track day, I watch my gauges very carefully. I don't want to hit the redline all the time, because it's not great for the engine on my old car. I want as much warning as possible if it's starting to overheat. Or if I've lost oil pressure. Helps a bit looking at entry speeds for corners as well when you're trying to learn your way around a track.

In a game, you don't need this stuff. In real life, yeah, you do. Unless it's a race car and you're not the one paying when it goes pop. It's not like you're staring at the gauges, because staring at any one thing when you're driving hard is moronic. But they're one of the things you should be regularly flicking your eyes past, like your mirrors.

Precisely. You probably look at it once a lap, maybe right before pit entry or on the longest straight. You're right in that you rarely stare at them. On top of that, you mention that it doesn't matter if someone is racing someone else's car, or in a racing game.

The fact that my car only has RPM, fuel, speed and oil temp., only adds to the fact that one rarely looks at the gauges.

That's not what I said. Any time I have a spare moment, I'll either flick my eyes past the mirrors, or past the gauges. At least half a dozen times a lap. My car can and has gone from normal temperature to very nearly overheating in less than a lap. It's an old Miata and it needs a radiator upgrade, so I do what I have to.

Many road cars without coolant system upgrades can do the same on a track when they're driven hard.

You're right in that you rarely stare at them. On top of that, you mention that it doesn't matter if someone is racing someone else's car, or in a racing game.

Correct. It's not true to extrapolate that not looking at your gauges is a realistic way to drive in real life though.

The fact that my car only has RPM, fuel, speed and oil temp., only adds to the fact that one rarely looks at the gauges.

Just because your car doesn't have those gauges, doesn't mean the driver shouldn't be looking at them if they are available. If the information isn't there, there's not much you can do. If it is there, you ignore it at your peril.

Unless you think it's good design to omit coolant temp., oil pressure and speed gauges. Then I've got nothing for you. Me, I prefer to be as informed as possible, or at least have the information available when I want it. I see no benefit to not having those gauges at all, apart from saving maybe a kilo of weight. Take a big dump before you race if weight is that much of a problem.

Money. Those gauges cost money. I might get those gauges, but it's certainly a "might". Maybe.

I've got my eye on something newer than my '05. I'm kinda saving for that and only tracking my '05 for fun.

As it relates to the game, though, you basically have no reason to look at gauges anyways... In games, especially.

Autosport is getting more and more interesting. I really hope there will be a demo available though, because I didn't like the driving in Grid 2, was constantly bangin' from wall to wall. Grid and DTM Race Driver on pc were good games.
Btw I was wondering, when there is a Mazda 787b, what cars will it be competing against?

One of the video's mentioned that you really need to look after your tyres in endurance races which sounds fun but are Codies still not putting pits in?
They've already confirmed that it won't have pits.
Kind of begs the question, what happens if you don't take care of the tires and you can't pit?
