I'm showing some pretty week numbers so far for 8-5. It looks like only 55,000 have showed up world wide and 4,900 for the U.S. Wonder what that means :dunce:

People lost interest? It was always going to happen over two months, the only ones left at the end are the dedicated ones, the other 900,000 are the casuals.

Yeah I just noticed this too, where is every one?

I set a really simple installation lap of like 34 just now finally getting started and I was really surprised to be ranked in the top 500, kind of weird. But I haven't been running any of the previous rounds while they were "live" so maybe the numbers will come to regularity after a couple more days.

Either that, or people are confused by something.

Exactly, if you follow the lessons they teach you in GT liscenses, your instinct is to go right where the cones are, now you have to react to them instead of reacting to the track.

Yeah you feel like you never have the proper line.

I don't know why they can't just get the off track detection right? Granted I don't know that much about track creation but surely all it is is a matter of marking out which parts are legal, which are not? It's not like they haven't had time to perfect it, they've had two months in which they could have tweaked the final challenge to be perfect.

Cones is just a very crude way of achieving it.

Umm, can some one help with why my 8-5 is freezing at the same exact spot? right when i get near the finish line..it freezes.

The freezing thing was happening to people last year as well for some reason. Just some inherit GT5 base issue. I seem to remember something about people with fat PS3's experiencing the problem more frequently.

I'm still in and as dedicated as ever. Putting in all the time I can. I go for about an hour then take a break then back at it again. I may not make it to the top this time around, but it won't be due to a lack of effort, I'll tell you that. Matter of fact, headed back for another session now. Peace and good luck everyone.

Torque buy a can of compressed air and spray all the dust out of your PS3 hopefully this helps!! Good Luck!

Hi Guys, I can't help but feel the competition getting thougher! I can't seem to concentrate I'm usually ahead within my group of Friend's (Skinny DG that means you!) but I'm way under water with this one...Need to clear my head and remind myself the event just started and is not over!

:grumpy:

does anyone else's 8-5 in the menu show a trophy other than gold even though you've golded the event? mine has a silver trophy showing even though i've golded it many times over

I bronzed and then silvered the event on the first night. I tried last night and posted a bronze time. The notification "you've won the bronze trophy" popped up. Even though I'd previously earned it.

Wow... does active steering help. I dropped over a second (to 1:32.4) in like 30 minutes. 1:31.xxx seems much more obtainable now.

I do agree the cones are a bit close in some areas. I end up not pushing all the way on that uphill right hand curve in the middle.

Try loading a different ghost. Some ghost saves in GT5 cause the ps3 troubles for some odd reason.

Not sure I completely agree with AS helping all that much. I switch back and forth, and my times are very similar... Though, my current time was set with AS on, I could easily see my next time being set with it off.

BTW, congrats on your improvement!

Congrats on your current time A7X! A great start to the Academy. Best of luck my fellow GTP'er. (as for the AS debate, A7XMaverick has it turned off and is #1 US)

I'm going to wait until the last day and see if I can gain any time. Until then, just going to watch you guys battle it out. :)

You're up there too man! About 99% sure you are locked in. :)

Thanks Turbo!

Not so sure about being locked in... It is only day 2, and a lot of people are yet to run. The good news is that I have .2 left in the lap that I can see. Hopefully while obtaining that .2, I can find more.:)

Oh, and I saw this morning, after you said you were done for the week at '32 flat.... That you jumped on again to demote my '31.8xx down the friend's leaderboard.:sly:👍 I have a feeling with a few more minutes of seat time, you could easily knock me down again.

I hope they re-instate you guys(top16)for next year. A shame to not get to compete against you. Not that I am complaining

I can't silver this even, I suck horribly.

Watch one of the fast ghosts. Don't race it, just save the replay and watch it. Now race without a ghost but try to copy what you saw in terms of braking points, turn in points and most importantly gears. I was already at a 1:34.5 before I watched the fast guys then after doing so and copying their style I got to a 1:33.2. More than a second just by learning the fastest way through.

But moving the cones back a foot or so wouldn't create corner cutting. They're too close to the track.

They are too close to the track. Heck you could say they're actually on the usable track.

But they're not going to change it now, and it's the same for everybody. Which is better than having the same old problem of people mowing the grass.

I tried for 3 hours last night and only knocked off 2 tenths to get that 31.8. Started to get stressed so I turned it off. Not like it matters anyway, but it's a personal thing. :sly:

You've got a 31.5xx now so not like that mattered. :p

They're working on it. ;)

I'm surprised my time is still good for second. The dentist really did a number on me today and I'm hurting. Hopefully ill quit being a baby and be able to put some laps in tonight after the girlie show I'm forced to watch with the .girlfriend.

Does anyone know how long they plan on keeping this program going? As in GT Academy in general (not this competition period).

If there is going to be a last GT Academy, I hope they announce that, "Hey, this is your last chance for the near future."
