I use paddles on my DFP. The gear changing using this method on the DFP is no different to the controller method of gear changing.
The G25 has a clutch that allows quicker gear changes and is a better method than the DFP and controller.
I believe the top 4 german drivers and the current top 2 drivers in UK & Éire regions are all G25 users.
It's true that the clutch is a big benefit for those drivers (if they choose to use it) but until I get my hands on one I can't say if it's the only benefit they have.
I'll be buying one next week

I haven't used the clutch on my G25 cos you can't feel the bite but I daresay with a bit of practice you'd get the hang of it.
Please don't, it's bad enough trying to beat you without it
They totally screwed the steering with analog stick... When i press it to the Left/Right, the wheels slowly turn into the position... This is "noob" friendly, but it makes it impossible to control the car in tough situation...
@ profi: You should try to but acceleration on R2 and brakes on L2, that made it alot easier for me to control the acceleration.

Profi, how are you keeping so close with the german times through the first part of the lap then finishing some 2 seconds slower? (If I read that correctly) . Even with powershifting (which is possible in real cars) you should not be losing 2 seconds on the straights.
Also, I know it might sound stupid, but I found out I was loosing 1.5 seconds because of it. Are you using full lock (Pushing the left analogue as far left and right as possible) ? My wheel only has 180* of rotation and I found that easing off (so much so that I only really use about 45* max on both sides improves the time and reduces understeer a lot).
I believe I have read here and in another forum that:
- Sphinx doesn't use a clutch (we know this for sure)
- PrudentBear has nowhere to mount his H-box at the minute so doesn't use it.
- Andy_616 is having issues with his clutch/h-box on his G25 so is not using it either.
Sorry if any of the above are incorrect, I'm only going off what I remember.

Unfortunately it's the way things have always been when trying to be competitive in hotlapping. I remember, and I'm sure Mr P (Ron) will back me up on this, that it used to be a nightmare for me trying to compete against the top drivers who used the Momo wheel when using my controller in GT3 events.
It's the same in any highly competitive sport, if you want to compete with the best, then you need the best equipment to do so, because that's what all the best drivers use. Don't get me wrong, they aren't just the best drivers because they use the G25, they are fast even with a DFP or a controller but when one is competitive, one always looks for an advantage and when that advantage is achieved the rest follow suit.

Sphinx already confirmed he does NOT use clutch. I am deeply impressed !
As for the steering: You are right - doing full lock steering makes you slow because the car is heavily understeering. I do not do that, I know about it.

Ah right, ok. I am not sure how else you could make up time, you're obviously far better using a pad with Rwd cars than I ever was. I would suggest getting a cheap 2nd hand steering wheel if you really want to compete.
We're told in most sports that the best equipment does make a difference, for example, look how many millions goes into golf club manufacturing. A single retail driver can now cost ÂŁ300 easily and whilst it may not improve your game that much from the old ÂŁ200 driver you were using (an analogy from moving from a DFP to a G25) it would certainly look and feel better. Compare either of these clubs to using a hickory shaft with a block of wood on the end (the controller) and you'd see a massive improvement moving from one to the other.
It's not so much PD forcing people to buy wheels, it's just that wheels and pedals are easier to control throttle/steering than a stick with a rubber smartie on the end.
I keep reading that it's all part of their "master plan" to get people to buy logitech's new wheel (not you, profi), if this was the case, why would the G25 have an advantage instead of the DFGT they have just released, surely they would have included a "glitch" to allow users of that wheel to have an extra advantage.
Edit: Perhaps you could host your best replay up here and one of the guys using a wheel here could have a look at your time and tell you where you're losing time relative to them? I would have a go, but I'm not sure how quickly I'd be able to get feedback to you.

I think the only chance for me to be competitive is to get a wheel, and thats just what I never wanted to do. I want to sit on my couch with that little controller. And also my wife will never allow such a device...

I've watched the UK replays and nobody is using the clutch to get in the 1'21. Maybe andys new time has, I've not watched it yet but I guess the the top German players are using the clutch. I temporally mounted the shifter and used the clutch, and if you have enabled it properly you should see on the replay every gear change flash with N for Neutral between changes and you are able to rev match while the games drive is disconnected from the engine. If you miss a change, the clutch pedal looses its ability to disconnect from the engine and your left with being able to just move the shifter without pressing the clutch down, but just moving the shifter without engine disconnection and no ability to raise the revs won't benefit around Eiger, and for me at the moment its the same as pad shifting and paddle shifting. Pressing triangle brings back correct clutch operation if you loose it.
If your good enough to rev match and keep it going it will give you an advantage but nobody is doing that yet in the UK top 10 they're doing just plain old GT shifting. Maybe the game should simulate a clutch operation for pad users but then it would be unfair on skilled players. Rev matching the gears and heel toe give advantage in real life, why not the game.

A few laps against Andy's ghost and it dragged me into 5th within 10 minutes on a 1'21.4 đź‘Ť I just throw a tow rope on their bumper and as long as I can hang on it should be an improvement
