GT Academy 2012 announced

Wait, what?

Broken version?

I used to use a great qualifying system, worked perfectly all the time. After the last update it didn't work anymore, if you leave to the lounge to make some changes you lose your time.

Most people were/are quite disappointed with the overly rapid tire wear on the racing compounds, there was hope it would be changed. Some people claimed it ruined organized leagues.

Players randomly lose all tire noise after a track reset. The only way to fix it is to leave the room and re-enter. After the second to last update I have experienced a massive increase in frequency, I lose tire noise about one in every three times the track is changed.

More than 12 people in a room with audio chat functioning = Fail.

That's off the top of my head, I think there are a few more. I ran 3.5 seasons of an online racing league with good success, then the last two updates came and everything went to hell.

However annoying, I've pretty much got used to it. My current series actually has everyone line up on the grid and that works 95% of the time. I make sure that everyone goes out on track in the correct order, and as long as nobody passes each other, the lineup stays correct. Or there's the single file line method that still works as well. All of this is not applicable though to those who want to run a faster series. (doesn't bother me)

Only if you run anything higher than Racing Hards.

I have had this happen quite a bit in the past, but lately hasn't been an issue.

I was in a full room Saturday night with people using mics and other than one person's crappy connection making him lag in one race, we never had an issue. Can't fully comment on this though since I rarely run rooms with mics.

Depending on how you run your series, it could be. The only issue I have run into is with people not seeing each other on track, or people not being able to connect to rooms. Which I find is probably more an issue with their connection than anything else.

Good now give me the damn DLC you've delayed PD.

I'm sorry Slash but comments like this aren't really called for, GT Academy is a hell of a lot more exciting, competitive, frustrating, and rewarding then any DLC will ever be... At least to me. I can understand people's frustration, but the announcement of GT Academy is a much more exciting news than DLC.. But this isn't the thread for that dead horse discussion. Just a shame some countries can't participate..

That's why for some it isn't exciting. My country isn't eligible for GT Academy, so for me it's not all that important. Of course, it's one hell of an achievement for the GT series, but as I can't participate I'm in the same boat that those who want the update and DLC.

They could open the competition all over the world, but in those places where there can't be in-track competitions just do a separate ranking and give free DLC or prizes for those.

Everyone should be able to be part of it, as it's so cool and important. I don't want to be a racing driver but hey, let me in!

Unfortunatley I'm ineligable to enter due to age constraints so I have no interest in this what-so-ever.

I can't either, I'm Canadian. But I can still appreciate what it is.

Pardon me, but isn't it a tad late to be doing a marketing exercise on a game that's been out as long as GT5?

This isn't even on GT5. No it's a marketing activity to promote the GT brand. Why else would they release it to everyone rather than just those that own GT5?

I actually participated in a Sony sponsored marketing exercise on GT4 two years after its release. This is nothing new.

Marketing scheme or not, I'm sure we'd all kill to be in any of the four winning graduates shoes right now.

Such a marketing brand this is, to put a GT player in an actual car in an actual race.

Although I have the same chances of winning Academy as I do the Powerball, I still look forward to at least a chance.

What's the worst that could happen?

Thank you PD, Kaz, Sony, Nissan, Jesus, Santa, Tooth Fairy, Mom, Dad, Stephen Hawkings.. thank you for at least a chance.

I think it's pretty cool that they are opening it up to everyone like they did in 2010, personally.

Is that sarcastic? Hard to tell, just curious. Seeing as some countries are excluded, unless you mean "everyone" as in it's open to anyone with a PSN account.

I think he means everyone as in people who don't actually have the game but can compete by downloading the pack off PSN. :)

2010 was the time trial contest which was done in a similar manner.

I will be downloading that, and hoping I do better than I did last year now that I've fully adjusted to using a wheel.

That. No sarcasm intended whatsoever.

It's a miracle!

Okay, now I'm askin for it, lol. On a serious note, I hope this is another indication of getting a new 350/370 GT Academy DLC, or even the cars previous winners have raced in. Yeah, it's another Nissan, but I'll take it.

I like how everyone gets a chance. :D

Also, without trying to build up false hope, perhaps we can see some new features in this demo that will soon be added to GT5.

370Z GT Academy already exists in GT5...

Indeed. Then the GT Academy Cube it is.
