Ah yes the Top RPM HKS GT-R. When I first saw this video a while ago I almost cried due to his driving skills and for the poor car. Check out some of the other videos on Top RPM. Seriously there is a ****load of awesome, powerful, EXPENSIVE cars on that website.

I've seen that video before and I don't think the problem is with the driver. I think that with the amount of HP that car's putting down, it's probably screwed up his transmission or his clutch, or both....especially doing burnouts like that all the time.

Well on my car shifting from 5th down to 4th it makes almost the same noise. To fix it I'll have to get a Nismo clutch line I tihnk. Oops I just gave info away on the car I'm hiding from GTP!

GTP driving l337ness on an all-time high again.

Did some of you guys even consider that maybe his tranny, which may very well be a stock one or just a plain weak one, isn't up to the task and the driver knows it?

Perhaps there's already replacement ready and he just decided to kill the old one?

Why are people on here so quick to assume other drivers to be idiots, just like in the WRX crash? I don't think that anybody driving such a car wouldn't know how to shift and it's obvious that he hears what's going on but doesn't care about it. And this just being due to ignorance is highly unlikely in my opinion. I'd rather assume, as written above, that he decided to shred it and what you hear sounds like some serious abuse to the syncromeshes has been done beforehand which probably results from increased engine performance and hard launches.

Sheeeesh. Give other people some more credit.

Just by how slow he shifts and watching him shift it looks like he wasn't very experienced.

is it just me or was he grinding gears?

He's shifting slowly because he's having trouble getting it into gear. That would also go with my theory that his transmission and/or clutch is worn out.

I gotta second what Satorian wrote.
Especially when looking at the license plates of this guy. The license plates say that the owner's from the United Arab Emirates. So what did the omniscient people of GTP learn after seeing the 'ERHABE' video with the Arabian people crashing their cars for fun? Yes, right, some of Saudi Arabia's people are filthy rich. I guess, this guy wanted to buy a new clutch or something and what better way is there to get prepared for it than burning down the old one? You guys should give it a thought.

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that an AWD skyline? How did he do a burnout on a AWD car? Shouldn't all four wheels have burned out? I'd like to know. :)

lol.. OK.. whatever man...
i've on had 15 min lesson on driving manual and an additional 15 for practice (with a 1 month gap). i dunno much bout grinding gears..... but it did sound like he did...

all the upshifts he did except the last one, made the grinding gear noise.. maybe u should see the vid again.

I don't think he could launch that hard and chirp the tires going into 3rd gear with a bad tranny and clutch.

He actually chriped into 4th aswell if you listen closely.

The grinding comes from the synchros. From getting more power than they were designed to handle and hard application they have been shaved or sheared, which makes them slip because they can't grip in and accelerate the gears quickly enough, which is that noise you hear.
Perhaps the synchros aren't really worn out, but it might be that by now the engine power is way out of the synchro's league so to speak, but still transfers enough power to make the tyres chirp on going into third.

If he had a worn clutch he would get less power down and it would sound different.

And about the AWD: I think he converted it to RWD. On the R32 and R34 you supposedly just need to pull a fuse to do that. Some highpowered GT-R are converted this way. I'd assume it has got something to do with the center differential not putting up with the power.

Only R32 you can pull a fuse, R33-R34 are more advanced and if you pull the fuse you can damage the transfercase (torque spilt clutches). You will need a aftermarket Torque spliter to convert R33-34 to RWD. You can also remove the front drive shafts but this is not recomended. That car in the vid done a RWD burnout but then switched to 4WD for the launch.

As for synchros, the synchros slow the input shaft to the speed of the output shaft in any given gear. If you try forcing them or switch to a low speed gear, the gear will crunch. All the synchros do is slow down the shafts with cones that create friction on the gear intill the input and ouput shafts are about equal speed then the gear will slide into place. High powered cars that you do alot of quick shifts will tend to wear out synchros quickly.

Once its in gear, its in. Synchros arent affected while the gear is engaged.

If the gear crunched you are forcing it in gear before the shafts equal speed or your synchro are worn and dont slow the input shaft or the gearbox doesnt synchros.

As for cruntching on idle, maybe it has clutch problems. The clutch may not be completely dissengauging. Slight Input shaft movement.

Well it is a HKS 6 speed and it does chirp into 4th with out breaking , So I would say it is strong. A stock R32 GTR 5 speed would have broken a long time ago.

May god that wing make that car look horrible...

When ricers take nice cars..

When I heard the grinding. I X'ed the video out.
