I really liked this excerpt from the Pixel Dynamo review, and reflects my own sentiments exactly:

Having a evenly matched three-lap showdown with the leader is as thrilling an experience as racing through the pack from last place – which is rarely the case. That enjoyment comes from having to use your racing brain to figure out a way past an extremely efficient AI. The pace of your virtual rivals is not down to their cars simply being faster than yours. The drivers know their brake points, know when to push the car to its limits, and will defend their position rigorously. If I came off second best, rather than blaming inequalities within the game, I found myself thinking: “Could I have gone quicker around the first turn?” “Should I have been more aggressive?”.

“How can I do better?”.

Anyone knows if one can have différent liveries in a club or can colors be changed from the base design?

Just registered my club :)

Ok this is one review i pay attention to, seeing this guy is a harsh critic (he destroyed GT6 and i fully agree with what he wrote back then), he knows his racing games and as such always gives a more detailed explanation about the physics. He's actually quite fond of GAS's physics, and says although it's definitely simcade, the weight and behavior of the cars feels good.

It's a Swedish review, but here's the translated version:

This sealed the deal for me

Anyone know how many GB the PC version is? I don't want to wait forever for it to download.
I think it was something like 7.6 GB but it downloaded very fast.

Edit: The pre-load was 7.6 GB, but when starting up Steam today there was a download to complete the game - total altogether 7.7 GB.

Gamespot review seems a bit harsh, only 6/10 due to the AI supposedly not being adapted to the different categories, handling model being too forgiving and the need to do all disciplines to progress to the championship:

The other reviews are convincing me to pick it up though; thumbs up for the democratic pricing for a new copy 👍
I have had my hands on this game for my free time. Gamespot also seems to hate racing games.

TBH in response to GS, I wouldn't call the handling model forgiving. They must have had all driving aids on.... I mean the first open wheel car requires a touch. I find it wonderful and dare I say some fresh air, the game isn't a breeze. There's a lot of single player content. And the seasons are not short races.

... well, I have my race distance on x2. Still isn't short because so far i've seen. Each track is a two race sprint. But man I am enjoying the challenge of competition this game has. No rubber banding AI, but a solid, great AI. Sometimes get a little rowdy. But I stayed side by side with one of Kicker Focus' through half a lap on algarve.

Got my copy... Just in time for PlayStation update 4.09 to give us closed captions. :irked: who in their right mind made that a required update!?

That seems like a strange criticism to make. Of course you would have to complete every discipline to finish the game.
Well don't really know what kind of championship is on offer after meeting the minimum requirements in each discipline, but i guess they find it contradictory or something seeing at first you are free to skip the categories that you don't like.

I don't really mind neither though, luckily there's no hit cones / slalom through them events like FM and GT have ;)

According to IGN, they are multi-discipline championships, and you need the skills in each discipline to succeed. Kind of like the final tier of DIRT 3.

Hopefully they have done what they did in DIRT 3, and made the "World Tours", which allowed you to run full events in every category. The ability to do full rallies in Finland, Norway, Kenya and Michigan almost made up for the shortcomings elsewhere in the game.

A World Tour for the touring cars, racing at every real-life circuit (and maybe even the odd street circuit) would be fantastic.

but i guess they find it contradictory or something seeing at first you are free to skip the categories that you don't like.
Reading the review, I think the author felt frustrated by the other categories - that he settles into his favourite(s), but then has to go through the motions in the other disciplines to unlock nee content.

I don't really mind neither though, luckily there's no hit cones / slalom through them events like FM and GT have ;)
Ugh. I remember GT4's Coffee Breaks. They were intended to be fun, but they were also mandatory.

Cant wait to get on this weeks touring challenge, super tourers at mount, nice 👍

Not so sure about the club and multiplayer leaderboards tho, is it only based on XP?

@anim8r_uk since you made the game, would you recommend it for PS3 or PC? I'm having a hard time deciding.

The game is exactly the same in terms of content. There will be obvious graphical differences due to the hardware. It's hard to recommend a platform. There are a lot of folk on here who are getting the PS3 version (same as me..... well, I actually get all 3, but I'll be playing on PS3) so we'll all be able to race together.... but the game was developed on PC with PC gamers in mind (stunning graphics etc)

It really is your choice my friend....

Maybe, maybe not. There's a mod already for the PC, Un-blur Cockpit Cam. Haven't tried myself yet, just got home.

You know there's an option in the Graphics options to 'un-blur' the cockpits yeah? No need for a mod.... lol

EDIT: Opps.... sorry for double post *hangs head in shame.....*

But can you turn off the cockpit blur on the PS3 version or can you only do it on the PC version?

As I stated I didn't try myself, it was just something I saw in a GAS Mod forum and was surprised someone already had a mod.
As for a graphics option "in game", where would that be? Note, all previews I read mentioned a blurred cockpit, never a mention of the ability to "un-blur".

OK... just found out... it's not an actual 'Turn off Blur' Option.... my mistake. But you can still do it..... but it will also turn off some other things aswell. It's under Options> Graphical Settings> Shader Quality> Ultra Low

That will turn off the blur, but be warned... the game was intended for the Blur to be on by design :)

Wonder what they're doing in the mod then.

No.. it's just a PC 'option'

@anim8r_uk, why is the AI trying to kill me every two seconds? Don't you think they're a bit overly aggressive?

What discipline are you racing in?

Personally, sometimes I find them a bit aggressive.... but I also think that that's what helps add to the fun nature of it. Look at the old school BTCC for example.... you had to have pointy elbows back then :)

I'd rather them be aggressive (and sometimes make mistakes because if it) than have yet another racing game where the AI are as dull as dishwater and don't defend lines and challenge for the overtake (albeit with a bit/lot of rubbing).... just my opinion.
