We did actually used to race a bit...only a couple of times lol. I'm not very good at TT's tbh.

After a little think, I guess you're right about those who are entering the time trial, but know they are not allowed to take part. They have signed upto the rules, to enter the competition...

I can understand why they're doing it, but at the same time it is frustrating for those of us who will inevitably be fighting for 20th place...but only needing 22nd...or 25th and as you said in Ireland - 30th!! Could help with hair loss if they just kept out of it...but hey...onwards and downwards!

;)

For sure. No point in complaining, it's time to drive. I've got a busy few weeks ahead with college so hopefully I can find the time to keep up with this. After last year I know that if you miss a day or two it can be very tough to get back up to speed.

Don't be surprised to see people do this for weeks and then magically appear at the top of the leader board once they are fast enough. It happened with the world record at in last years Academy TT.

Thanks 👍

Yep I know that as I'm French, and this happened to us everytime with some Aliens :sly:

Interesting...it seems I've done my last two stints with Traction Control on setting 5.

I had initially gone into the challenge, set it to off, but then when returning it had gone back to 5 and it hasn't seemed to have hampered me that much?? Usually running TC is very crippling but I've not noticed any trouble with losing speed out of corners!??

Anyone?

Yep. Same thing happened to me earlier. You have to turn if to 0 each time you enter. The weird thing was that I didn't notice much of a difference when it was on, but when I turned it off again I found the car was a little faster.

I just had exactly the same thing happen to me. I only noticed it when I spun and went to set back off because it was limiting my power. It's pretty annoying to be honest, why can't it just remember.

Thanks 👍

Uh, good luck then, mate - just tried and failed horribly, just really hate the Fairlady. Always did. Make the Ile de France proud. :D

What are people using their wheels on for the Academy?

Simulation or Professional as I have not been using my wheel long im unsure which is better I guessed simulation and have been using that constantly (2:18's with It). If it's professional I'll give that a go.

Simulation for me throughout GT Academy 2010 and GT5 generally 👍

Power steering off, low FFB.

I understand why power steering should be off, but why low force feedback? I've always used mine on maximum, as I'm a drifter at heart, and it helps with transissions, but then at the UK finals last year, the feedback on the DFGT's was set really low and I struggled to 'feel' the car at all. :)
Cheers

Some interesting info for you all from the Registration page on gran-turismo.com:

6.2.Each Territory Final will be a two day event that will take place in one of the countries in the applicable Territory at a location, date and time to be notified by the Promoter to the Qualifying entrants by email. It is intended that all Territory finals will take place during the period 29 April to 15 May 2011 but the Promoter reserves the right to change these dates.

6.5.During each Territory Final, Qualifying Entrants may be required to compete in various virtual and “real world” challenges and undergo assessments which may include mental challenges and medical and physical assessments. Qualifying Entrants may be eliminated at any stage in a Territory Final on the basis of their performance in, or the results of, any of these challenges or assessments.

6.6.Entrants acknowledge that each Territory Final may include additional wildcard entrants who will have qualified through a separate entry mechanism and that they may be required to compete against such wildcard entrants as if they were Qualifying Entrants as defined in these Terms.

Regarding the Wild Card entries, this will not be the first time this happens. The 2008 GT Academy UK final had wild card entries, one of which made it to Silverstone! I wouldn't get too worried, I think their standing in the national final will reflect that they did not qualify in as competitive a format as the time triallers. At least that would make sense to me.

there is no sign of any of the 'skills' team yet.
Most of us couldnt remember the email and passwords we used on our skills account, so we're all using different accounts.

Cheers Maz, thats the setup I am using currently, was unsure whether professional was better in some case, but as your using that and you did 2010 with it seems good then :).

On a GT Academy TT note: Im in the 18's just getting my 17 lap together (Which i can do :D!) Its amazing the time you can find continuously

Dessy, I used your ghost today as a guideline, man you're quick! Best of luck! On the point of people competing who are ineligable, I'd like to share my view. I dont have a full drivers license, infact my provisional test is next week! I'm competing because the level of skill on show by the top guys is truly incredible. By signing up I get to see it for myself, aswell as compare my own skills, and any improvement I can make over the coming weeks.

So if a region includes wildcard entries will the number of finalists get boosted up by the number of wildcards or will it still remain at 20 (at the expense of those who qualified at the bottom end of the top 20*)?

I would say IF they decide to go with wildcards, it will add to the 20, not replace.

Last year's regulations mentioned wild cards as well and there were none. I think it's just something to have in the rules for whatever reason.

Here is the link to view the overall leaderboard..:

You can choose you location/country just above the board...

spy.

Thanks for that. It will come in handy. 👍

.......

Did a 4 hour session last night, my first real attempt at driving GT5 and not only did it show my lack of practice within the game, it also half killed me. I couldn't sleep well, stiff neck, and a pounding headache for my troubles. :yuck:

Managed 35th on the UK/Ireland leaderboard (now back down in the 40's) with a 2:20'4, but a 2:18 is more than possible if I'm prepared to slug it out.

Great to see the many GTP_Tags showing up on the leaderboards. Keep up the good work. 👍

Nice combo. 👍

My PS3 has just died, nightmare! I suppose being ineligible this year has had some sort of blessing after all, otherwise I'd probably be in the foetal position rocking back and forth right now... Still a total pain in the hole though, as I bought it especially for the competition (before I was told I couldn't compete.)

Isn't this going to cause confusion though. Fair enough, everyone should be allowed set a time, but if they aren't eligible due to age, no license, racing license etc, it is going to mean that people outside the top 20 will be going to the nationals. This happened with Ireland last year. One guy I talked to qualified 30th, but due to all the ineligible participants he got a call to come along to the finals and compete.

As Ian has already said, this was very much the case last year as well. I even heard stories about German drivers who ranked around #70 in their trials making it to the nationals due to drop outs and ineligibility.

In the UK we've already got GTDrivers_Moose, GTP_EBK2, deathwalker_red, tony1311111111 (as he's from Greece) and probably I_WANT_TO_TRY in the top 20 currently who won't be going to the national finals. That means the current 25th place is in, and then if you look GTP_Ingram and GTP_PrudentBear are in the top 30 so that pushes the envelope further. It's 100% worth maintaining the effort and drive if you're just outside the top 30 even.

For you to say you're not good at TTs is such a steaming pile or rubbish  You were mega fast in the last Academy, 15th in the UK, and now your 2'18.5 is another spectacular effort that will take some serious beating.

In all truth, had I finished 21st last year and still made the finals, it wouldn't have tasted as sweet as the 19th place I eventually earned. Just to be in that 20, ineligibility or not, has its own meaning and sense of achievement.

Thanks 👍

You've also got GTPL_XMato (from Poland) running on your time trial as GTPL_MatoFR, and he will almost certainly occupy a top 20 place for most of the competition.

Most of us couldnt remember the email and passwords we used on our skills account, so we're all using different accounts.

I see you're using Dantastic and have put in a quite incredible lap  What ID are the rest of your team using? I can see Spud and Dynamic in the listings already. Are Davey and Canary running this year?

In fact last year, on the last day when I set my lap that got me through, I tried lower FFB than the 3 I was using and suddenly went faster. It's worked better for me throughout GT5.

Congratulations on your superb lap by the way 👍 I ran a good number of hours very late last night and at the time was 11th with a 2'19.012. I can certainly see a mid 2'18, but 2'17s I can't see currently.

Thanks for that. It will come in handy. 👍

 Jerry. I think a couple more sessions like that mate and you'll rediscover everything that may be missing currently...having said that, if you can see 2'18s after your first proper GT5 session, I'd say there was nothing missing at all.

I echo your statement about the many GTP drivers on the board, excellent showing so far with some notable absentees still

Alex, that's bloody awful mate :( I'm really sorry to hear about that and I hope you can find some sort of solution as it is still good to see you and John on the leaderboard, regardless of anything else.

You know you won't be able to stay away, or tolerate me and Ian being above you on the leaderboard

Davey is using his vibralux account and Canary hasnt got a licence, so he's not going to run it.

Also do you have to have a valid passport to be allowed to enter?

Ah Davey is Vibralux, that explains a bit

Yes, sort your passport out asap.

Good luck to all! Will be interesting to see the battling on the leaderboards :) The track looks nice too, a little bit suprized there's only one combo though..

I finished top 30 in 2008 academy and 32nd last year, really want to get to national finals this time round!! I'm currently 42nd but haven't spent much time on it yet

Good luck everybody :)

Why do I get the feeling they are going to add another car and track, on March 18th? ..On the menu screen it says Round 1, and since there aren't any stages in this like the American Academy, that would suggest a second round may be added and the two times will be combined. Someone should give the regs another read and see if anything may suggest this.
