I'd suggest the comfort soft tires. They seem to be the best match for the performance mark the car is at. I for one am very impressed at how the car is balanced. Sure it may not be the most powerful car on the market, but as the saying goes, it's way more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

On the other hand, when I try to tune one up with more power and custom suspension, I find it very tricky to tune.

The good:
Areo parts can be installed.
(while the FT86 concept cannot)

The bad:
It is much heavier that the FT86 concept (1250kg compare to 1000kg), after weight reduction stage 3, it can only down to 109x kg.

I think the FT86 concept'10 is better and more prefer.

Fully tuned this car is a beast. I made in a couple of laps 7:07.300 in Nurburgring and i forgot to set up the last gear for a little bit more final speed (top speed was 251 km/h but the car could do at least 10 to 20km/h more than that with almost 400HP). Racing soft tyres of course.
And in a couple of laps with the GT-R Schulze i made 7:13.400 with Racing hard tyres without any changes on gearbox or anything.
So in conclusion this car fully tuned is a beast but in standard conditions is still good but similar to the previous Concept.

Well said. 👍

I like the car a lot, fairly quick, well spaced gears (6th is a bit longer but most new turbocharged (I know this isn't, just comparing!) mainstream cars top out in 4th with 2 o/d ratios!!

Handling is very good too although sports hard tires are way too grippy, when autocar tested it they said it had the same energy saving tyres as a Prius so that would mean comfort medium would be the most accurate in game although mine is on comfort soft which provides a good compromise between grip and fun! 👍

I have 3 of them, the free one I got with the update that will forever be stock, one fully tuned and due to be setup for grip and one fully tuned complete with massive rear wing that's setup for drift. It's great at drift and grip with standard settings, once tuned it's amazing at both.

Some utter trash in this thread.

Take the car for what it is. Think rwd Honda integra so stop comparing it to 980hp race cars.

Just watch great things will come from this car, I suspect we shall see a number of semi tuned cars eg TRD and semi official dealer upgrades.

I for one am excited about this car.

Personally in the real world I drive a Legacy GT Spec.B as my everyday ride.
I love it and would never consider going back to RWD.
But if the BRZ is this much fun I may just have to reconsider.

Nurburgring, Toyota GT-86 stock with tyres comfort soft, no ABS-> Amazing. 👍 :)

Much like the OP, I too have been following this car since its inception and i'm dying to test drive it when it comes out. Yesterday, as soon as I left the office, I went home to try it out on GT5.

I only drove the car stock, with an oil change and then with confort softs. The car felt a little bit slow on a straight line but really fast on the corners. The handling is perfectly neutral, which allows for good entry speeds.

I loved the car (in game). The only criticism that I may have is that it appears to be too efficient (even on Confort Softs), being a bit hard to provoke it and to get that back end out.

Other than that, its a very good (slower) car and it kills the opposition in its PP range (comparing stock cars).

Only problem is top speed. On the Nord I can get to within 2 secs if a McLaren MP12C but then it pulls out 4+ secs on me on the long straight.

Before I even drove this car I changed to comfort soft tyres, as I thought sports hard would be wrong. I thought it was better than expected, I loved the handling found it great fun, just the right amount of understeer that would force me to find the right way to apply the throttle or balance it on some corners and just enough power to overcome the traction on the rear. I haven't played GT5 in a while and I was using DS3 so I'll have to drive some other cars to do a proper comparison.

Yeah the car is great but I also think the Sport hard tyres are a bit too good for the car. It's too easy to drive.

Did the update change anything with the shadows? I saw the shadow of the 86GT and it looked pretty good. Try racing on La Sarthe at around 20:00 and you can see the shadow on the wall to your left on the large straight. It looked pretty good.

The car handles fine, too fine really. Switched to comfort soft like all the other cars in this car's performance level in game and it seems to have no vice as far as the handling goes. Maybe a bit too much grip for the power...

Considering the real car has ~12.5:1 compression, you slap any forced induction on there and it'll blow up. That's probably why they're missing.

Also if you've seen the pics of the car's engine bay, and Turbo might be a tough fit....especially if the motor mounts lower as they said they did vs other Subaru..

It's not quite what I was expecting, but the light weight of the GT86 and handling still makes the car a dream to drive. It's a lot of fun taking this thing around the Nurburgring.

Such a weird decision by Toyota and Subaru on this car ... why only 200 HP? That is not going to cut it. I guess they were aiming at the Civic Si?

Sure it handles nice, almost too nice really. I don't think it will outhandle an S2000 in real life and I look forward to putting that to the test against the first one I find in the canyons, LOL. In the game, stock for stock it does. Even putting sports hard tires on the S2K the 86 still outhandles it ... similar weight of both cars. I'm calling BS.

IRL I would be interested in purchasing this car at about 270-300 HP, not buying one at 200ish though.

FYI if you shift a bone stock 86 to 6th on the long Nordschleife straight this car will lose like 10 mph ... keep it in 5th to maintain top speed.

200hp is sufficient IMO for a ~2600lb car. Considering most compact sedans these days make ~170hp and weigh 3,000+.

The S2000 at best is 3 years old or older, so the suspension design in the 86 could really be that much better considering how much time Toyota and Subaru put into the design of this thing. Their handling benchmark was the Porsche Cayman after all.

Absolutely love the handling of the car out of the box. I was surprised at how it cornered. I was expecting understeer like most of the stock rwd cars in GT5. I wonder if the production car will handle like this?

I disagree that the HP is sufficient. It is billed as a RWD sports car. What other RWD sports car built in the last 10 years will this thing be faster than? Miatas and I can't think of any others.

Possibly on the handling, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think it's going to outhandle an S2000 IRL. It's odd they gave it sports hard tires in the game when the general HP/Tire rule in GT5 would suggest comfort softs ... as if they are trying to make it seem better than it is.

So is the Miata, and I don't see people complaining about that one. I actually like the fact that Mazda is planning on going with a smaller motor in the next version.

Point is, once you get them up to speed, they hold their own. 👍

No Miata guys ever complain the car is underpowered? I have an S2000 and we are always complaining that it's underpowered. Yeah it's a lot of fun but it could use another 50 HP.

Not sure if mentioned already but TRD will be offering a supercharger kit.

I think with more power, you lose the spirit that the manufacture was attempting to achieve. But to each their own, I think it's fine.

Yeah they "offered" a supercharger kit for the tC, and look how that went.

They probably gave it sports hard tyres because many people have the misconception that, a cars handling is measured by how fast it goes around a corner. So these people will think wow it has great handling, they achieved their goal with this car.

As for power, I really don't get why people are still complaining about the power. Maybe your too young to know that this is the first attempt at a cheap lightweight, practical FR since the AE86 and that was basically a RWD hot hatch, so if it's aimed at anything it's hot hatches. It's a RWD alternative to a Civic type r or Golf GTi. That's how I've always seen it anyway.

I like it, I haven't driven it that much, but I'll drive it some more today and make my final descision

My thoughts are this car will be marketed to the younger generation (like the scions), and in that regard less power is good. It handles perfect in game on CS tires, if they wanted to add more power they would have. The rear end is very softly sprung to dim down any oversteer, which keeps it safe. This is going to be a fairly cheap, practical, everyday car that gets good mpg, and you can still have alot of fun in the twisties from time to time without your gf pissing herself in the process.

Its not meant to be a 0-60 car or a highway beast, it will be built because it is fun to drive. Toyota has nothing in the "fun" category at the moment.

I jumped straight into mine with nothing but a spoiler added on, and I have to say, though it was pretty slow, it handled nicely! Very impressed. I was so impressed I bought 2 more.
