Anyone up for some racing with this round 1 combo?
I'll set-up a room tomorrow around 16:00 GMT

My PS3 struggles to connect to the Internet at the best of times, there's no way I'll be racing others until Australia gets decent Internet. Wish I could though!

As there is a new time trial every 2 weeks, it would be cool if one week the time trial followed the GT Academy time trial, the next week it is then a regular WRS event. Then this alternate pattern happens until the last round of GTA. This would mean people who invest their time in to GT Academy can still benefit from the WRS!

Room open 1472-6118-4259-7712-0104
Edit: looks like nobody wants this now, if you feel like it let me know. Room closed.

Stupid question, is this like other GTA's, meaning this round doesn't matter? Or do we need a good lap here?

I got a 1:03.602 on my first session, I just don't know if I need to bother running more or not...?

I had a quick go and did a 1'0LOLZ - I hate lektrik cars :(

Might give the next raand a go.

I doubt you'll need to run another lap, maybe just run again briefly if you're really worried. I've not seen any indication that there'll be a time requirement beyond hitting gold by the date they've given.

Q. How can I enter?
...snip...
Once you have your PSN ID and access to a PS3™ system with internet access and a copy of the Gran Turismo®6 game, starting at 12:01am PST on Monday, April 21, 2014, you can download and install the GT Academy 2014 online qualification module (“OQM”)
NOTE: There are 4 rounds within the OQM, and you must complete the first 2 rounds of the OQM by 12:01 AM PST on May 19, 2014 to proceed with official registration and to enter the contest. If you do not complete the first 2 rounds by then, you will not be able to register or enter the contest.

"Completing" the first 2 rounds might mean getting bronze or might mean getting gold. Safer to just get gold. :)

Just noticed the thread! :)

I had 3-4 session so far, the part im struggling with is T1, couldnt feel the car enought to know what im doing wrong, but im happy with the rest of my lap, im now waiting for the next round, i dont have enought free time to find the last tenth and t1 can get quit frustrating

1:03.106

Heres my lap if it can be of any help but it look like any other lap...

Nice to see a lot of WRS members on the leaderboard! we need more! 👍

I had another session yesterday trying to get a few tenths and I've discovered that I am a bonafide choker! I was chasing Dan's ghost and any time I could see I was doing okay I would stuff up either Graham Hill or Clearways...if I was no where near the ghost at T1 I would nail them?!? How do you (and anyone for that matter) avoid getting the chokes?

Personaly i dont use my best lap replay or a faster lap done by someone else, when im within a tenth or 2 of what i think will be my best i use a slightly slower lap and stick with it.
:)

Thanks for the tip @mike_gt3. I tried using a slower lap of mine but the same problem happens, if I notice I'm on a good lap I just choke. In the end I decided to keep with Dan's ghost and just ignore the splits and corner map until after the last corner. At least that way I never got distracted by blue splits and so I managed to shave a little off, down to 1'03.878 now. That was the time I wanted at the start of the round so I should be happy but scraping into the top 4000 doesn't feel like enough...now I want a 1'03.7xx :)

Sorry, can't give you advice on nerve control. I have the same issue. It's the same thing that's stopping me from getting faster in the game and in real life. In the game I freak out when I think I might beat my PB, in real life I poop my pants when I get the car sideways a bit.

I used to have to same problem with on line races I would qualify toward the front then at the start of the race My heart would start to race and get all anxious I'd make mistakes and ruin my race and possibly others too same would happen in TT 's.

To get over this I went back to basics on the TT eliminated most of the distractions I turned my ghost off to just show it's line.
I removed the lap times and splits (not seeing these helps a lot)
Not knowing if I'm up or down just allows me to focus on what matters the driving ,brake points , apex speed.

This applies to online races too I don't need to know how far behind or ahead I am just eliminate as much as you can and get to the basics the less info you have to process allows you to stay calm and improve.

Man, what a combo! I only found out about this yesterday, not following the action till summer when the exams end..
Managed a 1:03.613, hopefully I can enter top 1000 sometime

How'd you remove the splits? Only way i can do it, is by removing the entire hud. I ended up just putting a blanket over the top half of the screen. Hillbilly engineering :D

That's what I do remove the HUD I drive cockpit veiw 90% on the time so I still get a rough idea of speedo and revs but the less information I. The screen helps keep me focused

Speaking of driving music. Korn - "Got The Life" is my track of choice when I need to get somewhere fast. It's been tested up to 280km/h.

I *do* love that song, but can't handle music while driving in GT. Always turned it off before doing any driving.

But for real-life driving (or more accurately - public-transit riding), which is never fast because I live in Traffic Hell, USA, I prefer a good mix of hard rock:
  • Hum - Downward is Heavenward, or You'd Prefer an Astronaut
  • Metallica - Master of Puppets
  • Dude York - Dehumanize
  • King Crimson - Anything with Adrian Belew
  • Built to Spill - Every single song

EDIT: Can't forget some Zeppelin, of course. :sly: And I also have a soft spot for U2, too. :p

I'm eligible, but for sure am way too slow, and I don't do online racing. I'm 2.6 seconds behind Doodle, and he's too young.

If I turned on the SuperABS, I might get within 2.3 seconds of him, but that probably would be about 1.5 seconds too slow.

I wholeheartedly endorse "Master of Puppets" as driving music. Throw in "Four Horsemen", and you've got a recipe for a lead foot.

Thanks to my father goading me to beat him I've got the most I can out of Round 3...down to a 2`15.570. Pretty happy with that, had me in about position 1550 when I recorded it.

Ah the pre Icon, pre filthy rich, pre napster, even pre MTV Metallica (One was their first ever video remember?), the memories of an angry childhood!!! Sorry for drifting off topic but couldn't help it
King Crimson show a much more complex and evolved taste Sir Kevin :D

That's Sir Lucas to you! :grumpy::D

I'd be surprised if Kev knew anything about King Crimson. Adrian Belew is my Guitar Hero. :)

EDIT: Also, watch for info in the Playseat Challenge thread about public streams for Monday's race with the 370Z @ Apricot. 👍

Sorry about the mixup. Still getting used to first names around here 👍
