Wheres your wheel gone dude? you had some great times last year

I've no room for my G25 now and it's in bit's too:sick: I might try and work something out later in the week but it's looking doubtful.
I think i saw you in the top ten? Nice work:tup:

I doubt i will be there long.
I reckon the top 25 times for UK/IRE will all be within 0.4 seconds of the fastest time. And its gonna take some serious effort to get that close to the top time even now. Think i will have too much college work to stay competitive. :(

That's a pity, I'll try practicing with the pad for a while, but I can't see my self doing better than 1:18s. I think the pads have a bit more of a chance this time, but I'm a bit rusty.

I personally didn't expect the Pads to be competitive reason for the wheel but glad they are as It's helping a lot, rather than having to learn how to use the wheel and play with the wheel at the same time (Gets hot so quickly). Personally can see myself getting a 17.2/17.3 now on the pad (DS3), which should be in the next few days just have to fit the puzzle together :).

I mean I got a 17.9 tonight on the pad, and I lost well over half a second on 1 corner from taking it wrong, which I found quite amazing really lol. But well on my way thats for sure! :).

Just checked the overall leaderboard and found it interesting that the fastest German, and 3rd fastest overall, used TCS 5:idea:

I had my first run yesterday ... and found myself almost 4 seconds off the pace. Now, I'm certainly not one of the fastest out there, and I would have thought that it was possible to maybe shave 2 seconds off, but 4???

I seriously have to check out some fast ghost laps, because there's something I'm doing wrong there.

I'm also kind of disappointed that the "prize car" GT-R you get for participation is only a paint-job. So, now I have 3 identical GT-R V-spec's (1 from OCD, 1 GT Academy, 1 GT Academy Special). But hey, can you change the number one this car? I'll proudly "wear" my position then, wherever I come in at the end, provided it's in the top 999. :sly:

You can't change the number, and even if you could, they only go to 99, not 999.

I guess everyone will be whacking on the active steering now?

Is there a way for people who are not included in the known regions, to enter the GT acadamy, i don't mind if i can not enter, but it would be nice to race your friends, would it be possible to open a dutch account, or do they check the IP-adresses...???

A dissappointed fan...

It should automatically save your best time. I forgot to save my best time so there goes my reference point.

Moved to the General Discussion thread.

Just tryed Active steering strong and controller sensitivity 7 (reluctant to use assists but think its necessary to be competitive enough on pad) and just wasted a 2'18.0xx lap after losing 0.25 in T1... after under 1 hour of trying this setup, think its a fair bit quicker.

I found that when I put Active steering on the car it slowed the car down, but I didn't try it with the controller steering sens at 7, might have to give it a go. For my lap I think I used controller steering sens at -2 and TCS at 5. :)

I have no chance in this TT competition, but still it helped me alot so far to improve my poor driving skills. I hope to break the 2:20 barrier tonight :)

Lost 0.3-0.4 by T2 and still improved by 0.011 and not great final sector either... with that setup.

Lars just done 2'17.130 with no assists, looking at his lap i think there will be the odd sub 2'17.

So are we saying that its faster, with a pad?

In all honesty I think they are equal and that the only reason pads are up there is because those that are good with the pads bought wheels/used wheels rather late and haven't got used to them and so are turning back to the pads. Its still wheels that dominate the top 10 overall EU, it's just pads are more on equal terms.

Last years academy the Japanese could play but couldn't compete (I think or something like that I think) and they had some insane pad players who were equaling wheel times (Or I could have read It wrong and this could be all Irrelevant :P).

Or I could be wrong but I would guess thats my general assessment of Pad vs Wheel at the moment in GT Academy.

Regarding the Japanese pad players from last years Academy. Their tt ran a few weeks longer after our tt was taken down. ;)

I still think it seems a bit odd how those pad times are so damn fast.. And also I find it strange.. (or is it funny) that SRF and driving line are banned, but ASM, Active steering and TC is allowed..

I honestly think pad is as normal a disadvantage, you cant be as precise on the throttle/steering and cant turn as much angle of course, i think just the good pad times are people doing best they can (at this stage) early as possible (me included i think a 17.7-8 would be my limit on pad). To me ive always been better on a wheel and personally i cant see this being any different although maybe not by a big difference so im still searching for another wheel at the right price lol.

Think this explains it best, although my limit on a pad is currently 17.1 I can see. But I've not tried it with any aids on so will see later on when I give it a bash after catching up on my dissertation :P.

Hi all!

Welcome to my 1st post!

Really excited by this challenge.

I'm completley new to driving games, so am trying to learn fast. Got GT5 from the missus for Christmas, and have been trying hard to get upto speed as quickly as possible, which is pretty hard with all the other stuff one must do these days.

Fired this event up on Sunday, and put in about 8 laps, and got a 2:31 - so still a lot more to learn, obviously.

Got a whole day off on Wednesday, so am looking forward to sitting down for a good few hours of practice.

Aim for the end of the day will be <2:25 - Pretty lame I know, but everybody's gotta start somewhere! :)

Steve

Almost had a miracle lap, up 0.1 on fastest time through sector 1, down 0.3 on sector 2, then clipped the barrier going through the sector 3 s bend.
I got too excited

I know that feeling. Looking in your mirror and seeing your ghost a few tenths behind.. then screwing it up

I'm the same.. Going into last sector ahed I'm secretely saying to myself " YES YES COME ON KEEP IT TOGETHER" lol It's so annoying when you lose it :( Yet to Reage quit though haha

Is this not available to UK residents? I've had the email, signed in to my PSN account and it says I can't enter until I register.

EDIT: It works now. Bizarre.

What is up with the leaderboards on granturismo.com, they need to hire new web designers
